Default Staying energetic during shifts / avoiding anxiety

So I start in a few days in Melbourne, Australia, and I’m REALLY unfit. Like I’m super skinny and don’t have much ‘reserves’ as my mum says lol. I’m kind of anxious about being tired after a shift and having to drive home, and being exhausted in general makes my anxiety go through the roof.

I’ll definitely be staying sober as much as I possibly can.

The clubs hours are 7pm-3am and we can’t leave early. you can start as late as 11pm but it attracts a higher house fee ($50 vs $150-$200) and I don’t know my earning potential yet.

the past week I’ve tried shifting my sleep schedule by staying up until 4-6am and waking up at 1-2pm lol!

Anyway. What do you guys do to keep yourselves awake and energetic? What’s good to eat on shift that won’t put me into a food coma or make me super bloated? Is it worth coming in later and paying a higher house fee?

Drink lots of water so you always have to pee. It’ll keep you from getting sleep. Almonds, fruits and maybe some raw veggies are good snacks to carry since they’re light and won’t make you bloated.

I am not from Australia. Nor have I ever been to Australia. Though I would like to. With that being said. I don't know if there are energy drinks like red bull there. If so try using them. An energy drink can sometimes give you the boost you need to power through a shift.

Another way to stay energetic is to find music that you absolutely love. Something that makes you want to dance. For me it is usually a song that's extremely upbeat. As they say. "Do what you love and you'll never work a day in your life." In this industry you have to find those little moments of happiness and elaborate on them. This will take you far in a better experience.

Foods that will give you a boost without bloating is simple. Go with fruits. Watermelon, cantaloupe, and bananas are my top three. The bananas are for the bruises you will get from the pole. Keep up your potassium for faster recovery time.

My go to is the lemonade rock star ( only 10 calories and 160MG caffeine ). I put it on ice in a huge cup so I have ice the whole night and when I drink half of it , top it off with water for the 2nd half of night.
^ Yep, definitely bring a couple bananas , trail mix , cereal bars .

Personally for me, the fruit thing does not work for me. I burn through it way to fast, and it actually makes me bloat. For me what works is high protein snacks with plenty of fat to satiate, such as beef jerky, a handful of cashews, a string cheese, or a full-fat plain yogurt. Also staying hydrated with plenty of water, but not too close to meals; you don't want to dilute your stomach acid and cause more bloating and indigestion.

Mollie777 it sounds like you might have a similar body type to me. I am also slender and prone to anxiety. I suspect we both burn through our food quickly, which of course makes anxiety worse if I get too hungry. I lean toward paleo or keto-ish snacks without being full-on paleo or keto: just plenty of high quality protein and fats like grass-fed organic beef, organic free-range chicken, sweet potato for some carbs, avocado, nuts, etc. I guess you will have to experiment with what works for you. If I ate fruit all night I would be bloated AND hungry all night, and anxious as f*ck due to sugar crashing.

Also if you have anxiety, I would actually recommend avoiding the energy drinks. The caffeine level might be way too high for you. Try bringing a thermos of green or black tea; waaaay less sugar (or fake sweeteners), way healthier for you.

oh this, I actually get crazy jittery if I try to drink energy drinks and now it all makes sense. (Like I can drink them sometimes but more often I'm like, !I!I!I!I!I!I!I!I!I!I!I!I! (that's supposed to be jittering lmao)
