I only listed entertainment on my application and nowhere did it include actual names of clubs. The application included a drop down menu that asked for a reason for filing, and I selected that my places of business (self-employment) were closed due to the quarantine. What reason did you select or give?
The letter I received is in regards to that eligibility reason I selected since everything is reopen or will be shortly in this state. I do have the information saved somewhere that states if your eligibility criteria changes you do not have to reapply for assistance, but your new eligibility must be noted. I am still eligible for my benefits as this was a pretty generalized letter to lots of folks.
There’s info on the US Department of Labor website regarding re-opening guidelines program integrity for the self-employed. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like being vague will replace meeting a current criteria outlined in section 2102(a)(3)(A)(ii)(I) of the CARES Act ( I listed these above for reference). But maybe it will, it probably depends on a lot of factors, mostly the reason you selected on your initial application I would guess. Always best to be as vague as possible in general anyway.

I wrote "artist/performer" and did not list any clubs. One of mine is closed entirely and my other club that's open my license is expired for and the office to renew it is only doing so by mail. I did list my W2 job so basically I'm not on the hook until they try to call me in (and I may push that off with a doctor note).

I wish I could give any advice but I really think a doctor note stating that your child literally has cancer of the immune system would be enough to get them to piss off. I don't know if your state has passed that bullshit law saying you can't sue your employer for contracting Covid, but my thoughts are that it's a lawsuit waiting to happen if they tried to force you back to work and God forbid you brought the virus home.

(where i was working, if u make under 345 a week u can still get UI.) dont know if that's the same everywhere tho.
Idk. I'm not planning to work anytime soon tbh.

^^how were you guys able to be so vague? On my application they asked for addresses and phone numbers and exact number of days worked at each club or as they called it place of employment then they asked what kind of work I did. I wish I could’ve been more vague..

Damn. Ours asks for your salary/income but lets you break it down however you want, so I put my club hourly average. The only date it wanted was the last day you worked.

It couldn't find my main club in their system anyway and when I tried to enter the address/name it kept assigning it to the wrong business. I ended up just putting my own address, especially because the wording on that page kept saying "employer"... which the club isn't... and my own address is what I put on my Schedule C anyway. I gave them literally all my tax forms to prove I had income so I guess that was enough.

Mine too. I listed my club but on my UC benefits employer section summary it doesn’t list any clubs/employers so I wonder if that was a formality.
I was also thinking the same thing about listing under the amount to keep benefits even if you don’t go back to work but they “force us” to do so. So far I have received no such letter even though the state I work in has reopened bars. I’m not sure if clubs are even allowed to be open though. No issues with my unemployment either so I’m going to continue certification.

I finally got mine (unemployment and pua), got back pay of around $5000. I'm so happy. PUA said pending claim for the longest time and DOL said something about "you have not been authorized to file". For a while I seriously thought that I wasn't going to get anything. Things have been rough for me for the last 6 years. I am grateful for this money and won't be wasting it. I do not want to come out this pandemic still struggling and being unhappy. I'm going to use it wisely by investing some of it into a new career as well as a side business. I've been wanting a new beginning for the longest time, now I can finally achieve that.

Update: I just got my stimulus ($1200) as well so I'm at $5000+ now. So happy (almost started crying when I saw the 1200), can't wait to start making some changes in my life.

^^One more update on this. I got $600 ish this week for my weekly claim... $100 ish in Unemployment and $500 ish in Pua. So in total I've gotten $7000+. Looks like I'll also be getting $600 ish (Unemployment + Pua) a week until December if I continue to file my claim. Shit I'm not sure if I should even try to get into a new career right now or if I should just collect and save Unemployment + Pua until December.

    Awesome B lovely

If you ladies have time I’d recommend learning how to invest.

Take $500 max and flip it over n over.

I’ll also add I’m not a licensed financial planner so consult one of those for advice on your personal finances.

So long as you are able to keep it that long. That’s one of the discussions/issues that’s been coming up and it seems to be a state by state issue. Some are getting letters letting them know that since their industry has been green lighted, the benefits will be cut off. No matter how vague you were, very soon ALL industries will be back in business so that won’t matter. I personally haven’t gotten anything like this yet and really hope I don’t. I would be more inclined to go back to work 1 day a week and make whatever little I can (it’s definitely changed in my club) and continue to collect as long as possible. I have a feeling it won’t be until at least next year that things normalize. I was hoping for a much better situation but it appears not.

I totally agree about investing. It's the best thing you can do for your long term financial outlook. While I am still working, I already have enough money to retire and live for a long time at my current lifestyle. That's only because of investing. I feel that I have to disagree to a slight extent. I don't like flipping investments. I am a proponent of buy and hold. To that end, I suggest buying a good low fee S&P 500 fund and just regularly invest money over time, and reinvest the dividends. Or, buy a good dividend fund and do the same thing.

I know NOTHING about investing. Where would you suggest I start? I definitely need someone to help me. What about an IRA?

Man ..... this is weird again.

I got that letter saying $211 a week was determined as my amount.

BUT ..... that was 5 days ago and nothing is deposited into my account yet. I thought I'd get at least the first week of assistance deposited .

This is 11 weeks now !! It's really weird. I have barely scraped by to the point where I think about every little purchase .... even the smallest things.
I think I locked the mail key in my house sit ( that address I used ) and now paying guests are there until Friday. I need to drive over there and get a new mail key in case a check was sent.

Sometimes I feel like this is cursed for me. I felt HOPE with that letter.

I’m so sorry! I woke honestly try calling the office. I’ve always been able to get through it just may take a couple try’s to figure out which # sequence gets you to a real live person. I really hope you get something soon. It was 8 weeks for me.

I’m definitely looking into the ira

IRA is an account. It is not an investment per se. The IRA holds the investment and carries with it certain tax advantages and disadvantages. For the moment, we can ignore those, although, you may want to take some tax advantages sometime in the future. (For the record, IRA tax disadvantages include some really hefty penalties if you take the money out before you are 59 1/2 years old.)

Investing is, simply put, putting your money to work for you.

Investments can start with a savings account. I recommend that everyone have a savings account. It will pay very little. My credit union pays me 1% per year for savings. Some banks pay a lot less. Sometimes you might see more. The point of savings is to have it be ultra-safe. Like FDIC insured or at least NCUA insured. (Don't fret the acronyms for the moment.) I put some money in savings every month. This can be your emergency fund too. But, there are other emergency fund tools. The best recommendation I have heard for an emergency fund is a minimum of $1,000. (It will grow later.)

Next, pay off your debts. Student loans, credit cards, auto loans, pay day loans, pawn shop loans. All that ugly debt. Get down to just your mortgage or rent, utilities, groceries and cell phone bill.

Once you have your debts paid off, start building your emergency fund bigger. A conservative fund would be 3 months of regular expenses.

    Once that is done. Invest.

Where to learn about investing? There are books. All the authors have a particular strategy in mind. Some are pretty reasonable - Dave Ramsey, others are sort of nutty - Robert Kiosaki. Motley fool, a website has gotten very advanced. The "For Dummies" brand is a better place to start than Ramsey or Kiosaki.

I personally don't like to "play the market." I am a buy and hold investor. I don't have time to study up on all the companies. At any one time, I don't really hold more than a couple of issues. Those are companies I know and understand very well. For my individual issues, I have friends who work for the company. Otherwise, I just buy good low cost mutual funds and mostly I invest in a S&P 500 fund. I don't day trade. That's a fool's errand.

As for retirement, it's a good idea to plan for it early. I started my retirement plan when I was just out of college. I am still almost 20 years away from being able to take any of the money without paying the penalty and taxes, so retirement planning is not such a big deal for me. But, if you are working for a paycheck, you have to put money into retirement. If you are stripping, you need a much more aggressive plan.

Retirement plan for strippers and professional athletes.

For full time strippers and pro athletes, you need to save thirty to fifty (30% to 50%) percent of your gross income. Taxes will take up to 40% of your gross income. That leaves you 10% to 30% to live on. Be disciplined about saving. Stripping is a short career. I did it for four years. I didn't save nearly enough to live on comfortably for the rest of my life, but I did make enough to pay for college, living expenses and put some money in savings. That money and my education laid the foundation for what I've done since. That's what stripping can do. If you do it longer and do it full time, and are very aggressive in and out of the club, you might be able to save enough to retire at the end of a good stripping career. Same is true for a professional athlete. Only a very few succeed. So, define your success, and make it happen. Peyton Manning defined success, and made it happen. (On and off the field.) Johnny Manziel, never defined success beyond a good party and he is a total failure.

Something really awful about PUA is there are people out there taking advantage of it and getting paid all these benefits that they don't even deserve. Like my ex hasn't worked a real job in years and he got approved because he said he was unable to find a job since everything was shut down. Meanwhile hardworking tax-paying self-employed people and IC's like some of the girls who have posted here are struggling to get the benefits they need and deserve. My friend who is a gig-worker during the summer but works a different job during the rest of the year has been struggling to get UI as well. I've found a crappy part-time job at a nursing home to tide me over and I just received notification that my UI benefits are "pending" now until "an issue is resolved", now I'm wondering if my part-time job is going to end up screwing me over somehow even though i only make like $200 a week. I have been reporting my income on the PUA claims but they were going through with no issue until last week. The clubs here havne't opened back up again yet and i bet its going to be pretty terrible income when they do finally.

So i filed for unemployment wrong. I listed the club as my employer even though i did not recieve a w-2. When i got i hired i did sign one and bring my social security card and many other girls did as well but there are those who are traveling dancers/dancers from different countries who get paid under the table. I've been receiving benefits for the last few weeks and just now recieved a notice of determination. I called the club and they said they didn't put me down as an employee with a w2 for some reason.
i should have filed as self employed but now i don't know how to fix this.

i should have filed as self employed but now i don't know how to fix this.
It doesn't matter if you filed incorrectly, some states require those to apply for UI before being eligible to apply for PUA (the self-employed route). Being denied UI vs being determined ineligible are two different things. You still have the right to re-file or request an appeal, etc. However, I'm not sure based on the info you provided that you even have anything to worry about. Have you stopped receiving benefits? A notice of determination is not a negative document in and of itself- It is a legal requirement from the Department of Labor that such a notice be mailed after any eligibility status has been made.
The notice of determination generally arrives by mail a few weeks after you've started receiving benefits (due to the overwhelming amount of applicants). Depending on the particular state and program these notices can range in titles from, "Initial Determination of Status as an Insured Worker", "Pandemic Unemployment Assistance Initial Determination", "UI Standard Monetary Determination Notice", "Pandemic Monetary Determination", etc. Are you saying that you received something that doesn't align with the determination found in your online portal? The language of these notices can be very confusing due to weaving overall basic eligibility requirements with your personal determinations, rather than connecting the two congruently (i.e statements such as "If you qualify" followed by your actual determination paragraphs later). What program did you apply for specifically and what is the problem with your determination? If your benefits stopped, have you tried calling your state's department?
As a side note, when you mentioned signing a form upon being hired, are you referring to a Form W-4, Employee's Withholding Certificate, in regards to receiving a W2? Did you receive any tax forms in 2019 from this club? Although hiring you under the tax position of employee, what was the reason they gave you on the phone for not filing you as an employee? I have a fascination with the "loopholes" these places are using when it comes to the way they hire and treat their "employees" and "contractors".

    J0lie :
I did it wrong that way too. My state didn't have a pandemic link yet when I originally filed a couple months ago.
Go back to the website and look carefully for a pandemic or PUA link and run through it using that link.

I hesitate to come back and report ( in case others are still having issues ) but I thought I would report here since I was getting to the point where I was SURE I wasn't getting anything.

    I received 4 PUA checks today .

Hi, did you receive benefits as well as a notice of determination before applying for PUA? Also, good job receiving your checks- our industry deserves aid as much as any other tax payers and it's a shame that so many didn't even apply.

J0lie, can you clarify if you have stopped receiving benefits or if your concern is over the notice of determination?

I'm asking because I also received benefits for a few weeks before receiving my notice of determination. I have been receiving PUA benefits for 13 weeks now. Perhaps I misunderstood your question, but it seems your concern is over receiving the notice of determination? Feel free to message me if that is your concern, I may be able to explain it and send you the reference links. If your benefits have stopped, follow Carmen's advice and apply for PUA Good luck!
