Default dental implants? should i get them? advice?

My teeth are a never ending nightmare, I have spent a bunch but it seems like my teeth are set on self destructing. I just went to the dentist and found out I need about 10k worth of work done-and this is after I spent 5-6k in the last 2 years. So I am considering getting them all pulled and getting implants instead. From what I have read it costs about 40-50k for full mouth implants and that lasts about 10 years. (so $4,000-5,000 a year). It's somewhat expensive but it would also give me a perfect smile. Something about it scares me....but realistically it seems like the smartest thing to do. Any thoughts or advice?

I have 2 implants, and will need many more later. I plan on doing them as needed so I won't have to do them all over again at the same time. For it is worth they told me they would be good for at least 20 years and with the new type of implants they use they really have no idea how long they can last. The dentist told me it is likely closer to 30 years. I really hated the waiting time before I could put the new crowns on. I am sure we could both trade dental war stories but feel free to ask me any questions.

@kamiliam Did you have them done in the US? Or did you have them done elsewhere?

Yes in the US, 2 teeth and under "anesthesia", insurance was involved so these numbers are a touch skewed and I got crowns in the next billing year due to timing. So I paid around 6.5k for implants, 600 for crowns. Thought about going out of country but there is a wait time for the crown and lots of follow ups. My dentist that I trust wouldn't have felt comfortable okaying an implant from a DR he was not familiar with, and since he would have to deal with it...I didn't travel.

oh whoa 30 years would be awesome. there really isn't much info on them online
did you have allergy testing done? my only fear is my body rejecting them but i heard as long as you get allergy testing for the metal you should be fine.
and also i didn't know you had to wait for crowns?? how long was the wait? where i was reading they replaced all the teeth the same day they were pulled.

I had to wait 3 months to put the crowns on. This was the minimum they would allow. It is done to observe the reaction and the placement of the implant. I did not have allergy testing done. I am guessing that is part of the wait time.

A little background, I got the implants because my crown fell out and when they went to put it back on there was no bone to even attach a rod, this was followed by a second. Implants imo should always be the final step. It should be advised by your dentist and be confirmed by xrays. I am wary of any dentist that would recommend or give the referral for a full mouth. You want to keep the integrity of the mouth as long as possible, sticking implants in your jawline while you have healthy bone does not seem the way to do that. My crowns that are attached to the implants have a special flip and some mcgvering from my dentist so that we should be able to replace the crown on these implants. The ten year number you are getting is because when your crowns fail so will your implant.

The whole process was very hard. I had to wear a retainer during those months. I had a lisp, could not eat and it was a huge worry during my shows. I am grateful for the care and skill of those involved but I am not looking forward to doing it again. The surgery took over an hour for 2 implants, I cannot imagine how even the best periodontist could perform a full mouth in a reasonable amount of time without causing you a ton of trauma. My periodontist did not even touch the crowns, that was left to my dentist.

oh wow ur dentitst or periodontist seems a lot more cautious then what i have found online....nothing i read had any wait time or observing which is why i was scared of failure. but if im going to do all my teeth at once theres no way i can go 3 months with no teeth, i wouldnt want to even go a week...ekkk i wonder if they can give some type of temporary crowns if your getting noticeable/many teeth done?

i havent had a dentist actually recommend full mouth but hes recommended i go with implants instead of root canals/redoing root canals (i had 3 or 4 root canals all have issues eventually- and they were done by different dentists)

the procedures i have been looking at give you 4-6 implants (on both the top and bottom i believe) used to anchor in all the teeth, so it wouldnt actually be that many implants. that seems to be way cheaper than doing each tooth individual.

I'm going to be getting an implant soon. Entire mouth implants sound kinda scary. You should hold on to your teeth as long as possible. If it;s not possible, though, go for it. It will make you feel a lot better!
