For me, it depends on how fancy or complicated I want to make the date. I'm a planner. It's what I do for a job, and I actually enjoy it as well. So, I have date ideas out through August already. Nothing confirmed, just ideas. Some of them will be surprised at the last minute, others I'll give more notice. Typically though, it's about a week notice.

I used to me more free ( was ok with just a day or two notice ). I'm in a relationship now but if I was single Id want 5-7 days planned ahead! My BF ( we have been together for years ) knows my preference too and he's actually really good at " putting things on the calendar " 5-14 days ahead! I remember when we first met I was really impressed with his planning / quick decision making .
The main reason is that I'm in sales for my day job and if I don't schedule my own time, the clients will take all of it !
I have shifted from a very free spirit to liking things pretty organized in the last 4-5 years.
I think it's a respect thing too. It seemed strange and flighty to get together short notice.
I need at least 24 hours notice. I hate when guys try to make last minute plans. I feel like it's inconsiderate because I have to find a babysitter and that's not always easy to do last minute.
