Default Looking for a roommate in Rhode Island, hotel or apartment?

Hello ladies, I'll be moving soon so am in search of a new place to live in Rhode Island. (As close to Woonsocket as possible.) With either WIFI included or cable ready, as I need Internet access. Can anyone recommend any decent hotels or apartments?

If I was to get a roommate, I'd prefer it to be with someone that had similar interests, and possibly even practice and do shows together with.

I like the idea of staying at a hotel so I'm free to travel or move at anytime, but even the lowest priced ones are still thousands of dollars more a month than if I was willing to sign a 12 month lease for an apartment. So I'm not sure what to do in this situation. I know a lot of apartment places also discriminate against people based on their profession or want people with a standard job so that they have a steady, dependable income. So even if I applied for an apartment I might still not be approved.

I am not sure if you are moving from another part of New England or not but Woonsocket is pretty cheap. You are probably not going to have an easy time finding roomates on here because you are new. Maybe try CL

Thanks. I found a couple apartments that I'm wanting to checkout, I'm uncertain as to how to respond on the applications that ask a lot of personal questions, including what I do for a profession (what hours I work) how much I make a week, my martial status, where I currently moved from and why etc. A guy (that said he got rid of his retailer) told me he moved for a job (so is renting his house out) but if I filled out an application and was selected he'd mail me the keys and that I could move right in. I told him I would only sign contracts in person and that being after I was able to see inside the place to see if I wanted to move there or not.

Do not pay the deposit. That is a scam. It's very common. They all do this... you pay the deposit, you fill out an app with personal info, they say they'll mail the keys without showing (which is a no no) and you never here from them. I can't tell you how many times this has turned out to be the situation for me here in FL. I think 7 out of 10 apartments I will contact about on CL are scam responses similar to that. This is why I stick to corporate rental companies or realtors.

And do not listen to their explanation of why they're doing this this way! They are wannabe master manipulators and will try to give you a sob story about why they're out of town or say something like you are wasting my time bla bla. The last one I talked to was clearly calling from another country from a device or computer with terriblllleee reception and weird phrases that were out of context. LOL

Try to find a realtor who has some properties for lease. In my experience, they will work really hard to get the property rented cause they're being paid by the owner. Think of it like a headhunter. Or stick to corporate rental companies that own buildings... Rhode Island doesn't have a ton of spots like that but it will make it easier for you since they'll have multiple locations and units.

Do you have a car? You might find something cheap on Ma/RI border especially in Fall River.

Closing thread... looking for a roommate on a forum like this one is not safe.

Best of luck to you, OP.
