    Default Is Manhattan alternative friendly?

I am short and slim, long brown hair, pale skin and a few large tattoos on my arms and legs.
Would I stand a chance in Manhattan?
Do they hire strictly on looks alone like Vegas or do they give you a chance for a stage audition?
I’m looking for other “big dog” cities I can make it in besides Portland...

They may give a chance for an audition but they usually know whether they want to hire you or not pretty much right away.

You should always try but Manhattan is less tatoo friendly compared to some other cities.

I've met people in the music/entertainment business in NYC. Here's my take on the area-

    * Manhattan has always wanted "Barbie Doll" type girls. That's the norm.

    * Smaller clubs in the boroughs will tolerate "personal quirks" within reason.

    * IMO not all tats are good tats in the strip club world. Not trying to be hurtful. The manager will pretty much let you know (politely) what is OK, and what is not OK.

My feelings are, greater New England is a better area to work in for girls and women who are very unique or don't want to keep a full time schedule for dancing.

Manhattan clubs seem to prefer modelesque looking girls, that's true.

All mine are colorful animals/florals. Can you elaborate what you mean by not all are good in the club? Thanks

Saw a few girls in Nyc with tatoos but those girls have enhancements (BA, BB, facial surgeries, fillers, etc). Pretty much Instagram material and not the typical girl next door alternative look. You should try and audition and not worry if some places say no, still try if you want to work Manhattan. Mid-Atlantic states (nj, pa, md) are alternative-look friendly, too.

No- gang tats, overly freaky tats, or bad tats (like a tat that is supposed to be a mermaid but looks like a catfish)

    It's manager's discretion.

Speaking from what I know, Manhattan hiring preferences skew towards "working models with the desire to moonlight as strippers." AKA The norm. Most waitresses and hostesses in that area have to be pretty and personable to be hired. (I'm just speaking from what my friends who worked in Manhattan told me.)

& Ultimately, stage fees are high there. Higher than most dancers want to deal with.....Just warning you.

What she said. Beautiful model job worthy women EVERYWHERE in Manhattan. Very competitive in clubs, very high fees. Prepare to complete wirh the best for the shrinking pool of money (at least, in my view).

I was just hanging with a friend who IS a model and worked in Manhattan for several years. Even she was telling me how it's so much pressure to maintain your look and she doesn't miss it!

Hey! I dance in NYC. They really prefer the "girl next door" model look. However, if you're heavily tatted then definitely try Pumps in Brooklyn.
Also try Sapphire 39. Sapphire 60 is no/few tattoos.
