    Default Another beauty gone

Once a year now we've lost a beautiful woman to OD.

In 4 years, 4 ODs of girls I worked with and loved, and 3 of them dead, the 4th only survived because it happened in the dressing room of my last club--the EMT guys said if she'd been home it would have been all over. Now she's lost in the legal system because of a serious prior (better than dead of course).

And this is not a nasty city, known for crime or heavy drug use (though of course it IS a 'party destination').

This last one hurt, she was one of my favorite girls of all time, even if I hadn't worked with her in 3-4 years (we both moved on to different clubs). When she smiled the lights came on in her eyes, it was an amazing thing to see. And what a walk she had. The bitch owed me 80$ I was thinking I might never see, and I still cried for 20 minutes.

I don't know what the fuck is going on, but you all be careful out there.

    Please...

I'm curious too what drug. I know many dancers who've died of overdoses. And I notice that a lot of dancers have kinda disappeared the past year. And they were heavy drug users. I figure many are dead or in jail. And they were drug users that used a few drugs plus alcohol. It's very sad.

Welp in the words of suze Orman, whenever you “loan” friends or family money think if it as money you are gifting them cause rarely do friends n family payback loans.

    Rip to those ladies.

Not sure if it’s the case here but.........

I have been seeing reports of people overdosing from fentanyl cause it’s similar to heroin but stronger and they think they can handle it or don’t realize how much more potent it is. Or the dealers accidentally lace heroin with fentanyl and the buyer doesn’t realize then accidentally overdoses.

I also saw one documentary where a lady went to rehab to quit heroin, was clean for a while, then relapsed soon after she got out rehab. She didn’t realize her tolerance level had decreased and tried to use the same amount strength she used to do but it was too strong and she overdosed

Google fentanyl, carfentanyl, and Big Pharm + opiates.

& Yes people OD when they get clean, get out of rehab and then relapse with no built in tolerance to whatever bag they score, from whichever dealer they found.

Reading about this topic is going down a rabbit hole of learning that will leave you sadder and more confused about people and society than you felt before you found all of it out.

BTW...…….heroin has had it's moments historically & was a scourge on the public in the US before coke replaced it.

The difference now is industrial labs are supplying material to dealers and the synthetics are far more powerful than the plant sourced material.

The old saying about having a drug habit is- you can have a long boring life or a short exciting one. Sadly a hardcore addiction usually locks you into a situation where your life is a short and often painful one. Not just for you but people around you.

So sorry to hear of your losses.

Do you think you can convince the club owners to encourage dancers with drug problems to get help, if they're not doing something like that already?

I work in a different club now, but thanks for the idea.

This girl, like many others, was headed for trouble whether she danced or not. But this business is hazardous. No one with substance issues should dance, yet such a high proportion of them have that problem.

DJ, nice to see you back on..

But yeah, so sorry to hear..

I remember one girl, she wasn't a dancer but a sex worker..

I knew her (kinda) thru here, we were going to meet up..

I kept telling her to be careful, I actually had a premonition about something happening to her.
She stopped contacting me (she had my email also).
So, I guess I know, but really I'll never.

It's just so..frustrating, & yeah, the deadly shit that's out there, much worse than what I've known.

The whole reason organizations like Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotic Addicts Anonymous EXIST is- 1) addictions often kill people, and 2) the most unlikely people can fall prey to an addiction. All it takes is going through a hard time emotionally, or having the wrong friend or spouse, or living with physical pain that requires large doses of opiates.

& BTW Americans are incredibly lucky that chemical dependency treatment is worked into the budgets of some states. In some non-Westernized nations, your addiction is considered a "black mark" on you and you are shunned and treated like the Walking Dead until you are indeed, dead from your drug of choice. (In one case I know of, the guy's family refused to claim his remains at the morgue, so he became a badly needed medical school cadaver.)

Ultimately society's good intentions AND the love of your friends will not save you if you have some sort of death wish that involves shoving poison into yourself or just staying around people who will sell it to you.

I agree. This business can be ruthless and the temptation is always going to be there. So sad.

Having a job where you can make a lot of money in a short period of time is a bad thing if you're an addict.

I have songs I send out to them, and also a couple songs I send out to my old best friend Dale that got shot.

But I'd rather not have to do that any more than I have been. Plus you can only do that so many times in a night. (I don't say they're dead, rather 'She's out there watching...', but still)

It's at an epidemic level here in Northeast Florida too, including in the clubs. We've had girls OD in the dressing rooms and get wheeled out on stretchers. We've also had countless girls start out beautiful, then go on a downward slide to soon never be seen again. In one club I visit every so often, the local drug dealer has a regular spot in a corner table and he's the most popular guy in the club.

Now to be clear, drugs have been present in clubs for as long as I've been clubbing. 20 years ago, when I clubbed on and off in the northeast, having coke on you went a long way to opening up your night. But this heroin stuff is just so debilitating and nastily addictive that it has changed everything. I try mightily to avoid girls who are showing signs of habitual opioid use, but it's not always easily to tell, especially when they're in the early stages of their addictions.

But more than anything, this scares the shit out of me as a parent. If this keeps up, I may be tempted to raise my kids in a cabin in the woods just to keep them as far away from temptations like drugs as possible.
