    Default Nail Tech or Esthetician?

I知 planning on starting beauty school next month and I知 deciding whether I should go for nails or skin care. Does anyone have a background in either of these professions? Which one is the more practical choice? I hear that Estheticians have a hard time finding steady, consistent work although they pay better than nail techs. But I hear nail techs usually have more steady and consistent work and there are more nail tech jobs at salons and day spas then there are Estheticians. I知 leaning more towards the nail program because it痴 shorter and cheaper to complete. Any advice would be appreciated, thanks!

I personally don't have experience with any.... I have a cousin who is a certified nail tech and works at her home, and she is always booked. Never has time for new clients. Def put your work out there. She has a big following on Instagram.

I don't have experience but I'd look at your area market. I'd imagine that nail techs have more business, but also more competition. Wouldn't people go to a dermatologist for skin?

I did nails for several years and I swear my respiratory problems are a result of all the chemicals I use to inhale at the shop. Even with a mask on it was still pretty bad. Also you get arthritis in your fingers from gripping other peoples hands all day. Its hard work. Maybe you can get certified as a nail tech and then use that money to go back for esthetician?

I'd vote for esthetician because skin seems to be "hot"...Back in the day the trend was covering up skin problems but now with new treatments available people can have much nicer looking skin.

As much as I’d enjoy doing skin care, I think the most practical thing for me right now is to do the nail program. It’s cheaper, easier to get work, and the program is shorter. Plus as someone suggested, I could get a job doing nails and use that to pay for my esthetics program later down the road. Thanks for the input so far!

Nail tech. I love skin, but if I’m paying then I’m going to a Dermatologist..but you could do spas I guess?

With nails a lot of the run-o-the-mill nail places are operated by families so definitely go out on your own, and if you offer something really new and you’re talented with painting designs and 3D (advertising on social media obv) you should be good
