Default If you want cheap dental care...

7 miles south of Yuma, AZ is Los Algodones, Mexico.

    From:
    https://truthout.org/articles/millio...r-health-care/

Los Algodones has to be seen to believed. There are more dentists per capita than anywhere else in the world. It seems like every square foot of public space wall is covered with advertisements promising quality and affordable dental care, vision care and prescription drugs.
The costs savings are hard to debate. Dental work in Mexico is on average two-thirds less than in the US and customers may save 80 percent or more on some costly operations.

My friend got her teeth fixed in Brazil for like 200 bucks, which would've cost her about 5k here! The Brazilian dentist said the dentist from the U.S. did such s shit job, and was trying to milk it. Which agree. Her tooth here turned black and was soar. She was told she was close to getting the infection going to her blood stream.

    Crazy.

I know dental work here is pricey, but most do shit work unfortunately.

It isn't necessary nor is it always feasible to travel overseas for affordable dental care. If a person can't pay for dental care than that person probably can't even pay for the trip and lodging. Plus many of these countries aren't safe to travel to especially for women. Look at that beauty Carla Stefaniak who was recently sexually assaulted and killed in Costa Rica. She wasn't bothering anyone. Poor baby..

That said, the most important aspect of dental care is yearly teeth cleaning. Special dental tools need to be used to clean under your gum line to remove the buildup of plaque. The procedure can be had for as little as $20 at your dental school. These schools need people to work on and they take it very seriously with an actual dentist overlooking all of the work done by the students.

I use my local community college. They have a dental school clinic and it cost me $20 for a full professional teeth cleaning which includes basic health screening, careful measurement of my gum depths, full x rays, cleaning, and fluoride treatment. I get lots of free stuff on my way out the door too (bag with new toothpaste, brushes, mouthwash and other stuff). If you need any extra major work they have a referral list.

The facility is brand new and they go above and beyond just a simple cleaning all for 20$. Dental schools like this are all around the country they just don't advertise it.

As far as orthodontics and more serious stuff there are many places that offer low cost dental work for people with no insurance or they work on a sliding scale. You have to look and ask around.

Anyway, preventative maintenance is key! Yearly teeth cleaning, brush and floss every day (electric toothbrush is much better over manual), and keep as much sugar products out of your mouth as you can.

Well for people in cash based businesses who have basic (non-dental/non-vision health) insurance, it's not a terrible idea. Just depends on the situation.

It's easier for some people if you have a chaperone or friends willing to make sure you don't get into trouble while going over the border for medical needs.

Probably your best bet would be to contact dentists in Canada for quotes to see if it's cheaper than in the U S.

Relevant info- one of the reasons Mexican dental clinics have such a good rep is their lab machinery gets used more than (on average) the US counterparts do....Leading to better results.

Reddit has info on this. All things considered a lot of people who won't normally gamble on crossing the border for purchases do visit the dental clinics.

All my relatives, with legal residency or US-born, normally get their dental care in Central America. My brother had a gum problem which costed $800 to do the surgery in the US. He just left the country and got it done for $50 plus cleaning.

A lot of Canadians leave their country to get cheap dental care.

Mind you, dental tourism is not a new thing. People been doing this for a few decades now.

Preventative care is cheap when it comes to good teeth and insured. But it's quite expensive to get care for those with serious and/or complex dental problems like installing two implants which cost more or less $10, 000 in the U.S. There's a lot of Americans who don't have that kind of money or even $1000 saved up.

Yes one of my relatives did this too. He also found the right medicine to treat his gum issues at border clinics (border clinics sell some products that are not easy to find in the US, because of the FDA approval process.)

The last cleaning I got here in Ontario was $163 CAD, although if you shopped around you could probably find a less expensive clinic. That having been said dental care here is not that cheap. I had a filling fall out when I was traveling in Poland a few years ago and got it replaced at a high end private clinic there for the equivalent of $61 CAD. I don't think you can even walk into a dentist's office for that little here in Canada.

Nations that don't require malpractice insurance allow dental clinics to offer low to competitive rates.

Also I looked into it and a lot of dental colleges have websites now that list what they do and don't do in terms of work done by students.

Yeah, actually my teeth weren’t that bad. I’ll be getting cavities done and probably get Invisalign
