    Lightbulb Strippers in Sobriety

Hey Guys! I wanted to start a thread just to share your experience, strength on hope on being a dancer in sobriety. Me personally I started dancing back when I was using but I've been clean for 3 years now. I thought it just could be cool to have a thread on here talking about dancing while in recovery! Sometimes I feel weird talking to other sober people about my job because it is at bar and stuff. But yea any ways have at it!

Well needed thread!! I've been driving to work recently to help me to not drink on shift. Generally I just give the waitresses a heads up that I'm not drinking and they'll bring me soda water when I order a vodka soda lime. Gets tricky when guys want to buy everyone shots though, or when I'm tired and my "fake drunk" act isn't convincing enough, so could definitely use some tips on that.

Congrats on being 3 years sober, that's a hell of an accomplishment, especially in this industry xx

Another 12 stepper. Yay! I don’t tell people in my face to face groups that I’m a dancer. I might tell my sponsor if I get one. I’ve already had issues with cross talk about non dancer stuff, so I don’t feel safe telling them stuff I’m sensitive about. I’ve been sober for a year. Congratulations on 3 years!

12 stepper here as well. I’m so happy for this thread! And congrats on your 3 years OP.

I find it very hard to stay sober while working. I relied on it for a few years and it became a crutch. I have a sponsor, but I don’t feel comfortable telling her I’m a dancer. I’ve hinted at it and she hasn’t directly asked..sponsors aren’t supposed to pass judgement but we all know this industry is stigmatized. I keep telling myself that the next time I call her I’ll tell her, but I haven’t been able to yet.

My life has improved immensely since starting the program though. But personally I don’t know if I’ll be able to have long term sobriety in this industry. Hats off to the ladies who can.

Saw this thread. Think it is a great idea. I'm 2 years, 7 months sober. Had issues with coke, addy, and speed. It can be done ladies! Good luck to everyone who needs it!!!
