Default Filling taxes and listing my occupation

Hi you guys. For I would like to apologize if this question been asked before or not. I tried searching by using google and the search button on here. No luck.

What should I say my occupation is on my taxes. Im a PSO and all of my 1099s will be from pso work and my non sew work I dont want it related to sex work because we all know about the stigma of this job. I was thinking Internet marketing., consulting., or soemthing to where my expenses will match to what im doing. I have heard about having to be careful saying your a consulant because of possible applicable licensing. Any suggestions? I would greatly appreciate any.

I see a lot of escorts labeling themselves as 'consultants.' I know where this is coming from. It's probably stemming from advice of a well-known accountant in that industry. I think that can work, and is general enough. However, the dictionary definition defines 'consultant' as an expert in a field. With that considered, I think it's an insult when a hooker or stripper claims that title, when most consultants earn their title by being actual experts in their fields with documented accomplishments, publications and graduate degrees. As you mention above, that label might be questionable as there might be some credential and/or licensing requirements that do not align with what we have in our industry, even in places that require we pass background checks and buy city/state licensing for dancing in a particular region.

I think that whatever you want to label yourself as, the most important thing is that it's accurate and however you perceive your job. If you label yourself a consultant, what are you an expert of? The online chat agent is super tactful wording and completely accurate for cam modeling. I've started labeling myself as entertainer, but that might get me in trouble bc maybe it's too specific. Whenever I would tell ppl I worked as an independent contractor/sole proprietor in entertainment, it would always bring up questions, when I thought I was being accurate and straight-forward. Maybe I'm just an idiot. If you guys think it a stupid idea, please let me know....

Anyhow, I think even dancer might even work. Stripping is what you make it, and some girls in the industry are incredible dancers who utilize their dancing talent (and sometimes, even professional training) in a way that earns them a paycheck, whereas it would be impossible to make a living from dancing alone otherwise.

Lastly, my first year, my accountant listed my position as self-employed. That might work as well if you are filing as a sole proprietor.

I'd suggest "Event Planning" or "Product Promotion."

Does somehow implying entertainment or performance in my tax return give me better writeoffs than just saying sales?

I don't think any of that is technically lying. But I am wondering if trying to deduct all these stripper shoes and outfits is a mistake if I list myself under "sales" instead.

I just don't want to link myself to the stripping business on any official forms like that :x

Are the dollars you might save in tax deductions worth the loss of privacy and peace of mind?

Entertainment is a very broad category. It doesn't necessarily mean you are a stripper. Though that is the job title you hear assigned to us by management, stripper isn't the first thing that comes to mind to most people with entertainment and entertainer is not the first thing that comes to mind to people with stripping. Other, very bad things come to mind first to people when they hear stripper, which is why you want to conceal your job. I think you should list your job in alignment with what it means to you. I think you can deduct shoes and unfits (as long as you buy them in a stripper store) regardless of how you classify your job. Those outfits and shoes are in no way acceptable outdoor wear.

In the past I have listed my occupation as Artist, Entertainer, Performing Artist, Party Entertainer, Event Specialist, Promoter, Event Promoter, and yeah I’ve also put consultant. I’m a dancer and have been a former sugar baby. I feel like these titles are broad enough to avoid any suspicions but they are somewhat similar to what I really do so that I’m not completely dishonest. For someone who does some form of virtual entertainment, I would put down virtual consultant or internet marketing specialist.

My shoes and outfits are extremely obvious stripper wear. No wife is ever gonna wear any of that shit ever.

Are you saying if my outfit deductions are too high I invite problems with IRS? Or what are you trying to say lol?

I am trying to ask you to consider if it might be worthwhile to you not to deduct your stripper wear so you do not have to explain it.

I claimed I was an entertainer. Your job involves entertaining so that's all they need to know.

The proper NAICS code is 711510 - Independent artists, writers and performers.
