I'm actually struggling to introduce a topic of this magnitude and importance properly. This post is about domestic violence and murder perpetrated against women.
There is a remarkable woman by the name of Karen Ingala Smith that in my opinion created one of the most important websites that I have found on the internet. She is based out of the UK and what she has done is compiled a list of every woman who was murdered in her country by a man, or where a man is a principal suspect for each year starting in 2012. https://kareningalasmith.com She is doing what the government should be doing!
Like Karen I saw or knew about unacceptable violence towards women growing up. My grandmother was a domestic violence survivor (had to flee 3000mi with 2 kids to escape beatings), my mother was a domestic violence survivor, back in the 90s a childhood friend of mine had his mother almost bleed out on our front door steps because her boyfriend shot her, and tragically, a super sweet high school friend of mine was strangled to death with a telephone cord in her apartment by her boyfriend a few weeks before she graduated nursing school in the early 2000s.
The murders keep happening. In California I was living in that state during the time when a pregnant Laci Peterson was murdered by her husband around Christmas, and now the news was recently filled with the murder of a pregnant Shanann Watts and her two kids by her own husband! And murders like this seem to happen almost weekly somewhere!
Like Karen has alluded to, these aren't isolated events that make it seem as if it could never happen to you but that this is a widespread systematic problem with males in which males turn into homicidal maniacs when they don't get their way with a woman, or when a woman wants to leave them. Karen's data also shows that 2/3 of women are most likely to be murdered by their partners or former partner.
