Default EU Copyright laws will affect Content Creators

Just stumbled on this and thought it was something we should know about, so I'm sharing:

    1. Article 13: the Copyright Filters. All but the smallest platforms will have to defensively adopt copyright filters that examine everything you post and censor anything judged to be a copyright infringement.

    2. Article 11: Linking to the news using more than one word from the article is prohibited unless you're using a service that bought a license from the news site you want to link to. News sites can charge anything they want for the right to quote them or refuse to sell altogether, effectively giving them the right to choose who can criticise them. Member states are permitted, but not required, to create exceptions and limitations to reduce the harm done by this new right.

    3. Article 12a: No posting your own photos or videos of sports matches. Only the "organisers" of sports matches will have the right to publicly post any kind of record of the match. No posting your selfies, or short videos of exciting plays. You are the audience, your job is to sit where you're told, passively watch the game and go home.

At the same time, the EU rejected even the most modest proposals to make copyright suited to the twenty-first century:

    1. No "freedom of panorama." When we take photos or videos in public spaces, we're apt to incidentally capture copyrighted works: from stock art in ads on the sides of buses to t-shirts worn by protestors, to building facades claimed by architects as their copyright. The EU rejected a proposal that would make it legal Europe-wide to photograph street scenes without worrying about infringing the copyright of objects in the background.

    2. No "user-generated content" exemption, which would have made EU states carve out an exception to copyright for using excerpts from works for "criticism, review, illustration, caricature, parody or pastiche."

Thanks for sharing! That's the first time I've heard of this. Sounds like another bunch of old politicians making decisions they don't understand, to please their big donors. :\

I was super panicked about FOSTA/SESTA not that long ago, but truthfully, it hasn't affected me as an indy camgirl. Some of these laws are very difficult to implement. I hope that these copyright laws eventually get shot down, or don't amount to much.

    well THIS is awful!
I've personally felt the effects of FOSTA/SESTA hard so I am SURE we will feel this....especially since many sites will simply make themselves unavailable to the EU to not have to deal with the bullshit copyright shit. If this law stays you bet your ass every country is going to want it and then..bye bye any public risk porn, bye bye live streaming in any public place even clothed, bye bye paordy porn, bye bye streaming with music generally, bye bye ability to freely dissent against unfair filters against porn [which bet your ass there will be] like, this is going to literally break the internet and make it very hard for content creators and artists[that's us!] who don't have lots of $$ to not get fucked. Similar to how DMCA works..you can ask them to take it down but you don't have money? Then they technically don't have to do shit...this is the opposite of that times 10. You want to post something online but you didn't follow the insane copyright laws? You don't get to post online!!! It's just like DMCA law in that it once again does not serve the people it claims to and actually hurts those people.
It also makes the incredibly hard for any start ups to get off the ground. Can you imagine the HELL content and camsites will have to go through to comply to these laws that are already established? Forget starting your own you can't afford to pay for filtering all the people who want to post on your site, that's for sure!
Thank you for breaking the internet for real EU.
I truly hope all the EU cammodels are taking this seriously and writing and shaming the fuck out of their politicians...cos this sets president and effects us all. Because I am. And not just for cammdeling work, this will affect my ability to create vanilla art, to protest online as I do, ability to advertise, so many things....

I am already scared every day of losing ability to get paid...we've already lost payment processors and have sites that can't pay us anymore due to FOSTA/SESTA [best example right now is ExtraLunchMoney and their inability to pay out anyone in the US] This EU copyright shit storm is going to be soooooooooooooooo much worse....now its like "well you can't get paid...OR post your shit anywhere!" awesome, thanks EU....

What scares me is that big searching engines (like Google or social media, for example), will not be able to spead news anymore, from anywhere, thanks to this. They will just pair with one news provider and it's gonna show those. Wich is worrying, because we will be in the situation of real manipulation. People are being manipulated a lot trough social media, now the knot will be tighter.
My english is bad and is hard to express, but you get the idea.
I also agree with the above oppinions. Content creators will have a very hard time. Also, you won't be able to spread a joke or a meme anymore, make an inspired halloween clip, for example, because of this. Ok, let's say you put the source for jokes and memes, but for some, is really difficult to find the real source.
This is just stupid and obivously theese laws are serving political purpose, wich brings me back to the first paragraph. It's gonna be interesting how we will reach all the informational channel sources.
