I was told to tell sketchy guys in New Orleans I already had a pimp so they would leave me alone.

Source? Curious what data they factored in to make this list.

New Orleans is sketchy as fuck. I love it, but it is exhausting looking over your shoulder all the time and the street harassment is some of the worst i have encountered worldwide. Most of my close female friends have been severely sexually assaulted in NOLA.
The best thing i have heard in a strip club to date:
customer: we should get married right now! we should get a shotgun marriage!
me: uhh... i think you are misunderstanding what a shotgun marriage means. A shotgun marriage means you knock me up and my daddy shows up at your door with a gun and forces you to marry me and raise the baby. You mean elope.
customer: hmm... nah actually i will take the shotgun marriage. At least then we would be having sex.

^^^ oh my gosh. I’m so sorry. My friend paid the cab driver $50 tip to make sure I made it in the hotel room before leaving.

What I'm seeing on the safest cities list is that those cities have rapid access to police services.

I'll add to this later. I have friends who live in some of the "unsafe" cities and TBH in those places it matters where you go and with whom......

Miami???! I got the most harrassment in my life in Miami, the short period I was there.

NYC has a bunch of creeps too. Even the cops harrass women.

Yea, where'd you get that list..

NO place's safe for women, unfortunately.

Maybe some tiny town made up of elders, & then there'd be some serial killer, so that blows that outta the water

Pittsburgh? I hear terrible things about it, & others on that 'safe' list

Miami? I live here and from my own experiences, I'd beg to differ. I live in a safe, suburban part of the city. A few years ago someone jumped my fence, stacked up bricks against my house and was looking in my window. I caught them and called the police. It took an hour for them to show up. My neighbor found the guy, confronted him and he said he was "peeing" and he stacked the bricks because he "didn't want to get his feet wet". Oh, so you jumped my fence, stacked bricks against my wall, and positioned yourself to look in my window ...so you could pee? God only know what the person intended to do - I am sure he was just a perv, but the police didn't seem to take it seriously.

A few months ago at the gas station, a drunk/drugged up man approached me begging for money. I told him I had no cash several times. He waited by my car as I went into the store and the clerk had to call the police, as I was not going back to my car with him there. Broad daylight.

One of my friends finally moved out of Miami when she was followed home from the grocery store with her baby in the car and robbed at gunpoint for her Rolex. Again, broad daylight. Safe, quiet neighborhood.

Hell, last week there was a sketchy car that I KNOW was following me because he was blatantly obvious. I started changing lanes, quite erratically, weaving in and out of traffic once I caught on to him and sure enough he kept up. I did a u-turn and he followed. By the second u-turn he must have caught on to the fact that I knew, and he stopped following me. Granted I drive a luxury car and it's very flashy. Maybe if I had a Honda Civic I wouldn't encounter those issues.

I'm constantly on high alert and I have a license to carry a concealed weapon so I am always armed. Laws permitting, I think this is a good idea for anyone but the fear I feel here is unlike anywhere else I've been.

Oh, God. I've had some of those things happen to me where I grew up in California. Peeping Toms and crackheads always have the most entertaining stories to explain away their attempts at burglary, mugging or rape.

I *sometimes* carry my gun with my in my car if I'm going somewhere I think I need it. I have zero trust of hill billy dudes where I live.

I think OP's list goes off of reported crimes stats from logged police reports.

Yeah, I really do not know who would vote for Sacramento or Riverside as safest for women but okay. Let's just say, I would not be caught dead working around Riverside at night. In fact, most of Riverside country sucks overall for women unless you like that type of urban decay. Plus, Riverside is near that hellhole called Corona and I would avoid that place like the plague. Sacramento's suburbs are great but downtown Sacramento at night is a bit creepy too me.

Funny trivia about Sacramento- in the 1980s-90s the cops would joke about Discovery Park being a place to "discover" dead bodies because dying transients and murder victims were often found there.

& Yeah parts of Southern California are very very dangerous at night. Just Carnivornia as usual.

Sacramento was the area the 'Golden State Killer' operated in, 70's thru 80's..they just recently finally caught him..
He raped like 50 women, & murdered approximately 12 (some men too).
I read an article about a man & his girlfriend, he broke in their place, tied up the man, raped his girl, & left.
They can't prosecute for that particular thing, since the statue of limitations has run out.

Home invasions, robbery, rape and murder via gunshot are very common crimes in the larger San Francisco Bay area. I have relatives in SF & we have the most morbid jokes about how and where people get killed in the City. NOT ha ha jokes, more like "Don't go over there after midnight, cabron!"

Re- crime states in large metro areas like Chicago- it's hard to break down stats if you can't distinguish between neighborhoods and "bad suburb/good suburb." I'm sure reddit has some more useful charts for explaining some of the local crime issues from neighborhood to neighborhood by city.

I was lucky enough to know a couple career cops back in Northern California- cops in high crime areas tend to have an attitude of "I know what I'm looking at here." Some cops profile because it's relevant to their "beat." & Some cops are not seasoned enough to make the right judgement calls in some neighborhoods.

I'm surprised to see Miami on there. I know damn well Miami isn't that safe. I had a scary experience. Sacramento isn't either for that matter, unless it's during the day. Scary experience there too. You do not want to be a woman alone at night there. Then again you don't want to be a woman alone at night in any state. I felt somewhat safest alone at night in the bible belt but bad stuff can happen out there too, especially in rural areas where nobody is around for miles. As a woman you have to keep your guard up everywhere.

    Ugh so true.

From my personal experiences I feel it's most unsafe where a guy (or two) can get a woman isolated, OR force her into a vehicle. There's a high profile kidnapping/murder case that happened in a rural Canadian province where the Law knows how the victim got to where they found her remains but they can't arrest the suspect (yet.)

Ironically I have had people look out for me in crowded cities (Minneapolis, Denver) but in the country....you are on your own. & I know better than to believe all the "sunshine and smiles" talk of the American farm towns. My friend is a former sheriff out here & he explained to me how assault and rape happens in small town areas. The perps are always very conniving and very good at covering tracks.

I don't agree with this list, especially since whomever compiled this list left out Anchorage and Fairbanks Alaska since those cities in Alaska are one of the top cities that are the most dangerous for women.

That said, I have a friend whose sister is a cop. My friends sister who is a cop told me she didn't travel/live anywhere where she can't legally carry her concealed firearm. I agree with her.

certain areas are worse than most...Lawndale, Austin, Englewood. that is where the overwhelming majority of murder/gun violence occurs. Downtown, River North, Wrigleyville, Lincoln Park are about as safe as you can get in a big city.

I would walk around downtown at 2AM without much concern......i wouldnt walk in Austin at anytime of day...ever.

***sorry, just saw the title was most safe cities for WOMEN...should probably be looking at different crimes, but i imagine the results are similar.
