Default Anyone else cant sleep after work?

This has been an ongoing problem for me. I work nights and when I come back home, I can only sleep for 3 hours straight and it’s extremely hard for me to fall back asleep. Which results in me being exhausted, sometimes to the point where I can’t go to work the next day...
anyone else has this issue? How do you solve it? Should I try sleeping pills?

I feel the same way after most shifts and I even take trazodone (anti depressant used for sleep) to help me sleep and I still don’t get much sleep. I also have black out curtains, but I also blame my wake up time on that I have a day job which is probably why my body wants to wake up so early. Maybe zquil or something would help keep you asleep ?

Do you take any substances while you're working? Do you have trouble sleeping because you're nervous or stressed?

    are you drinking at work?

sleeping after drinking isnt the same while sober,

you are more "passed out" sleeping after drinking, its not the same, and doesn't rejuvinate you the same way a sober sleep would

Do you drink caffeine before or during your shift? Caffeine has a half life of like 5.5 hours, so even if you're not feeling energetic from a coffee or red bull by the time your shift ends, it's still rattling around in your system.

I had the exact same issue as you, and i blame it on the big cup of coffee I'd drink before work.

Alcohol is also known to be a major disruptor of sleep patterns. It makes people feel sleepy, but the quality of that sleep is abysmal. So if you drink at work, that could significantly affect your sleep.

I notice this happens to me if I drinkany caffeine or alcohol before or at work. When I cut those out, I don't have an issue sleeping, in fact I'm usually exhausted and practically die on my bed.

I get out at 2am and 4am on weekends. When I'm at the club, I walk around as much as possible and talk to guys and dance. So by the time, I get out, I'm already tired when I get home. Then watch some TV then doze off.

All of the above. Plus, try to workout often. Yoga helps with sleep. And chamomile tea. I also add in a bag of Echinacia tea since we work in a bacteria ridden environment. Hot baths with Epsom salt. Reading before you go to bed. Magnesium supplements.

A hot shower or bath filled with epsom salts always makes me drowsy! Sometimes I'll pass out waiting to dry off.

Yes, this. I'm usually all energized from work/Red Bull to the point of being annoying when I get home But a hot bath ends that real quick!

U know, this may sound odd..
I bought from a cheap drugstore a little rollerball w/mint essence in it, I've used it for.mild headaches..
Once I wore it to Dermatologist appointment, & his assistant commented on how nice & refreshing it smelled.
Maybe that or lavender (which is more relaxing)
Would help? I have epsom w/chamomile scent, mmm!

I also recommend using a CBT approach to sleep: taking control of your thoughts when you hit the pillow. After you finish all of your bedtime rituals / self-care, and lay down for bed, do NOT let yourself use that pre-sleep time to think about every little thing that happened at work. Try to focus on sleeping or whatever you normally think about that helps you fall asleep. I'm so guilty of using closed-eye, pre-sleep time as an opportunity to think, which is a horrible habit.

Take a few potassium and a magnesium. Replenishes you electrolytes so your brain signal to the body to calm it will be stronger. No weird narcotic effect.

It takes me a good hour or two to fall asleep after working if it's night shift. I usually take benadryl

I don’t do drugs at all but I just tried CBD gummies for my anxiety and I have had sleep problems since I was a teenager. This really really works for me.

    DO NOT DO THIS.

Here's why: In a report published in JAMA Internal Medicine, researchers offers compelling evidence of a link between long-term use of anticholinergic medications like Benadryl and dementia. Anticholinergic drugs block the action of acetylcholine. ... In the brain, acetylcholine is involved in learning and memory.

A team led by Shelley Gray, a pharmacist at the University of Washington’s School of Pharmacy, tracked nearly 3,500 men and women ages 65 and older who took part in Adult Changes in Thought (ACT), a long-term study conducted by the University of Washington and Group Health, a Seattle healthcare system. They used Group Health’s pharmacy records to determine all the drugs, both prescription and over-the-counter, that each participant took the 10 years before starting the study. Participants’ health was tracked for an average of seven years. During that time, 800 of the volunteers developed dementia. When the researchers examined the use of anticholinergic drugs, they found that people who used these drugs were more likely to have developed dementia as those who didn’t use them. Moreover, dementia risk increased along with the cumulative dose. Taking an anticholinergic for the equivalent of three years or more was associated with a 54% higher dementia risk than taking the same dose for three months or less.

I will have to try this! I've never thought of taking CBD for anxiety.

I have seen this study! It's super unfortunate and I only use it on occasion now. Kind of ducks because I also have cat allergies and it is the only meds that really works for me. Thank you for that

I have a prescription for anxiety too and if I just take a small dose of cbd (I take 1/4 of what the serving is) I can still be functional and get stuff done vs just going to sleep or laying in the couch, and it’s as effective for my anxiety as the prescription.

Just make sure you get real cbd, if you live in a state where it’s not legal and can’t buy the real thing it’s not going to give you the same results, if any.
