Default Breast Implant Illness - Blown out of proportion or real?

I keep reading about people who get their boobs done and then have all these terrible side effects, the list goes on and on and on and on with all the problems they have.

Have you experienced any negative side effects to your implants?

yes I did experience negative side effects. I developed two autoimmune diseases within a year of getting silicone implants (400cc over the muscle in 2014 by Dr. Ciaravino--they looked great).

I explanted in 2016. I found out after I got implants that I have a family history of autoimmune disease. My dad has Hashimoto's and vitiligo, and my grandmother also had Hashimoto's.

I think I am genetically predisposed to those diseases and would have developed them regardless of whether I got implants. However, I think I would have developed the diseases them later in life if i had not gotten implants. For example, I developed my autoimmune skin disease in my 30s, and my dad got his in his 60s.

I am glad I explanted bc I don't think it's good to have two large foreign bodies under your skin if you have autoimmune disease. But it didn't reverse my symptoms--it did improve them, though.

The only issue that I've experienced is random nerve pain that runs from my "wing" area down to just above my elbow, both arms. My plastic surgeon said that it can't be related to the implants but I feel like it is somehow. I never had pain like that until immediately after I got the surgery. I also have hypersensitive nipples. Maybe I shouldn't complain about the nipple hypersensitivity because some women lose sensation in their nipples after getting breast implants but I hate it. It pisses me off to have any nipple stimulation and it's worse during pms week and when I'm on my period. I feel like I could hurt someone for touching or stimulating them in any way because it only registers as pain to me, never pleasure. Other than those two issues I've been okay so far and I've had my implants for 4 years now.

With any type of surgery there could/will be some risks.

I don’t think I could personally do it cause I hate surgery (it causes my anxiety to go through the roof due to the extreme lack of control over my body) but if a lady wants to do it and is aware of the risks then to each her own

I know a family member of mine had hers done, though this was back in the days before the technological advancement in breast augmentation surgery, and she had one of hers harden as one of the side effects. That side effect caused another - noticeable asymmetric breasts.

Overall though she seemed to be satisfied cause she was always topless and I saw more of her breast than I’d like to remember lol

I have a question about your implants: were they textured?

The only horrible side effect i has was the 'boobie blues'. Most women get some level of this and it's related to the anaesthetic. I just felt really really low and shitty for about 2 weeks. Mine were under the muscle implants though so you may not have this if yours are overs. Overs tend to heal much faster and with less likelihood of complications.

I deliberately chose a surgeon famous for his reconstructive work rather than one who just does cosmetic. He spends day in day out making women who've lost their breasts through C etc look normal again, so i trusted him completely.

Honestly while i know it seems such a major surgery it's really not that scary at all x

No, they were smooth cohesive gel by Mentor.

My friend had to take her out because she was always getting sick. She had for a few years. She found out in the end it was the implant.
