It's always funny to read threads from nearly 20 years ago (you know, around ~ 2000, as a reminder to those of us who are still in the mentality that "20 years ago" was the 80s, myself included) that voice this exact same fear. Helps give some perspective.

I've also looked at some ancient threads recently. Funny how they were complaining about clubs being on their way out then too.

There were also plenty of low budget trashy af strip clubs in the 80s. In NYC they were huge until they cleaned up Times Square. I don't doubt that there were high end clean clubs that paid a base wage in the 80s-90s, but that wasn't exactly the norm.

My intuition is that clubs are here to stay, and will continue to evolve with the times. Ten years ago I didn't anticipate urban clubs blowing up like they have, or upscale clubs taking more and more cues from nightclubs. But here they are, giving the current generations of dancers the chance to fearmonger about the business dying

yeah you hit it on the head. white clubs are becoming night clubs, and urban clubs are nowhere near dying. if anything i think they are becoming more popular. as long as there are guys rapping about strippers, people will go make it rain in the club.

i used to think clubs were on the way out, but i think its more of a trend thing, at least here in miami. there's always a club thats doing really good, you just gotta know which one is popular at the moment,

Have you guys ever talk to your male relatives or friends about going strip clubs?

In my experience, it's very negative from what I hear from my brother, younger cousins and a few "dude" friends. Even on Reddit and Twitch, I hear from some guys who never been to a strip club and past 30, and not attractive, saying they have no business going to one due to the atmosphere of it. To me, men are just aware of strip clubs and don't find it appealling to spend money to get "blue balls.," according to them.

Totally! This business is dying a slow death. I'm a realist so I can't sugarcoat what I believe is a fact about the clubs now.

All of the things mentioned here!!!
The internet makes it easy for men to hook up with free or cheap entertainment. So now they have no reason to sneak out and go to the club, they can just stay home and watch free porn!
Also, the pill epidemic killed things too. One club I worked at, the girls were giving full service for 20 bucks just so they could make their pill money. Not only that, they were like sharks, giving a sob story about their kids and their crappy life to every customer, when it was their own faults that their kids got taken from them because they are on drugs and they lived in a hotel day to day.

All of this was not an issue prior to 2008, when people had more disposable income, pills hadn't invaded the club scene, and people weren't constantly on their phones instead of paying attention to what's going on at the club.

The smart girls I know, sell their pics and videos to customers though, so they always are making money even when they aren't in the club!

I also think because dumb bitches started posting on social media about how *great* this job is and how fabulous this lifestyle is and look at all this cash I makeeeee they made it mainstream, they only showed the good side, they made stripping seem commonplace and now EVERYONE is/canbe/wants to be a stripper. Just because some dumb hos wanted to show off for their own personal gain. I have an idea, stfu about it.

Oomf, with the change of male demographic and culture, jobs plan to be cut in the near future, and the next Recession is around the corner, it's not looking good for strip clubs.

Hopefully by the fall of 2020, I'll won't be dancing.

I made a lot of money during the recession.

It is shit like Tinder and SA that are enabling every girl to give pussy away on the cheap or for free that is killing the strip club. Plenty of people had money to spend during the recession. I work in a military club and I never see military guys in the club anymore. I would be willing to bet that the demographic that uses Tinder, which I think impacts our business much more than SB sites, are people between the ages of 18-30 ish, and that demographic aligns with the primary age range of people in the military too. I see girls posting on here that their money slowed down in 2013, I googled Tinder and it came out at the end of 2012.

It is my guess that guys were given a tool to let them fuck girls for free and that has been the biggest direct hit on the strip club. Not the recession. I’ve said that before on this site, maybe in this thread, can’t remember, fuck it.

Definitely. I've known some girls who would literally only make enough to pay for their bag/ eight ball/ etc and then slip out the door at work. Eventually they'd stop showing up for work. Sad but the bar isn't tasked with sending Bubbles to rehab - dancers are adults and supposed to be working the bar, not trying to line up rails.

The upscale model will be back with a quickness. But there's so much free sex out here, the demand for very beautiful charismatic dancers would still be in

Do you think some of these dating platforms will get shut down? If they do in light of SESTA/FOSTA, as well as extra online restrictions on porn, that might give the business a boost.

This bill seems to rly hurt independant online sellers & marginalized folks the most but doesnt rly restrict big companies making a bang off of internet sex work like pornhub, which seems to be benefitting from the tumblr porn shutdown.

(I wasn't aware of strip club culture until the past 4 years so take this with a grain of salt.) Not saying much different from anyone else but my assumption is that the art of the strip show is not desired in the way that a slow carefully prepared meal or well-made product isn't desired anymore & with that I feel like the oncoming talent is going down hill as well. With Amazon-culture, we want everything quick n easy. There's not as much class or cultural taste with a TV-raised, fast food eatin generation of fuckboys who don't appreciate the allure (and thus, the value) of a good show or a good convo On that tip, I also feel like part of the strip club attraction (that is still present in bigger cities im sure) is influenced by a sort of sexual bashfulness inherent in our christian pilgrim ass culture: the teasing, the costumes, the stage tricks and the exaggerated stripping of the clothing items one by one is like a whole production built off the EXCITEMENT of seeing a "badgirl" get nakie..omg! I feel like that mysticism, that excitement has kinda gone away more and more because our sexual culture has changed for lots of reasons, whether for the good or nah. We desire what we can't have. I still have faith in older married men being our tried and true customers even with easy access to porn and all..they like that we're naked in the flesh, contained in a little cove on the edge of town.

With that said, I feel like Im overgeneralizing. Black clubs in urban or rural areas might be on a similar but different path, and obviously still way more valued for stage shows. I know black dancers who prioritize giving a good show and growing as an entertainers because it CAN pay off. Don't get me wrong, I know many talented white dancers but I know the old school/new school girls at mixed/white clubs don't get off about stage shows, and the clientele dont either. I've seen so many dudes tip the top pole performers one or two dollars and then tip me 20 for just lazily moving my fat ass n twinkling a "fuck me" eye.

So with all that, my thesis is uhh...culture. White ppl just dont get it..unless it's rooted in their sexual shame..or stealing other peoples culture ..

I danced during the last Recession. And yes, I made a lot of money too, and the money was easy as there were many men that were eager to spend.

But now, we're dealing with a different kind of generation of consumers(men) that has a different kind of view than the ones we dealt 10 years ago. We're talking about men who grew up having girlfriends and sex at a young age as sex is seen liberal among the youths in the 2000's and now. And being exposed to free porn as those "tube sites" were popping up all over the Internet in 2009 and now being normalized in our culture. As well, with the rising cost of living and stagnating wages, it leads to our growing consumer base, the Millennials, to be less incline spending at a strip club.

And yes, technology made things easy to access but as well making consumers more aware and knowledgeable. When they, and even us, want to buy a product or go to a restaurant, what's the first thing they do? They go to YouTube, Google, other sources, to get reviews, opinions etc.

Reason why I see Club Madonna in South Beach, who has a lot of negative reviews, have way less traffic than the other clubs as everyone sees it as an obvious money trap preying on gullible tourists.

The upcoming Recession is going to be different than the last. It's going make people not wanting to come by and spend. What I mean is that it's going to effect the strip clubs on the bar sales and other services.

strip clubs are ABSOLUTELY on their way out. we're being legislated to death out here in nola just like they were in greensville sc etc. they're coming for all y'all next. to say nothing of the current trendiness of sex work and influx of ppl who want to do it for a hot minute to clock the social capital.

Trendiness of sex work to clock social capital? I haven’t seen that in the Midwest. I’m not saying your wrong. I just know most the girls I work with do it for the money. I don’t think I’ve seen one dancer do it because it was cool. And all the girls who thought “it’d be cool to be a stripper” don’t last a whole night.

I don't think SC are on their way out, and I still do ok...

But, I hate the nightclub feel. Bring back the GENTLEMEN'S club vibe. Sit at a fucking table and stop dancing at the bar with your basic bitch friends. I guess anything to sell liquor...

They should(seeking arrangements). Only bc there's a lot of fake sugar daddies hustling young, desperate, naive girls. The stories I hear make me sick.

Tinder, is aweful too. Men don't put an effort into spending on dates bc he can swipe and viola.

It seems like a lot of air dance places or 1 way touch clubs these days are becoming 2 way touch now... just from reading older reviews/conversations and comparing that to what people have to say now about the same exact clubs. It is like a night and day difference.

So it seems like some places still have plenty of money or more than ever but you also gotta do more than in years past to get that money. I wouldn't know from firsthand experience though being newer to the game and all.

    My .02 cents:

    - There is no giant asteroid aimed for the industry. Some aspects of it are on a decline, but it's a fairly gradual one. If you are feeling like it's doing so in your area, don't panic, but definitely get yourself an exit plan of no more than 5 years. EVERYBODY should have an exit plan or backup/contingency plans regardless.

    - This is very area & social climate dependent. See: California IC to employee thing. Those girls definitely need to either move or start getting out now (though maybe the cuts will get better once all the girls quit working and put the squeeze on the clubs). Anyway there are still clubs with lots of $$ walking in the door, just like there are shitholes where you can't make anything. It's not 1 size fits all in terms of 'decline'. But again, I say.. BACKUP PLAN. SAVINGS. Make sure you could get a decent vanilla job or switch to other adult work if a California situation happens in your city.

    - Agreed that the perspective can be affected by burnout/aging. One of my friends is constantly worried and saying how bad it is - girl's been dancing for 25 years and I don't think she saved any of it really - of course that will make you grumpy & slash your income. I have to check myself sometimes & I'm only 27, ffs. There's a reason there's 'new girl money' at first.

    - Yes, customer base is changing naturally as the older ones leave. That doesn't mean they don't have any $$ at all. You have to adapt though. I am the WORST offender at this, I'm sure some of you are like "Wtf, Selina HATES young guys" . I still do, but I decided to just learn how to take what $$ they do have. Sure, you might have to change your hustle & persona, but I know for a fact that as much as I hate them, there are still girls who can get their wallets open.

    - Contact levels - IMO, partly bang for the buck, but I also think this is a side effect of all the push for legalization of sex work. We cannot have our cake and eat it too though. Without getting into a debate of strippers being/not being sex workers, if you normalize camming & escorting & PSO & etc. as legit jobs, I think it's natural that it trickles down to strippers & people expect more.

Personally, I have an hourly income goal that is my minimum to be happy dancing for. If my average drops to below that for a certain time period, I will retire. This job is a lot of work/stigma/bullshit & it's natural to not think it's worth it anymore at a certain number, even if a vanilla job pays less.

Everyone should have a # of that sort & be smart with their $$. Get your bills to a reasonable level that you don't NEED dancing level income. Save. Invest. Blah blah. Be cautious & wise with what time you do have in the industry so that you aren't fucked if/when it's no longer an option.
