Default Donating furniture is a tax write off?

I bought a new bedroom set and a new couch so I'm going to be donating my current furniture to Salvation Army. I've heard this is a tax write off, but I've never written off donations so I'm not exactly sure how it works. Do you have to have original receipts of your furniture in order to deduct it? What amount can be written off - do you guesstimate what the furniture is worth or can you only write off the amount Salvation Army sells it for, I've had this furniture for years so certainly I can't write off the full price I paid due to depreciation?

I feel these are silly questions, but this is all new to me. Does anyone have experience with writing off donations for your taxes?

The Salvation Army will provide you a receipt for tax purposes. It is up to you to assess the value. They also have a receipt form online.

Get a reciept. You can fill in the value. I keep chickens and donate eggs to the food bank all the time.

How would I determine the value? I don't have original receipts and I bought the furniture outright years ago. I could estimate what I *think* it's worth factoring in depreciation and maybe subtracting a few hundred to play it safe w/ the IRS? Or should I write in an estimation of the amount I paid when the furniture was new?
