Default Do you request each stage song or do you let your DJ take over and play whatever?

Where I work it’s mainly rap/hip hop/pop and I am more of a rock dancer. Just wondering if you guys request each song you want for stage that night or if you just give free reign to your DJ, knowing they may not play your favorite genre but more what the customers will like?

It depends on the club I'm at. If I'm working with a dj who I know picks good music sometimes I'll let them just play whatever for me, but most djs I've worked with ask you to pick songs.

I have a list of songs. If they deviate from it, I ask them why.

I like stage and it really annoys me to be up there for a song I don't like. If I have to tip them out $15 - 40 a night, they better play what I request.

I just request genre. My goal is to avoid stage sets, since I want to stack dances or get into VIP.

Depending on the club, you either have to bribe the DJ to keep you off stage, OR get signed off stages by a VIP host.

I've always worked in clubs with 50+ girls on each shift, and even clubs with 200+ girls on nightshift. You can choose the genre you like and the DJ will generally try to accommodate, but if you came prepared with a list you'd probably be told to fuck off unless you were tipping generously. I would love to have a list of specific songs, but I've never worked in a club where they would be receptive to that idea, nor has the music meant enough for me to shell out the cash.

Where I'm at I pick my songs...sometimes the DJ will play a song for me that is up my alley and sometimes I'll come down and say wtf if you play French Montana for me again I'm going to sit down. I love being able to pick my songs but can only do that when I'm on the main stage.... if I'm on a satellite stage dancing to someone else's music I usually do half as much...

LOL if a DJ told me to fuck off for doing a thing that makes his job easier, I wouldn't work there.

Only if you generously tip. And it's not worth it to me. Plus I want them to play for the crowd and what they think the customer base wants

i used to care but eventually decided i'd rather tip the bare minimum than request songs all the time. not a fan of feeling obligated to give more of my money to some fucker just for scrolling a little further and pushing an extra button for me.

i don't do pole tricks and kinda hate stage anyways so it's whatever- i do enjoy it when i happen to end up dancing to a fun song but i mostly feed off the crowd's energy rather than the song itself. i can have fun to pretty much anything if the mood strikes me

I have a list of songs and I'm extremely fortunate that my DJ's know me well enough to play what I like and still cater to the crowd. You won't see them blasting Dimmu Borgir for a Sunday afternoon crowd of Pervert McGreyballs.

    LOL yes

So many girls seem to just dance to songs THEY like, without thought to the crowd or if it's even strip club appropriate. Like don't dance to unsexy stuff, songs about being a good dad (???), etc

For new DJs that I don't know, I usually pull a "well, I like this genre (insert some band names), but *you* know how to cater to a crowd, so definitely I trust your judgement" and bat my eyelashes. Then I follow up with a "good boy" at the end of the night when they played the shit I asked them to and they thought it was their idea. "I reeeeeeeeally loved that you played me (insert band names I already said). Thanks!" And tip them a few dollars extra with that. Just like customers, I generally assume they want their ego stroked by any means necessary.

Sometimes that type of cajoling lasts forever. But mostly they end up being decent and I can get more specific as time goes on, and being direct, and not waste time. Depends on the person, depends on the club.

I feel as if I have to like what I'm dancing to, but at the same time I would also pick out songs that would be danceable or fit a club scene and have sensual or fun lyrics. It doesn't seem sexy or appropriate to dance to songs about gang stuff, drug dealing, or some other dark serious topics.

This is my dilemma currently. My club always plays rap/hip hop and I’m just like “how do guys NOT think Iron Maiden and NIN is sexy??”

80s hair metal is almost always a universally safe bet.

Yeah. Once I worked a shift with a new DJ who was playing the most random outdated songs. He put "Crack a bottle" by Eminem during one of my sets. A very comical unsexy song. I was embarrassed the whole time and I don't feel like I put on a good show. Enjoying the song is important.
