Use a lot of relevant hashtags on each of your posts, add a popular location to each of your posts, you can also buy shoutouts from popular influencers who will feature you on their page, or if all else fails, you can actually buy your followers...TBH I hear a lot of popular models buy their followers. There are websites you can go on to buy likes and followers.
Thanks! Do you know specifics of exactly which hashtags to use and influencers who could promote me?
Does anyone know how to find out the daily most-popular hashtags?

The name of the game is authenticity and engagement. It's becoming more and more difficult these days to game the system. If you're using bots or automation to boost your numbers eventually Instagram will limit your reach on the platform. They're even starting to target Borderline Content and they aren't very clear on what that is.

You can follow too many peoples in a day.
You may need to pay (someone reputable) to learn this. Everyone and their grandma is trying to get more followers

This. Most "influencers" buy their followers, and most of their followers are junk accounts.
Here's an article on it ironically written by someone trying to sell you a "guide to getting more followers" LOL

Recently with the new Instagram update you can "promote" Instagram posts - for a small fee of like $6 or something you can promote certain posts and they'll show up in people's explore feeds who they think might follow you for 24 hours or so.
Of course buying followers is an option but if you want real ones then some key tips are:
- Posting consistently. Post every day if possible or at least 4-5 times per week.
- Quality content - the better the quality, the more likely people will follow you. Look at pages with millions of followers and look how awesome the photography is as well as editing and lighting
- Tagging - not just tagging your location and hashtags but also tagging major accounts in your pictures. Then you'll show up in their "tagged photos" on their page and can reach more people
- Do something cool/interesting with your time. If you're constantly traveling to different countries, modeling in beautiful places, going to music festivals, really anything that the average 9-5 job person wishes they were doing. They will think your life looks interesting and want to follow you to keep up with it
- Post and tag insta stories - you can tag your location in stories in addition to your photos. This is a good way to get seen by people as well
Oh, and lastly, try and work with photographers who have a lot of followers. They will post you on your page if they like the photos

Posting consistently and regularly is the most important! No new content, no new fans. Even if you take pictures in advance and dont post them until weeks later, try to be consistent and frequent.
Hashtags are important! I believe you can use up to 30 on one post. So utilize them! Don't use many extremely common tags tho or your posts will get buried fast.
Asking feature pages to feature your IG can help! Let's say you're gothic and dress in that fashion. There are tons of goth and alternative and aesthetic pages that will feature you and gain you followers. Dm them and ask. I've gotten lots of cosplay followers this way.
But i would say what's really important is to interact with other accounts. Find trending posts and like their posts and posts of their fans. Not only do people feel happy someone is liking their stuff but it will show up in oyhers activity feeds giving you visibility.
Others also mass follow a lot of accounts and then unfollow once they get a follow, I prefer not to do this though since I'd rather have an audience that enjoys my content and not one that just follows to follow back. Lol. But it's something to consider.
My credientals: I have about 1k followers with a brand new account and I'm super lazy about posting lol. But my best friend does cosplay and is 40k and still growing. She follows those same guidelines. 40k is very impressive in the cosplay community, for reference.
Good luck!!!

Forgot to add- collabing is a good idea if you can do it! My friend and I did a cosplay group together for example and the photos we got that she tagged me in gained me a good amount of followers. However dont be a social climber (someone who ONLY does collabs or creates "friendships" solely to gain followers or for personal gain) as that's shitty and will burn you in the long run lol. Collab with someone if you're truly interested in doing something with themA collab can be as simple as dressing up cute and taking nice iPhone photos somewhere so it's up to you!
