Default Foundation color: darker or lighter for stage lighting?

Hey all! Need help with the best foundation shade for average club lighting. Me learning makeup has been years work in progress, and I am wanting to step it up a bit more.

I remember some youtube makeup person saying she used a shade darker for her stage makeup, but that was for ballet type stage lighting.

I went to MAC and got color matched, but it is just a bit light in my bathroom lighting. Looks good if a bit light on my winter skin, but as soon as I get any sun it's going to be too light.

Do you think it matters whether the foundation is a shade darker, or lighter, to really make a polished look that pops on stage? Does it matter? Or is it more all about the contouring?

    Thanks so much in advance!

The lady who helped me at MAC I think was new. I asked for a shade darker but I wonder if she accidentally sent me home with the one that was a shade lighter. Deciding whether to return...

Mac is known for matching you a shade lighter. I would take it back and get a darker shade. As for club lighting it varies from club to club. I wear the same foundation shade no matter where I'm going. Go to different counters and get samples and try to you find a match. In general I wear a slightly darker foundation as if I wear my exact skin tone I look washed out and mask like. But I also wear Tanner a lot as I hate looking pale. A few times i ended up with too orange foundation I would save for the club because you could not notice under the lights.

Do you like BB or CC products?
Bc they are more 'shade friendly'
If you need a little extra coverage, you can add concealer

    Great^!
I tried on one from Clinque, went to Ulta, they had a rep there, she put it on me, which was a good idea..
I wasn't able to wear it, I'm super dry, & it was one of those that helps get rid of dark spots, which I needed.
    Too drying tho.
I wear so many serums/skin care.

I have L'oreal Blur foundation in a tube, it's pretty good, but I'm going to get the later version, or see if I can get a better one/different brand thru Sephora promo

I think it depends on the look you're going for, personally.

Hm, good point. I ALMOST like the lighter one. Really dispels some of the shadows I am starting to get in my 37 year old face. Ha. Just don't wanna look like a bald eagle. Perhaps I will put some on later, take a pic and let y'all see what you think.

I always liked a high- contrast look for myself. Dark hair and fair skin. I use contouring and bronzer to add life back into my face.

I feel you on wanting to step up your makeup game! I feel like i spent 90% of my stripping career with only the most basic of understandings of how to do my makeup. I'm not really sure why it didn't occur to me to put some time, effort, and money into learning how to do my makeup. You'd think i would've quickly become an expert considering how it could've affected my earnings. Shrugs.

I've never heard about wearing darker foundation on stage but I think in general in any lighting darker foundation and having a face darker than the rest of your body is super unflattering. I would choose to have my face lighter if it had to be one or the other. I would just add color back to my face with blush/highlight/bronzer whatever your preference is.
