On Schedule C, Line A you put "Independent Artists, Writers and Performers." On line B you put the number 7115. On the bottom of your 1040, you should probably put "Independent Artists, Writers and Performers." Although that does not get transcribed on a tax transcript, so it really won't show up if someone requests a tax transcript. I've seen the silliest things on the occupation line on a 1040 and the service does not care. On Schedule C, it does matter, because if you put in the wrong number, you will get an auditor who is completely unfamiliar with our industry. This means you have to spend longer in the audit process educating the auditor and you will antagonize the auditor because you are making him or her do more work than necessary.
