    Question Alternatives to cow milk/dairy

I've been gleefully using coconut milk instead of cow milk but the calories are adding up.

I reluctanly switched to soy but don't like it (soy can affect hormones.)

    Got any other ideas? Thanks....

    I would suggest almond milk.

Almond milk all the way! I buy the unsweetened kind. But sometimes I may add honey or agave, its still less calories than buying vanilla almond milk. Rice milk is tasty but it has a ton carbs in it.

I'm going to try making my own almond milk at home since buying it per half gallon can be pricey.

    I'll share my results.

Ooh, this is right up my alley. I've dealt with lactose intolerance ever since I was a baby. There is also rice milk, almond milk, cashew milk, and hemp milk. I like that there's so many options now. Growing up all there was was soy and rice milk. Soy milk isn't really a good option because of the hormone issue and how it can affect your estrogen receptors. Soy milk can benefit women who are in menopause or post menopausal.

Pea Protein Milk is very delicious. I choose pea protein milk over all the other milk alternatives because I have a diet that is high in plant proteins. This type of diet is beneficial in maintaining/developing lean muscle mass which is great for body building and for fat loss. I really like the brand "Ripple". I usually buy it at Sprouts, Whole Foods, or Publix. Here is a link to their website https://www.ripplefoods.com .

Almond milk is a good option if you're watching calories. Silk unsweetened original almond milk (the light version) only has 30 cals per cup. But they make so many different types of non-dairy milks you'll never run out of options: rice, cashew, hazelnut, hemp, oat, flax, etc., and that's just off the top of my head. You can also buy whole nuts and seeds of your choice and experiment with making non-dairy milks at home. It's really easy to do. You just need water, a blender, cheesecloth or similar strainer, and your nuts of choice.

    Hi PGD,

I have issues with the lactose in milk. So I do not consume milk. I have never tried any yogurt alternatives. When bacteria is present in yogurt it makes it easier to tolerate the lactose. When I want to consume yogurt, I consume whole milk greek yogurt with live active cultures.

If you read my post I was recommending Ripples milk alternative NOT their yogurt alternative. I have tried Ripples Pea Protein Milk in the Sweetened Vanilla and Sweetened Chocolate. I've never tried their yogurt alternative and because of my specific issues with JUST lactose I never would try ANY yogurt alternative.

    Altho I don't do well w/dairy, I eat a lot of Trader Joe's Organic Plain Whole Milk w/Cream yogurt..delicious & doesn't bother me!
    I eat it w/fresh blueberries
as far as alt milk, I don't currently use a lot (coconut creamer for coffee, sometimes use in cereal too)
I used to use a lot of unsweetened rice milk
