For sure he slashed her because she was pretty. No different from in the UK and other parts of the world where males throw acid on a womans face to disfigure her.

As much as I don't like this sort of thing, I kinda hope this guy finds himself on the receiving end of some police brutality when they do catch him.

Disgusting scum.
44 stitches!?

Yes..
They used smaller (& hence more) on face..
I have had same amount on leg, 2 scars btw.
Also, some years ago, there was a model (she wasn't known, I forgot her name)
She was poised to be a top model..
She rented from a guy, & wanted to move & get her security deposit back, he told her to go outside (a bar) & when she did, the guy he hired slashed her across the face. & I mean across the entire side of her face, I don't remember how many stitches

^^^^ yup! She became famous. And a friend of mine was her personal assistant. I actually got a few of her hand me downs when I was a teen. She was dating a famous author. I forget both their names.

Smaller surface sutures, as Whirlerz pointed out, and the number might also include any internal dissolving sutures holding the insides of the wound together.
Sick guy, that. He needs a taste of same, across the throat. If he thought he was going for gold on that woman, someone needs to strive for platinum on him.

One thing about this^, if I saw those kids standing there like that, by that door I'd have turned & walked away.
Shame on those people around there for not doing anything too.
