Question fired after forgetting to pay bill..

So, I've been reading about this, what do YOU think???

I do kind of wonder, if it's only 2 people,( as in her case) how do you forget to pay the bill? Unless other circumstance not named, (they were in a rush, etc. which doesn't justify, but may explain somewhat?) I mean, if you're in a large group, I can see it possibly happening..
If they knew her, why not ask her about 1st, before: posting it on FB, & calling the cops? The server did the FB post, calling her a dine/dasher.
LOTS of comments on the Yahoo post of article.
She was also fired from her housekeeping job, bc of the FB post, along w/2 infractions: leaving on a light, & not completing a review!
She, & her associate were regulars @ this restaurant too.

I read the article. IMO her bosses were looking for a reason to fire her anyways before the "dine and dash" drama.

So the alleged victim here is either seeking a way to stir up drama, OR she'd be better suited in a different workplace.

Spoiler alert- restaurant and bar owners are the masters of "stealth firing" especially in "right to work" states in the United States. They eliminate liabilities when they terminate people, and they WILL sometimes scam their own employees if they can get away with it.

& I've worked cleaning jobs, including hotel cleaning. Write ups are usually for more serious offenses, like stealing or undone rooms, not "leaving a light on" & "not filling out a review."

This whole case just sounds very "off" to me. I'm cynical since we now live in the age of "GoFindMoney" scams online....is the victim seeking public monies for some reason, or is she working with methheads who stalk her online and somehow figured out she shorted a server about $25? In either case she's better off seeking more reliable employment.

I'd have fired her too, especially if I was already having other problems with her. The waitress is not responsible for being a mind reader and neither is her employer. It was inexcusable for her to leave without being sure that the bill was paid. It may have been a mistake or it may not have been, nobody really knows but her. But whether she was really a criminal or just grossly negligent, neither trait is desirable in an employee.

Ok, but, what about the FB post which the server posted.. I really don't think that's right, regardless.
You mean to tell me, they couldn't at least attempt to contact her first?
What about stopping her at the door?

A lot of people said the same thing, there was something off about this/missing details..
Also, yes, SO True about the hospitality industry, firing tactics

I'll get hate PMs on here for saying it but in a lot of service industry jobs in the Southern states (where this case happened) managers will gleefully bend laws to exploit employees. Put it this way, when some local workplace drama gets resolved behind a local bar when ex-employee runs into A-Hole Manager....NO ONE in that town sees anything or knows why, for understandable reasons.

I don't want to get more political or offensive here so I'll just leave it at that.

No, it's actually happened to me, a lot of crap I won't go into.
I would go ahead & say it happens in a lot of job industries, w/all the unemployment/underemployment.

I've been asked illegal questions on applications & in interviews, just 1 small example of many things

Idc what the industry/job, when they (hiring companies) get a notion, they carry it thru!

Seems she should have a cause for intentional interference with business relations against the waitress. See Keeble v Hickeringill (1707) 11 East 574; 103 ER 1127 in which case it was Tresspass on the Case.

On the other hand her employers were likely looking for a reason to fire her. Since most jurisdictions are employment at will, why they need a reason is another question.

Agreed her bosses at work probably just didn’t like her for whatever reason, and this was the catalyst to give her the ax

Who knows if she was honest about forgetting or if she did it on purpose. I actually don’t think she did it on purpose since she was a regular there. Dash and dine is something you’d do at a place where people don’t know you.

However I do think she is either a cheapskate or has a unbearable personality or just shitty luck. What restaurant employees would call popos on their loyal regulars instead of 1) reaching out to them if they have their contact number

I think the waitress was wrong for handling restaurant customer dispute in such a manner.

It is also wise to have more than 1 method of earning income. The days of a “stable” “secure” paycheck are over

You know, I watched the vid, which I usually don't, (rather read the actual story/article) & the guy came across as sketchy to me..

As was pointed out, for a group to forget a bill honestly, is a possibility..especially if there's drinks consumed..

But for 2 people, it's kind of a stretch to just get up & walk out, not paying
