I've said it before you have to know what your kids are doing and seeing online. The world is full of sick people.

Yes... I'm tired of this sick world. The other day I found out about a thing called the "dark web" & "red room". Not sure if that's 100% real, but if it is... where the heck is God already... :-/

anyone that has kids should learn about elsagate , its a really crazy thing where pedophiles make kids videos and show weird sexualized things. some just have like normal happy sounding music so that parents would not even notice if they were in the same room unless they were actually looking at the screen

Thanks for letting me know. I don't have kids, but have a niece and nephews and other young relatives.

Yeah, I make it a point to limit the amount of time my sister and younger ‘refugee’ spend online. Although, fortunately, my sister is probably a bit more personable than I am, and makes friends much more easily. Plus the schools here are a bit more diverse, so she’s not that unusual, whereas those of us from the Mennonite community were constantly targeted at my school. Anyhow, it does make me glad that they’re not all that fascinated with the Internet and don’t bother with social media and such. Not that face-to-face bullying doesn’t happen, but it’s a lot easier for it to get elevated when the person doing it feels safe behind a cloak of anonymity. I see the same thing with truck drivers… if you listened to the shit they say over the radio, you’d think all they did was drive and fight. Face-to-face, they’ll be much more civil to each other. The world’s full of miserable motherfuckers intent on dragging others down with them.

This is very disgusting. I have parental block on the computer that my daughter uses but these sick bastards still manage to escape the radar and go to the kids-friendly channel when they are not kid-friendly at all. People do not realize how easily young, developing minds are influenced. I am watching my own kid like a hawk now because she is a big fan of Youtube's kid channel. Whoever is behind all of these "Momo challenge", "Elsagate", and other sickening shit like that need to face a very, very long prison sentence. I have a friend whose teenage daughter recently killed herself and she was watching such stupid Youtube Momo videos about self-harm and suicide.

I saw a YouTube video of a 5-yr-old boy crying to his mom saying he had to stick a screwdriver into the electrical outlet or Momo would come through the holes in the outlet and get him during the night. Really scary that someone is out here perpetuating all of this.

YouTube isn’t really that great for kids anyways. YouTube kids is geared towards younger kids but the older kids want to watch regular YT and thus still need their usage moderated

They have a lot of videos with questionable content that should be marked 18+ but it’s not

Advertisers have been demonetizing/withdrawing their money from popular videos because of pedophile comments. And sad thing is they just started doing this. Now granted the average kid is probably not scrolling through comments and instead just watching videos but still...

You literally would have to stand over a kids shoulder/watch it with them to make sure they don’t venture into the dark side of YT

Sociopathic pranks have been around forever, the Internet/messaging apps just give lazy crazy people a shortcut to honing their skills (abusing people for no real good reason.)

& Apparently YouTube is such a big platform they can't keep up with the amount of weird/sick content uploaded. I'm guessing they rely heavily on people flagging content.

The bright side of this is if you teach your kids to use their natural born stubborn behavior they are less likely to be easily impacted by random creepy crap online. Skepticism is a survival tool.

its the young young one, and parents not...idk.. NOT hovering, thats horrible approach, but not being involved.... and for the record... momo is a hoax.....it's a creepy pasta and 90% of all reports of challanges from momo, were actually all fake and part of the lore... and not new, Momo has been around for years. SO yeah it's big for parents to be observant, and aware of what really is or is not and just....be part of their life, ( and as a parent of a hyper advanced 18, and 14 year olds....keeping up is hard as hell on the best days )

im almost 40, and......not out of the loop at all culturally, but i admit the birth of memes/creepypasta and all these other forms of " micro trends " of entertainment and stimulation also shows ALOT about younger generations and their ability to process alot of information and content in very short periods of time in ways that blow my mind

TLDR: DONT WORRY. Momo is part of modern folk lore and urban legend along with slender, russian sleep experiment, the dream guy, the possesed zelda game etc ...... WE ( or those of us late xers and such ) had our hook hand, our freddy and jason, we had new boogy men, we had the rapist child eating icecream truck man and so on) almost none of the reports from kneejerk semi reporting are real, they are just part of the myth and older generations are fallling for them

I choose to think that this Momo-mania is forcing some super important conversations in schools and homes.

Social media and Smartphones are already causing tons of issues for kids so now people need to assess their habits with these resources.

This whole MOMO thing reminded me of the Slenderman case (where a young mentally ill girl chose to try to stab a friend to death in order to please a hallucination she learned of from Internet stories.)

If technology is babysitting your kids, BAD THINGS happen!!! A long time ago people would warn eachother not to let the kids watch too much TV.

    Now it's the Internet.

& Trust me, even with parental controls and (some) search engines censoring some pages, there is still fucked up content that can end up being seen by impressionable little kids.

This is exactly why the government had to form departments for child welfare. The ability to produce a child doesn't result in any common sense/community to raise a child. & Remember, badly parented kids turn into troubled adults.

That MOMO shit was everywhere. My kids were briefly exposed to it too and were scared. I have clamped down even tighter on their Internet access since it happened. What I wouldn't give to put my hands on the asswipe who created that stuff.

Hoax or not, I'm happy parents are actually waking up and monitoring their kids' internet use.
