Tired Working when you are sick

I’d love to hear from other entertainers what they do when they have the flu or a cough and taking a night off is out of the question. How do you manage to chat to customers? I got a viral infection with a cough I need to make money so I can’t take the night off work

    You don't.

Seriously, that's an asshole move to go to work when you are obviously sick. I'm sure the other girls you share a small dressing room with won't appreciate it when they catch your illness, nor will the customers you breathe on.

I dont think any bill being a day or two late is worth getting several other people sick, plus delaying your own healing time since you need to rest. Sorry.

This. You just don't go. I'd be super pissed if a girl came in that was sick and got me sick. Think about the health of everyone else you are putting at risk. Maybe sign up to cam if you think you feel well enough to go into work at a club. That way you won't expose so many people to your virus. You can sign up with Boleyn Models to get paid daily. There are a lot of sites to cam on that will approve you pretty quick also.

I personally wouldn't go if I were sick and contagious. I see girls come in sick all the time and it's absolutely disgusting, but you can't force people to go home or stay home from work.
I'm going to save you the "stay home from work" speech, as I know you're probably going to go in anyway. Try to get some antibiotics and take some meds. Wash your hands, cover your cough (if you have one), try to keep talking to a minimum.. Etc.
I agree with the other two posters here, but like I said, you can't force a personal contractor to go home because she has a fever, the flu.. Etc. Unpopular opinion, but that's just what you deal with.
Yea, you should look out and care for your Co workers, but that just isn't reality.. Sometimes life happens and you have no choice but to go in

Antibiotics are useless for a viral infection and taking them when it’s not medically necessary contributes to antibiotic resistance, fyi

My comment wasn't directed towards the OPs specific situation, but in general. As in, that's what someone should do if they need anti biotics. Everything I listed is just general knowledge on how someone can get better or keep from spreading germs. If your situation doesn't call for antibiotics, you'd obviously not take them

Most of us girls who work in the club have rules and set nights to work I already took a day off this week due to a migraine and I have a viral infection from another dancer at the club in all honesty if they don’t care who they infect at work why should I? People are sick all the time they can’t just miss a days pay over a cough if it was a stomach flu I’d understand but a viral cough isn’t the worst. I do remember the first time a girl came into work sick I got it twice as bad and was annoyed but most the girls don’t care about infecting co workers and are just focused on money and rightly so I’m not there to put other girls before my money

    No.

When you are sick your body is telling you to rest

Plus if you’re contagious then definitely stay home

Always be saving so you can afford to take a day or two off - just as you would if you had a vanilla job and took a sick day

I was also going to mention saving cuz I think it totally ties into this topic. It's definitely wise to have a chunk in savings so You don't feel like you have to go to work. I can't even count how many times I hear " I really don't want to be here but I need to make rent!!" In the locker room.

This is really an immature and selfish way to think about it. How old are you?

Not to be dramatic but it's a public health thing. You are perpetuating the spread of disease. There are people in the world with compromised immune systems and on immunosuppressant medications that have to be hospitalized over "just a viral cough". You give your illness to a customer, he gives it to that person out in the regular world.

It's one thing to go to work when sick if you sit in an office all day but it's a whole 'nother thing if you are in a job where you're sharing tiny spaces & literally breathing your germs into people's bubbles.

^^^All this. Plus, a lot of the staff and customers have kids and it's not fair to them to be exposed to bronchitis or the flu or whatever.

Sugarhoney, I have sympathy for you. I’ve been sick recently since yesterday and the day before, but thankfully am now starting to recover. I went ahead and took the night off tonight too despite already prepaying the house fee. I had enough strength to possibly handle it, but from what I’ve read I might still be contagious. Plus I don’t want to risk backsliding and getting back to where I was if I might still be vulnerable.

Plus I think spending all the time I did laying down most of the time, and lots of sleeping, and drinking fluids, and eating soup helped immensely in getting over the worst of it in two days. But just to be safe, I might not come in until Saturday...or perhaps even Monday.

I do understand that bills and whatnot are important. But your health is even more so.

You're never gonna recover quick if you don't chill at home and take care of yourself. Look up on holistic treatments, soups, teas, etc. Olive leaf supplements to boost your immune system.

No it isn’t actually our boss is mad he doesn’t have enough girls to cover some nights and it wouldn’t fly with him if I took another night off. He himself works 6 nights a week sick rain hail or shine. I can’t just ring up sick in my day job either over a cold I have to bite the bullet and get on with it. Same with dancing. I’d only ever ring in sick if I physically couldn’t stop puking or couldn’t get out of bed. I was a lot better the night I went in anyway. Most dancers are there for themselves nobody is going to risk a night of money just to protect someone from getting a cold. You risk yourself using public transport going into a day job meeting customers who very well could have the virus without knowing yet and handling filthy money so there is no safe way to avoid getting infected it happens anywhere. My old boss always told me she doesn’t do colds she wouldn’t accept anyone ringing in sick over a cold they have to bite the bullet and get on with it.

IF you absolutely HAVE to go in or risk losing your contract. Go in, do your stage sets, wash and sanitize your hands before your sets, and go sleep in the dressing room. Don't touch ANYONE, and touch as few things as possible...not even the pole. Stay on your feet, no floor work unless you're on your back. Let the girl after you know you won't be helping her on stage and that she needs to wipe down the pole with alcohol. Be courteous.

Just...eeewwww. I'd much rather you stay home, but I get that managers can be assholes.
