Default What are the red flags of a club going downhill

I’ve almost always gotten out before a club tanked completely. I was just curious if anyone else has some wisdom.

2 of the dozens? of clubs that I have danced at ever (with the exception of Gold Rush becoming E11ven) closed for business. One was a really, really shitty hole in the wall place. I think it was closed beause the buildinmg was deemed too hazardous. It was so bad I can't even properly explain. There were no proper place for dances, just some chairs like you would find in a church hall off to the side and you had to bring your own music (on CD's!) and set it up for your stage set.

The other place, there have been several different clubs in the same building over the years. The place is absolutely gorgeous inside and out and it off the main throrougfare so you would think it would do well but it never does. I would say this is a red flag. Changing names/ownership many times in a short span of time. The club was hardly ever busy either.

    * Overt signs that the owners/management are heavily on drugs, or dealing them.

    * Shootings and stabbings happening on premises

    * Serious conflict between co-owners (divorce, disagreements, bankruptcy, fatal violence.)

    * Lowered hiring standards (TBH this varies regionally)

    - Running alcohol/food promotions, outside of a happy hour, is usually a bad sign.

    - Advertising of any form, honestly. It may just be coincidence but all the clubs that are good to work at here, I've never heard/seen them advertise. The ones that are iffy or downright suck have radio ads and billboards.

    Excessive advertisement. ^^^

Lol...yeah one of the worst clubs in town advertises all the time. The owner being a narcissistic doesn’t see he’s the problem and no amount of throwing money at the problem will fix his poor management.

    Some good stuff mentioned here.

Also ime- getting rid of staff... I.e. suddenly only one bouncer, used to have a vip host but now you just grab a bouncer/manager, things like that.

Oh, I got a good one!

I was paid out for a half hour in $1s and $5s... because the manager had had to pay for the liquor order out of the cash drawer.... because last week the club's check bounced & the liquor distributor will now only accept cash from them.

I've known the manager for years, but I can't believe he told me that...

    ^^

    Ahhhh that is terrifying

At one shit club I danced at for a bit they were so behind on stuff their phone and internet got cut off... this meant it was cash only because no way to run debit/credit cards which killed large sales. And obviously people calling in to check who is working, can you take a 15 guy bachelor party tonight, that kinda thing meant those customers just didn't show up.

Also stage pay is normal here, and they couldn't afford to pay girls for going on stage so girls would refuse shows and they couldn't force girls to do them or girls would quit... so unless you were willing to pay a girl as a customer to go on stage, no shows.

I left years ago and I am shocked they are still open.
