Waving really hard....Hi yall
I brought a plane ticket for travel in Dec. Should I cancel my trip / get a voucher to reschedule? This may sound crazy with everything happening and another wave coming in the Fall but I really want to go. Advice?

Not too sure how Id feel about that... I want to travel soon, but prefer to do it during what would anyway be a slow time. I can see a lot of people wanting to travel for the holidays, and the idea of being in a busy airport / full flight is enough for me to nope out, esp since theres supposed to be a second wave in the Fall.
I'm just some rando though so dont make any rash desicions based on opinion! lol I wouldnt do anything right now. Most airlines are offering free reschedules, and if things are still bad come Dec, they'll likely still be offering it then too. So if you already bought your ticket, maybe just hold off and as time gets closer, see how you feel about it.
Don't blink. Don't even blink. Blink and you're dead. Don't turn your back. Don't look away. And don't blink!

I would keep your ticket !
Is there a reason to cancel sooner than later ?

I'm sitting here like " this girl planned her travel 8 MONTHS ahead ,,,,,, whaaaaatttt ???? "
That's very organized. I can barely stand to book travel 3-4 weeks ahead and sometimes overpay . I just hate putting the the $ until the trip is within 14-15 days !

Im the queen of finally buying my ticket a few days before my flight, and packing a couple hours before I need to go. I procrastinate the heck out of everything![]()

Honestly trips are cheaper about 8 to 6 weeks before time to leave. Ive been wanting this trip for a long time now so as soon as tickets were available I jumped on it. Plus its during the holidays.

^ That makes sense. A lot of AirBnB's and Hotels do fill quickly during holiday times frames.

Some things to consider:
1. The airline. (AA is easier to get a refund from than DL, SW or god forbid United.)
2. The discounters, Jet Blue is likely to survive, I wouldn't bet on Spirit or Alegiant.
3. Do you really want to go? If so, keep the ticket. If you don't, cancel and get the refund or voucher. Remember, the vouchers are likely to be worthless in the event of a bankruptcy.

Ok what about August? It'll be hot (hopefully). Everything will be reopened by then. It's before flu season.... I need to get outta here!

My company has been busy all through this mess, but I have been doing most of my work from home and making a visit to the plant and office three times a week. All my meetings have been teleconferences. Most customers seem to like it that way. BF, was in Puerto Rico early in the lock down, and flew home with no real troubles, other than there were almost no people on the planes. He too has been working from home/teleconferencing. However, he has a field visit that he has to do on a new construction project near Nashville. So, he's flying out Monday morning. If his A boarding priority on SWA is any indication, there aren't many people on the flight. The airlines are finally cleaning up their planes on their own. So I think flying is about as safe a way to travel as you can find.

Yeah that's now. Once things are completely open and summer is here people are going to forget this even happened and flights will be back to normal. Right?
Not necessarily, airlines are going under, routes are getting terminated, like flights are getting cancelled left and right. A lot of the airlines cannot afford this hit and a lot of countries have closed their borders even through the summer.
Traveling in December should be fine unless there is a second wave of coronavirus attack. In that case, the Airline company would be okay if you cancel it.
I like being alone, I just don't like being lonely.

How long can you wait to cancel without penalty?

The airline says I can get a voucher good for up to 24 months from the date of issue with no fees. It also says this can change at any time. 1 of the airlines I guess I have to call because there's no information about corona except you have to wear a mask in the flight and airport. The hotel has free cancellations til December. I said before I can wait a few months but I was just being anxious. I'll wait until the end of summer to make a decision I guess. I was thinking about a trip in August but I don't think these terms would apply.
