    Default Knees!

Has any dancers dealt with knee pain/bumps on your lower knee/upper shin? I’ve been dancing since November, but have realized that there’s a bump on my knee that just isn’t normal. I can’t do with surgery, as it’s season right now in Florida where I’m at..so surgery would be detrimental to me as of right now..I’ll post a photo of what I mean on my knee..DD1BD0D6-B9AC-4F39-B820-57C02F625321.jpg

Sorry about your knees. I would just go get a doctor to look at the knee, shouldn't be too much money for a checkup. Meanwhile, limit or avoid floor work.

Definitely get to the doctor. I have permanent damage from years of dancing, heels and running (both knees and lower back.)

I do wish I could limit floor work, but that’s how I make money on stage. I’m not good on the pole
I’m going to see a doctor soon though!

Try icing it. Also, anti-inflammatories might help. Ibuprofen is a good one.

There is some floor work you can do that is off your knees like twerking while standing or just some of the stand in place dancing that moves your hips. Also a few floor work moves I know are not on the knees.

Otherwise I know I sound douchey, but learn some pole work to stay off the floor more often. That's the only reason I learned pole tricks-to save my knees. Also, pole is super easy. Like I've never taken a class and rarely ever practice or try and learn new moves and can do quite a bit when I'm not feeling lazy. It is a lot easier than it looks, in my opinion.

I take a blanket to work and do floor work on it on my back to save my poor knees.

I have had the exact same bumps. Don't waste your money at the doc just yet. It's tissue swelling and callous formation due to floor work, that's all. Mine go away when I take long breaks from dancing, and return when I start again if I am not careful.

If you MUST do knee-grind moves, put tons more pressure in your hands or anywhere else to take some pressure off the knees. I also found some low- profile knee pads that I now wear u der thigh high black velvet stockings with black knee high boots. The black color helps disguise the knee pads. If you want to keep doing this, you need to find a way to take it easy on your knees.

Seconding the knee pad suggestion! They really help. You can also wear black knee pads and pull them down to your ankles when you aren't dancing on stage--that makes them look sort of like ankle boots.

I have leg warmers but I’m climbing the pole, so they hinder me from climbing.
I’m trying to learn more pole work now though.

Take omega3 supplements if you aren't already.
