It seems weird to call the police non emergency line. And small claims would be impossible without proof. So what should a dancer do if this was to happen?

I honest to god would call the police. It's theft plain and simple.
"People jack off with the left hand and point with the right."
"You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave."

Curious to know what excuse they are giving not to pay you? That's 100% theft.

I've just wondered this as I've travelled around. Talked to a DJ friend who's seen clubs tried to do this via "fines" and he says to ask for a receipt detailing the fines (because as contractors I'm pretty sure most if not all fines are illegal.)
But I can see dancers being in a precarious position if this were to happen. I agree about calling the police (if only for a police report for small claims) but I wonder if the police (if especially lazy) would wash there hands of it and call it a civil issue.
Example:
You have VIPs that are paid to the club and your time is marked on a sheet. At the end od the night, you're supposed to be paid out. But what would keep a shady club from switching out the sheets, rewriting stuff (sans your entries) and telling the police you didn't do any rooms?
Most clubs I work at, you get your money along the way. But a couple hold money til the end of the night and then pay you out.

Well, it wasn't @ a club, but I needed a little part time job so I took on telemarketing..
This pig fired me, which was fine by me but he tried to dodge paying me..
I already had another PT job, so after work I stopped by police station, I said I needed to pick up my last check, & was afraid because I'd been harassed at work.
It was arranged for an officer to meet me in the parking lot of the place.
It took a little time, but I got my $ on the spot that very day

police wouldn't do a thing,
they would tell you to take them to court, which is the only way to get your money

I think you haven't been ripped off but you are worried right ?
The simple answer it to try not to work somewhere where they " hold " your money. I ran into a club like this due to a lack of planning a few weeks ago and just left . It was a simple way to not have severe anxiety for 8 hours ( the potential to even get ripped off left me feeling better about making $0 but only investing 30 minutes ).
What's the situation ?
Is it credit cards for VIP rooms ? That's a more common issue that you kind of just have to trust the club on ( you can take a picture with your phone of the form or credit card charge as assurance if you think it will help ). If you hate the idea of even doing that, encourage the customer to pull cash and do an " hour " with you between dancing and relaxing on the floor . You can sell a time block without " officially " being in a VIP room.
its not theft, and thats why the police won't do anything,
don't use words you don't know the meaning of
THEFT
NOUN
the act of stealing; the wrongful taking and carrying away of the personal goods or property of another; larceny.
theft is PHYSICALLY taking away property of another person, that didn't happen
if i hired somebody to cut my lawn for me and said i would give them $50 for it, and refused to pay them after the job was done, it would not be "theft", i didn't steal anything from them

I worked at a club once in Florida where the guy told me he'd pay after the vip & bc he paid my friend just as he promised when she danced for him I trusted him. Well bc I refused to let him touch me anywhere he wanted I stopped the vip & demanded my money. He flat out refused to pay me for the dance & when I went to the mngr , he couldn't get the $$ out of him either. I called the police & told them what happened & he said there was nothing they could do legally.
I almost wanna say it's the same deal with this club you're at. I personally wouldn't work somewhere they hold my $$$. Fuck that noise. It's almost a guarantee that they would try to pull some shady shit if they are wanting to "hold" your money. Go elsewhere.

Uh are you a troll or just rude and uneducated?
There is literally a crime called 'theft of services'. Entertainers are providing a service. Not paying them for it is certainly in the realm of theft of service.
I bet you $1000 that if you called the police and made a big ass stink about it, they'd pay you out.
If they still refused and you were advised to go to court... you'd be suing them... for theft of services... because it's a crime.
"People jack off with the left hand and point with the right."
"You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave."
Actually this seems like a form of theft in addition to breaching a verbal contract
And I’d argue that Is theft because they did steal the contractors time - time plus services that they agreed to pay for, time they can never get back, time they could have been with a paying client making money during that time. So that seems like a form of theft to me.

Also “Ideas” can also be stolen and those aren’t “physically” taken
Also as mentioned before, do NOT work clubs that take YOUR money like glorified pimps then pay you. You should pay them their cut of fees from your total earned money.
Only thing you could do is take pictures/audio record if it’s legal (covertly) when dealing with money/counts/verbal agreements or get whatever hard evidence tou can think of to prove your case and see it out in small claims

You can't be serious - lol. What you described is a perfect scenario of theft of services. Let's get the handy dandy dictionary out again:
hire |ˈhī(ə)r|
verb [with object]
1 employ (someone) for wages.
...and what is it when you hire and then deny someone of their wages after the service is performed?

We may dance for lawyers, but that doesn't mean we are lawyers.
Theft of services could be sidestepped by a club, because we don't necessarily provide a service to the club. We provide those services to the club's customers, but not to the club itself. In most areas, dancers aren't employees, so employment law doesn't necessarily cover the situation either. A club not paying out a dancer could be a variety of different crimes depending on the situation, the jurisdiction and what a lawyer or judge thinks will stick.
If there's concern about a club failing to pay dancers... Don't work at clubs who do that. I certainly wouldn't trust any club to hold my money and pay me out at the end of my shift. No way in hell!
If this does happen, absolutely contact an attorney for advice or call the police. Anyone working in a club like this may want to call an attorney for advice now and find out what you need to be doing to protect yourself.
