Default The number of Strip Clubs declining drastically overtime?

I periodically check the news for articles related to strippers or strip clubs just for curiosity and I noticed for a fairly long time that there are always a number of articles about strip club xyz closing due to illegal activity, groups wanted to "clean" areas up or clubs simply going out of business for one reason or another. While new clubs do occasionally open up, it seems to be far harder to get the adult licensing needed to open up a new club from scratch. For this reason, it seems the number of clubs around seem to be far less from what it would have been a decade or two ago. What are your thoughts? The area I grew up in and the area I started dancing in, for example has seen several closures over the last handful of years.

Countless threads on here have talked about how the industry has been changing and seems to be fairly less lucrative due to prevalence of porn, dancing becoming more mainstream and dance prices staying generally the same despite inflation, among other reasons. While all these reasons are absolutely true, I'm curious to see if fewer clubs around have hurt your options or business.

Just some thoughts, thanks for your insight.

It's a mix of the economy PLUS political pressure/gentrification.

Several strip bars I have worked at in the past 2 decades have closed for good. Some were a case of a bar running through its life cycle very quickly, others the owner just retired/sold the place, and in one case, a BS lawsuit having to do with Dram Laws and nothing at all to do with the dancers.

The 2008 Great Recession hurt lots of people. Not just bars, not just rich people. Any business relying on "disposable income" spending really struggled after 2001 and 2008.

Thanks for your insight - it is kind of depressing for someone "restarting"

In the last three years, my area (New Orleans) has gone from around 22 to around 14 clubs. They closed mostly due to a financially devastating series of raids that were utter BS. That's a lot of closed doors and a lot of people out of work.

One club in my city has closed due to really bad club oversight and no advertising. Two more are rumored to be closing due to lack of business because they made some very bad choices in regard to preferred clientele. Two more are going to have the living crap raided out of them this summer, although they're used to it and probably won't close because of it.

I like my club, but I'll be happy to retire.

I think people are less wanting to socialize today. People are used to the internet and texting and everything so personal communication most people suck at it and don’t enjoy it was much. I think a lot of guys don’t want to go out and interact and rather just stay home and cam or use the internet. Same with shopping. Look at the all stores going out of biz. Same with like sports too. I went to a NASCAR race w a client and it was seriously empty. I think football has the same probs. So I’d say it’s cultural.

^ That sounds about right. I have been hearing quite a variety of businesses have slowed down, but do not have any hard facts.

^ It's a sign of the times. I've noticed that over the last few years myself with malls, strip clubs, reg night clubs, etc. Kinda scary what it will be like in 10 years.
