    Default pulled upper back muscle

I had a long night (& didnt stretch at all prior..stupid) and was doing an inversion and had my hands above my head and totally pulled a major muscle in my upper back along my spine. I had that "oh shit" moment on stage and immediately left & cried. I took some ibueprofen and have been icing the injury but..any other recommendations for healing a pulled muscle like this? I'm scared I need to quit dancing.

Lol you prob won’t need to quit dancing. Those upper back muscles can feel pretty scary when they get strained! But as long as you rest appropriately and lay off pole work for a few weeks you will be fine.

It's a common problem anyone who does pole has gone through. Rest or take it easy, you should be feeling better after 4-7 days.

Do you know which? My Rhomboids are always a problem spot for me and my levator scapula.

    Is this information helpful?

Use an over-the-counter anti-inflammatory medication, such as ibuprofen (Advil). This will help keep pain and swelling down. Acetaminophen (Tylenol) can also help with pain. (don't drink with these in your liver though, it's uber bad for you)
After three days, apply heat to the muscle several times a day. This will help bring blood circulation to the area for healing.
Don’t rest your muscle for too long. This can cause stiffness and weakness. Begin light stretching as soon as possible. Slowly increase your level of activity.
Make sure to stretch and warm up before exercising when you return to normal activity. This will help increase blood flow to your muscles and decrease your risk of injury.
Make an effort to stay in shape. You’re less likely to develop a strain if your muscles are strong and healthy.

Do you pole on both sides? Poling entirely one-sided can cause an unevenness on how your muscles pull on your spine, I messed my spine up back when I poled hard and didn't know better. I try to give everybody that poles a heads up on this now, my rhomboids liked to pull my spine to one direction causing a lot of pain and now I have cartilage that likes to slip out of place, which I have to go to the chiropractor for.

    Some Rhomboid stretching
