Mind Blowing Women might now have to sign up for military draft aka selective service !!!

Did you guys hear how a group of me in san diego is trying to challenge the men only draft rule and congress is actually considering it “calling it unconstitutional”.

    https://www.michanews.com/2019/02/24...ctive-service/

    https://timesofsandiego.com/military...onstitutional/

According to the article women between the ages of 18-25 will have to register and could face the same penalties as men for not registering and updating their whereabouts i.e. prision, fines, denial of federal loans. Luckily im 26 turning 27, yeah !! I never been so happy to be old.

What do you guys think? Do you think since we, females, want equality and fought for women to be allowed in combat. This is right or should be allowed?

We've had an all-volunteer military for decades now, so I've never really understood the big deal about selective service. I filled out a card when I was 18 and that was the end of it. I'm Active Duty military, typing this in Afghanistan right now, so maybe my viewpoint is a little skewed. But, I can't see a draft being implemented for a very long time. Yah, recruiting numbers are down, but not drastically. There's no need for a massive uptick in troop numbers as there is no massive global conflict depleting all our resources. Now, if WW3 kicks off, I can see the need for it. But, at that point, I'd assume men and women would be volunteering anyways, as the threat of extermination tends to be a pretty good motivator. Total war mobilization aside, I don't think we will see a draft in this country again, so what's the harm in signing a piece of paper?

No because men going to be harassing women about not being strong enough, sexually harassing them, or doing some sexist shit like have them knitting quilts or being office managers or some shit.

Yes we should be “equal” as far as being respected and having the same opportunities for economic advancement in the same way a man would. But these MGTOW are going overboard with trying to have everything be equal. Somethings just aren’t going to be equal ...

I'm not exactly certain what you think goes on in the military, but I can assure you, no one is knitting quilts (not since clothing repair was dropped from the 92S MOS), and being an office manager is actually a pretty important job (I worked for a full Colonel who's job was essentially office management). I've served with many strong women through my career. One such is now working as the resource manager for Joint Special Operations. Another was responsible for 2 Billion in government contracts in Iraq. I've known female pilots that can outfly any man. My First Sergeant when I was in command was a woman, and I'd serve with her again any day (as were both of my Platoon Leaders, both incredible leaders). Women in the military aren't a joke, and many serve proudly and with distinction. I don't think it's fair to demean their service by assuming that men and women in the military can't be equal. We absolutely are, and in many cases, the women are better.

I agree with Titus that it is a moot point, but if red pillers want to waste time, energy, money etc. on making this a formality, I think it is fine and appropriate. Coddling women is just as sexist as if the military was turning them down based on gender alone as they actively apply.

thats my whole view of the system actually... if we have to have it, it shouldn't be gender specific period. same rules apply in most nations and more with those that have required service like Cyprus, Burma, Brazil, Egypt, Russia, Thailand, Ukraine, Greece, Turkey, Norway, Israel..and a handful more. war is war horrid things happen regardless if your man, woman, civilian or warrior. nobody is a special snowflake, nobody is promised " or atleast in reality given" any sort of special treatment, and things women fear can happen to them in enemy hands etc same shit happens to the men, they get beat raped tortured etc too. because that is war.

the thing is YES it is a HUGE difference between women WANTING IN to serve and women FORCED in.......its the exact same for Men. Those who enlist do so because they are cut out for it, or have a drive etc....but more who DONT fit or could function well in that situations. not all men are made as warriors just as not all women are. History easily teaches that. looking at some of the greatest warriors and generals in history who were women. Heros and villians of war come from both sexes. they always have.

the thing is however, I personally am against drafts or required service. I personally rather mandate that people...late teens early 20s are made or encouraged to travel for a year or two, see the world, see and learn things we dont really have anymore in our sheltered little life bubbles we make for ourselves and most never break from.. Id personally rather put out a program to push knowledge and world or cultural maturity which the state do not really have, as opposed to fighting

    It's somewhat academic at present.
But I see no reason why women shouldn't be "registering" if men do.

If the day comes, there might not be a "need" for as many women as men in the military, but not a need for ANY? Granted, women don't usually have the "load-bearing" ability of men, but (a) some do and (b) there are a LOT of other functions in there.

There are examples of militaries that draft women. The most obvious would be the Israeli one. They don't usually end up in combat roles otherwise than by request, but that's not the point. There are many vital and important non-combat roles. A tank crew is pretty useless if the tank is broken. Tank mechanics are thus a vital non-combat role.

If and when there is actually a need to conscript Americans into the military, a day which hopefully will never come, why shouldn't women be considered?

That being said, I would suggest that the whole "draft registration" thing is ridiculous and should be eliminated, to be revived on an if/when/as needed basis.

I think that a military draft is extremely unlikely because it's very unpopular politically, and because the manpower needs today are much different today than they were decades ago, when we did have the draft. We no longer have simple weapons that we can mass produce like automobiles. Today's weapons are so much more complex and expensive than they were in the past. We can't mass produce $100 million F35 fighter planes and $10 million Abrams tanks, the way we did with P51 Mustangs and Sherman tanks during World War 2.

I’m not saying coddle women, that they are weak snowflakes, or that women aren’t as mentally strong (if not stronger than men) however it is pure fact and biology that “on average” men are physically stronger than women and realistically certain positions would not be appropriate for women

Just like you don’t see a lot of women on task force, in firefighting roles, etc....

Also places that are dominated by men, often they do not respect female authority/female leadership.

Like others mentioned I could see if some some women wanted to do this on their own accord but requiring them is going overboard.

If so many women wanted this then why didn’t those women initiate this???

I'm fine with it and happy it happened. This is a great step forward for equality. This country belongs to women just as much as men and therefore we should take responsibility for its maintenance just as much as men.

Because like everyone has been saying, the draft is irrelevant. Women who want to serve in the military apply like normal and have been for decades.

This was a district court ruling, and subject to appeal. Also it was a declatory judgment, and the plaintiffs were not asking for any other relief. There is no injunction requiring women to register or preventing the government from requiring men to register.

You can read the entire decision, which will certainly be appealed.

I’m fine with the idea of the Selective Service Act, though not necessarily the execution. I’m generally more sympathetic to, say, people who evaded the draft for Vietnam than I am of people who joined the All Volunteer Force then got cold feet when told, “hey… you know that thing you told you might have to do and which you agreed to when you signed the dotted line? Yeah, we gotta do that thing now”. Of course, maybe having had to do that thing gives me a somewhat biased point of view, but whatever.

Challenging the ruling… I really wish people would stop and think about whose hands they’re playing into first. By challenging it, they’re effectively giving MRA sorts all the reason to say, “Look, they say they want equality, but they don’t seem to when it comes to this”. And, you know what? It’s kinda hard to argue on that point. Too many ‘feminists of convenience’ who suddenly aren’t so about it once they realize the end result will mean they’ll have to commit more than attending the occasional march and being Tumblr slacktivists. It’s easy to talk about it; not so much to be about it. So, when people try to accuse me of being anti-feminist, I tell them, “no, I very much am of a feminist mindset, I just have disdain and contempt for fake ass and halfassed feminists who expect to have it both ways”.

As for the draft itself, there are some flaws with it that need to be addressed. The Total Force Policy effectively eliminated the National Guard as a safe hideaway and “champagne units”, but it still left in place a lot of the loopholes which the well-connected used to get out of it. I think that, had those loopholes not existed, then the sons of prominent politicians, socialites, etc. would be just as apt to being called up as anyone else, and it would make it less apt to be abused (which, let’s be real, Vietnam was a total abuse of it, which is why Creighton Abrams implemented the Total Force Policy) in the aftermath of it.

As for the draft, it would be political suicide to use it now. If it does get to that point, you can expect an all-out war which will affect everyone, whether or not they’re not actually involved in the fighting. Think along the lines of Nuclear Winter.

So, I don’t object to this being done, just to what isn’t being done.

This is mostly symbolic. I've taken the ASVAB a bunch of times and talked to several recruiters in my lifetime (even dated one.)

The US military is run like a business- thousands of enlistees want to be GI Joe Badasses (male and female) but only a select few climb the ranks to get to the top. Everyone else has an occupation in the armed services.

I noticed MRA types want to believe women CANNOT kill with the same ferocity/cold bloodedness as men, but they CAN. That fact has kept American men squeamish about letting women into combat roles in the armed services....

edit to add- I think it's a clever way to gather info about US citizens, since the government has admitted US Census info gathering isn't as good as they want it to be....
