This is a really excellent article on the psychological effects of working in a slaughterhouse. Really dark stuff.

"Dancing tables, making deals with devils like a drunk beauty queen"
That's horrid.
I assume anytime you are exposed to violence and death for a long period of time, you can end up with mental imbalance like ptsd.
I always wondered if people treat their pet dogs, cats, horses, etc with so much kindness and would never eat them then why would they eat cows, pigs, etc (which could also be somewhat like farm pets)
For the people who do eat animal meat, I wonder is there a less cruel way to do it. Like maybe tranquilize the animal first as opposed to beating it over the head.
IDK.
Honestly I tried a vegan salad the other day and went to a vegan restaurant because of one of your threads I was curious could I stay full with no animal protein. I did stay full. Just not sure if I could do vegan full time but willing to try it more often - and I am a person who used to loathe vegetables growing up. It's a process though.

Never name anything you plan to eat
^ thats an interesting point too.
One of my relatives gave me some eggs from a co-workers farm. For some reason I could not get out of my mind like am I about to eat their pet chickens unborn baby chicks?
It was a weird moment. Something I never thought about before when I would eat grocery store eggs.

Salads are really not a good place to start though. Not enough calories or nutrition in there, really just a side dish. Here are some quick and easy ways to add some delicious non-meat meals:

Legit question...I thought a lot of slaughter houses used stun guns that give fatal electrical zaps instead of the old methods?.....the electrical method is more efficient and cleaner.
I'm all for reform of how farms & factories treat animals. Good thing to mention...some legislators fight the "ag gag" laws.

Oh ok. I may add that the salad came from a farmers market and was labeled 'vegan' and instead of chicken it had chickpeas, cashews, sunflower seeds, broccoli, quinoa, and some other stuff I can't recall everything but it wasn't just lettuce and salad dressing but perhaps youre right because it was not a large entree size salad though
I'll check out those links - thanks for sharing

That would be my worst nightmare to work in a slaughterhouse.
I would get fired for trying to save the animals.
