I want to talk about camgirls, pornstars, Clips4Sale girls etc. using filters, Photoshop, Facetune etc.
It all started with camgirls I follow on Twitter posting heavily Facetuned photos when promoting their cam shows. Then I noticed some of the free screenshots or GIFs being used to promote videos (like on Clips4Sale) being filtered or Photoshopped. From what I understand from this video, you can filter videos now too, not just photos. So I started to wonder if some of the utterly flawless videos I see from the very popular girls on IWantClips are filtered, or if it's just good lighting (which I know can drastically improve your appearance too, but is also kind of necessary to give the best quality HD look). From what I can tell, there isn't a way to filter or Photoshop live webcam yet, so I suppose that's the final frontier. How long before we see girls on Streamate filtered to perfection?
I know that the defence will probably be along the lines of "The customers are never going to meet us in real life and find out what we actually look like, so why does it matter? We're selling a fantasy, why not make that fantasy as attractive as possible? It would be different if we were escorts who were posting Photoshopped pictures, because that would be deceiving men into booking an appointment with us, and then they'd probably be disappointed when we actually meet. But because we're never meeting them, that isn't a problem." And I suppose I do understand that argument. But on the other hand, it just doesn't sit right with me. I think if you're promoting a non-Photoshopped video with Photoshopped screenshot, that is false advertising. If your webcam feed isn't filtered (which like I said I don't think is technologically possible yet) and you're advertising it with filtered photos, that's false advertising.
But aside from false advertising (because I'm on the fence with that argument), I just think it's fucked up to give people a false sense of what women really look like. I don't have any social media in my personal life because I think it breeds body image issues and I struggle enough with that as it is, but unfortunately I have to use social media for work. And I sometimes get down when I see photos of camgirls/pornstars with flawless skin, impossible waist-to-hip ratios, huge doe eyes, totally hairless bodies etc. When I get upset that I'm not perfect, my boyfriend always says "You look like a totally normal, non-Photoshopped, attractive person, you look absolutely fine!" Which is great. But he's 37. He's been around since before social media and Photoshop and (video) porn and has been with lots of women over the years, so he knows what normal women look like naked. I worry about 15 year old boys who are growing up around all of this, not knowing what women really look like, and how they'll react when they see a stretch mark, a stray body hair or a roll of fat when a girl sits down. I worry about teenage girls' self-esteem, if they never see their imperfections on pornstars, camgirls etc., women who are supposed to be the benchmark of what is 'sexy', they'll think they aren't sexy, or beautiful, or good enough.
What are your thoughts? Have you noticed it? Do you think it's becoming more common? Do you do it, or would you consider doing it? Do you think it's OK? Is it false advertising? Is perfection in porn going to cause problems with young girls and boys down the line? Has that already happened?
