Default Someone broke into my car last night and potentially knows where I live and what I do

Title really says it all but a bit more info.

Luckily my car is fine. They only stole my stripper gear, which I stupidly left in the back seat for like the 3rd time ever. I live in a relatively nice and safe area but there is a huge homeless population in my city, so hopefully it was a crime of opportunity and nothing more.

I am, however, super freaked out that they know what I do and potentially where I live. I know they know what was in the bag because a few of the less “strippery” items were taken out and left in the back seat. I know they found my registration with my current address (around the corner from where I parked) because it wasn’t where I usually keep it and all the contents of my glove box were moved/rifled through.

I’m just freaked out that they’ll put two and two together on the stripper shit and my address and realize that I come home late at night with potentially lots of cash. What would you do if you were me to protect yourself?

It sounds like they left your registration in the car if I'm reading it right? Hopefully they weren't thinking that far ahead and won't remember your address. They probably were in a hurry. Are there any parking lots in your area you could rent a spot from? It might provide you with more peace of mind, car-wise at least.

Sorry that happened to you. I had my car broken into once and while they didn't take anything of value other than an old sleeping bag (which was probably more useful from them than it was for me), it is a creepy feeling seeing all your stuff rifled through.

I have a concealed carry permit and a handgun I train with regularly. I also routinely switch up my route leaving the club and do things to ensure I’m not followed, such as three consecutive right or left turns, though that’s more for leaving the club than it is for arriving home. I also never keep any identifying information in my car - my registration stays with me at all times.

Are you parking in assigned spots or are you free to park elsewhere? I would switch up where you park and drive around a little before parking to see if any creepers are lurking.

If it makes you feel any better, I once left my stripperbag in the back seat of my car. Someone broke into it, but instead of stealing my bag... They flung my gstring, bra, glitter and stripper shoes all over the street. Worst of all, there was a school nearby and a lot of schoolkids and parents walked by it. I was completely asleep until 4 that afternoon.

Shit happens, people suck and life goes on. I'm still standing, and my dirty laundry and car registration was open for the public to see. Nothing happened except dirty looks from wives and interested stares from husbands.

I should clarify that I actually left the bag there for 2 days so I’m not worried about it being a creeper from work, thank god. After I went to work Thursday I stayed at a friend’s house, and was so exhausted from having an insane night on multiple levels that when I got home Friday afternoon I pretty much went straight to bed until late yesterday (Saturday). I went out with a friend last night and we got home around 9pm. I even said to myself “I better get the bag out so I can wash all my dirty clothes” and just forgot about it. I went back to my car at 6:30am.

Definitely cleaning up my car and never ever doing that again. Good idea on carrying and also on keeping registration with me.

They left the registration but its possible there was something with my address on it taken. When sifting through all my stuff I found mail and other items with literally every old address I’ve had in my state since I moved here. I had no idea they were even in there. So it’s super possible there was something with my current address. Also business cards with my phone number.

I honestly never thought about how dumb that is until just now and am having a huge wakeup call around keeping my car clean.

what all did they steal? was it expensive stuff? i would be slightly creeped out if they just took dirty stripper clothes because i'm not sure what someone could even do with those.. i don't think you can sell them for much if they are used. so i'd be really curious what exactly they wanted them for since obviously they rifled through everything and took what they wanted specifically then left what they didn't. pervy reasons? idk

sorry that happened though i know it sucks. replacing all of that stuff is expensive and a huge pain in the ass. i once had someone snatch my whole bag out of my car at a gas station while i ran into use the bathroom. it's so infuriating because those clothes, makeup and used pleasers are probably useless to whoever got them but to us that stuff is worth a few hundred or more.

Mostly my dirty ass stripper laundry!!! I did lose a new pair of shoes that I bought and wore exactly once and a one piece I also just bought and loved and got on sale. I have some stuff in my locker at work but a lot of my favorite stuff was definitely dirty and in that bag. The bag was sentimental, it was cheap as fuck but really cool and I got it in a place I traveled to and always wanted to go that is extremely far from home. Luckily I have a ton of other souvenirs and memories of that trip. But allllll my makeup (which is not a lot, I wear almost none in real life and everything I’ve really learned about makeup has been through dancing) was in the bag and I just replaced it and the bag and ouch.

I’ve become more ok with the idea that it was just a rando but I’ll probably be on edge for a bit. They left behind soo much stuff that would be useful to a homeless person so it was just weird.

It probably would've been a good idea to immediately not touch anything and filed a police report. Can't you file a claim with your car insurance too?

Just be extra careful if someone knocks on the door for the next few weeks.

Also drop your cash off in the ATM before you head home from work if possible.

@LunaMae: Thanks for sharing, it’s a good reminder to all of us that we just can’t be too careful out there!
I think the others already have said most there is to be said, but be sure to be that little extra careful now!
Do you have an alarm where you live?

Car insurance doesn't cover stuff left in acar, only the car any anything permanently attached to it. Renters/ homeowners insurance would, but the deductible is probably more than the stolen items are worth.
