Default Having Trouble Getting Hired At Clubs

So thus far in my dancing career I've auditioned at 4 clubs total, and have only been hired at one, my current club. I haven't been doing too well there so I've been trying to get hired at another club with no luck. Auditioned at one WV club, they said they'd let me know, never got a call back. Auditioned at another WV club, they said I was good to go, took a photo of me and said they'd be in touch, never got a call back. Applied/Interviewed at Scores in Baltimore, said they'd call me in a few days to let me know about my schedule and start me on dayshift, never got a call back. I didn't have my hopes too high for Scores since I'm sure they are choosy about who they hire, so I'm not surprised.

But reading posts here make it sound like it's usually not too difficult to change clubs but I can't seem to get in anywhere. What am I doing wrong? I go in to each audition stage ready with my hair and makeup done. I'm 5'1 120lbs. I am not skilled on the pole but I know a few basic spins. Not a great dancer but I'm not totally tragic either. I'm told I have a pretty face and a nice figure. I'm also black and medium-skinned (not very dark but not light either), so I'm sure that limits me in some aspects but I wouldn't think I'd have this much trouble finding a club to hire me.

I live in Western MD so since it looks like Scores isn't going to work out, I'm thinking of going back and re-auditioning at one of the WV clubs that is closer to where I live. Can anyone offer any tips for auditioning again at the same club that turned you down previously?

It may be something to do with being black unfortunately. I don't know about MD or WV clubs specifically but the general consensus is that this industry isn't terribly friendly to black girls. I have worked in clubs where black ladies have to be 9s or 10s in appearance to beat out white girls that are 6s and 7s. It's stupid and unfair.

The only thing you can really do is go in with your outfit on point (pick something that showcases either your ass or boobs, whichever is your major asset, and definitely some nice heels), hair done (I would lean towards straightened if possible) and makeup perfect. Try to go on a different shift; sometimes it's a biased manager that doesn't hire you.
"People jack off with the left hand and point with the right."

"You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave."

Also, in my experience it helps to go in looking like a stripper. Nails, fake lashes, bright lipstick, sparkly eyeshadow, high heels, tight pants/short skirts, short bomber jacket. It's good for them to be able to tell you have a good body before you take your clothes off. Like when you're selling a dance, you want them to have a yes in mind... the more you look like you belong there the more likely they are to say yes. You can show up in sweatpants once you're hired.

Racism is part of it. Which is horrible & shouldn't exist.

Second is confidence. It isn't about pole tricks, but confidence on stage.

You can always apply as a waitress and then eventually on a night when enough dancers didn't show up. Then you can have a shot at being a stripper. Sometimes it is a matter of getting your foot in the door, which is door girl, shot girl, bartender or waitress.

Once in the door, you can ask when it is slow or after it closes if you can practice on the pole for 30 minutes and such.

    From a WOC experience,
Do you have a white dancer friend? Sometimes it can help, sometimes not. It’s a gamble.

Also, what’s your hair like? I’ve always worn long black hair and a nice lingerie outfit at mixed clubs.
When auditioning, choose a different genre of music and tone down the booty popping part. (If you haven’t already) My .02

^^^ my dance partner used to be a 5"10 Haitian girl. We helped each other get hired because she was tall, thin, and exotic looking and I was a curvy blonde, I honestly think we helped each other get into high end places because she had the grace and height that society covets and I had the platinum hair and tan.

I have one, but she lives too far away to audition with me at the clubs closer to my home.

I have always danced with my hair long and straight. Thanks for the advice. I'm going to re-audition at a WV club later today, hopefully I can get in this time.

Hey Elle! I used to work at Scores in Baltimore and can tell you firsthand that they are not WOC-friendly, especially this time of year. Consider it a blessing that you did not get hired on day shift, REALLY! I worked a few day shifts when my customers asked me to come in and the girls there would beg to stay later because they hadn't even made house fee. I would highly recommend Gold Club. It's way more WOC-friendly. PM me if you'd like details!

You are so pretty so it really sucks these clubs are being bogus. I’m a big bootied white girl and have a hard time finding a decent club in chicago because the guys here want the sickly thin eastern european girls with big ol fake titties. The southside clubs in chicago are PERFECT for the black girls. They do the absolute best!
