    Default Getting teeth fixed

My teeth aren’t horrible, but I drink coffee. I haven’t been to the dentist for awhile. I just have weak teeth? I brush them, floss them, but somehow my teeth look like shit.

Anyways how do I get them fixed on a budget? The dental school seems to be the same price as a regular dentist. Most of it is cosmetic, so I don’t see the point in getting dental insurance because they won’t pay for most of it.

Has anyone tried smile direct club?

I agree the dental school is as expensive as a dentist here too! What do you need to do? Are they stained, crooked, broken...all three?

You may still want to consider dental insurance. It's fairly inexpensive. You never know what could end up being covered, thus reducing your bill.

As far as whitening goes, I swear by those crest white strips.

And cut down on coffee or I know this sounds weird but drink it through a straw so it doesn't get on your teeth

I dunno my white fillings are stained. I don’t think they were done right. My teeth aren’t straight either. I might have to start drinking coffee through a straw after they are fixed.

Eat dairy products. My teeth have had thin enamel before but after years of good nutrition they're much better.

,I eat cheese but I stay far away from cows milk. It's not the nutrition bc even in years past when I ate meat and dairy my teet oh were shit. Its just bad genes . There's an old saying that you lose a tooth each pregnancy and I have. Lol back molars of course, but it literally sucks the life out of your teeth just by being pregnant, not even adding the vomiting into it, but that also contributed to it.i wish I could be gifted 10k just to put into my smile

You really just need the calcium and you can get that from non-dairy sources such as nut milks (almond, cashew, etc), broccoli, and other drinks/foods. But if you are a fan of dairy then carry on......

Sad confession...I drank a lot of diet Coke in my early 20s & that was the main offender in thinning my enamel.

Someone said raw milk is great for healing teeth. It's worth checking out.

Removing refined sugar/carbs, cofffee too. those things are washing out minerals from your bones. Bones are made of collagen and calcium etc. Bone broth is good or you can buy gelatin and make some jellos, you need also calcium which can be used by your body. Such calcium is in egg shells(check online how to make calcium from an eggshell)spinach high in calcium.
You can drink milk, but you need right kind of milk. You need a raw and unpasteurized, hard to find that kind of milk. you can check online https://www.realmilk.com/real-milk-finder/
    https://www.amazon.com/Essential-Oxy...s=Oxygen+rinse
I love this rinse. its natural and gently whitening.
I tried this kit and I lovee it https://www.amazon.com/Remineralizat...5461190&sr=8-3

You can also take some sea weed they are full of traceminerals and vits https://www.amazon.com/Rahimaliorgan...rds=Dulse&th=1

Im bumping this in case there is any new advice. I was a pretty heavy red wine drinker and my teeth are less then brilliantly white. I cant really drink it anymore, I get sick, also Im trying to get preggo so Now is the time to do my teeth if Im gonna do them. Who has done professional whitening? Who has done full porcelain? I was thinking to have mine whitened BUT my front 4 teeth are all heavily covered in caps (same stuff they use to make fillings, Had it put on to fill in my enormous gaps when I was 14) So those dont bleach out and I cannot use things like whitening strips on them.

I feel like maybe my best bet is the porcelain but my problem is my dentist only speaks Spanish and mine is pretty good but not so great for medical questions and answers and Im worried about how much they destroy the tooth to put them in. How long they last and if you have had it done would you do it again??? Was it worth it?

Good news- I've noticed "dentist in a box" offices are popping up all over the States (they are a more corporate dental service than traditional "family" dentists that grow practices.) These places often offer in-house financing & competitive rates.

Also if possible you can do "medical tourism" for dental work and go to Mexico or Thailand.

& My "Google University" research has led me to believe that raw milk, and ample calcium/nutrition in the diet can help repair some wear and tear on teeth.

(Side note- don't smoke or chew tobacco. These products DO take a toll on the teeth and gums. Not really worth it.)

You should think about purchasing appropriate care products for your teeth. Do not buy cheap toothpaste because it can cause some damage. Also, you should know that toothpaste should be changed every month so do not use the same one! A brush should be good too. Here is the I use. It's made from organic materials only. The plastic which ordinary brushes are made of can bring harm to your teeth.

    I have decent dental insurance..
It's only like a few $ more than Delta, which sucks.
There's no waiting period for crowns, & each year you have it, the benefits increase, capping at 3 years or so.

Spirit Dental, they go by another name too.

When I had my 2 root canals/crowns done (had 2 very bad cavaties UNDER previous crowns) 4 yrs ago I didn't have any dental ins @ all..
My dentist recommended me to an endodontist, because I needed a specialist to do the root canals.
He agreed to payments, I did give him a $300.00 down payment tho.
I made monthly payments regularly to both dentist & endo.
Ended up being like 5k total.

For whitening, I use a rinse, I use Rembrandt brand.
The strips bother me, my teeth are sensitive.

I have a special floss holder, it looks like a fork w/o tines, I use thin plastic toothpicks w/tiny bristles on one end, flouride rinse, etc.
    Not going thru that again.

You may want to consider veneers or Lumineers. My teeth are trash too, but mostly from severe childhood neglect to the point that my caretakers should be in jail for it (but the world isn't fair, so they're living a beautiful life instead). Personally, I wouldn't bother with US dentists unless you are going for cleanings, emergencies and maybe a few fillings. In retrospect, I'm pretty sure I've been scammed more than once or twice with recommendation of unnecessary work by money-hungry dentists in the US. One time, I even demanded my money back bc the guy was so incompetent, he really hurt me in the process of doing major work that I'm pretty sure I did not need. Dentists in the US like to recommend the redoing of major work to line their pockets, even if it does not need redoing. Dental school can be an option but remember you are paying to sign up to be a guinea pig. One of my most painful fillings was from a dental school bc this girl was completely incompetent. It took 3 hours and cost me about $150, 10 years ago in the midwest! Going abroad is an option but it's very tricky to find a good and trustworthy dental professional abroad. If you do that route, check to see if the doctor did any legitimate training in the US, if the doctor is a member of any US-based professional associations, the clinic/hospital is accredited by a US-based agency that oversees quality of hospitals abroad, etc. Some doctors abroad are extremely impressive with the level of language ability they have to see patients from all over the world, their training and equipment, but then there are a lot of quacks too who will take advantage of you just bc they can. I went to a place in Lima, where I was extremely impressed. My time in Tijuana, I was hugely disappointed and the work I had done in Rosarito, probably needs to be redone. Hopefully, all of Mexico isn't like that, if you avoid the border towns, and go further in. Not sure if they did everything ok but it was the quickest, least painful and most thorough cleaning I received, and then they did porcelain inlays instead of fillings. Keep shopping around. If you decide to do it here, remember you can get botched too and it might cost you a lot for cosmetic work. Dental insurance usually covers up to $1000-1500/yr, so it's probably only good for emergencies, if something is really really hurting and regular cleanings but nothing substantial.

For teeth whitening... every week, i brush my teeth with activated charcoal. I bought a container of it for $25 that will last me an eon. I used to buy white strips. I just dip my wet toothbrush into a little container of charcoal, put my toothpaste on top, brush for a couple of minutes, done. This works for the weekly buildup of surface stains, IME. Not sure about deeper stains.

This is the one i bought, but anything would work:

Have you heard of oil pulling? Gargling with Coconut oil for 15-20 minutes a day can do wonders for your teeth and gums. You should research it!

Guys, if she needs actual dental care, no amount of charcoal or coconut oil or whatever else mentioned above, is gonna do it.

There is dentaldepartures.com for cheap dental treatment abroad. There is Scots Cheap Flights or priceline if you need to fly out there.

The price of dental treatment in the US, as well as the cost of medical care, is criminal. I've done a lot of my dental work here, some good and some needed to be redone. However, I've also had some treatment abroad, not all good. There are bad dentists here too. A lot of the work may need to be redone later, maybe bc the new dentist is lying to you to get a quick couple grand or more from you, or maybe bc what you had done before by a US dentist wasn't as up to par as you'd expect. The severity of what can go wrong, however, is much greater in a foreign country, so be sure to do your research.

Just do your research. Maybe you'd benefit from Lumineers.

I plan on going to Tijuana for all crowns on my teeth when I save up for it. Doesn't show physically, but insurance won't cover my needs at all. My teeth have always been shit as a kid because of crappy fast food/sugar, bad eating habits etc and then when I started the booze I was told I needed crowns on all my teeth by the dentist. Cheaper to go abroad for dental care. Insurance doesn't cover much in the teeth department USA-wise which is surprising.

Many people consider that as an option to save money because USA is ridiculous price-wise. Just do your research.
