Default How do you stay positive when life throws some curveballs?

Maybe this is in this thread and I cannot find it.
What are some of the little ways to stay positive when you are dealing with changes or difficult times?
I practice mindfulness exercises. I get so wound up I cannot function.
I try to get my chores or work finished, although my head is so scattered I cannot focus.
A friend wrote and article on autogenic training-his article has it broken down into 6 easy steps.
It has done wonders when I am panicking.
I should do yoga daily, but lately I don't.
I cannot stop my obsessive thoughts some days
I know all my anxiety and obsessive thoughts will pass-they eventually do.
When I am going through the panic episodes-it is hard to realize I will get better and feel better again.
Staying positive is how I get through it. It is a struggle to not give in to the negative thoughts.
Anybody want to share how you get through rough patches, even if it the small steps to change your mindset?
Thanks for any input-I know I will be ok. I need to remain positive.

Simple. I'm a cynical bitch. Plus I get hours of contemptuous amusement off weaker minded people.

Try a yoga challenge. It keeps you accountable. I recommend yoga with Adriene on youtube. She's really easy and fun to chill with and I always feel positive after a workout with her.

Look back on this the next time you have a panic attack. Every single time you've had one, you've lived. You felt better. It won't instantly make you feel better, but it might help you push through.

Also look into cognitive behavioral therapy, it helped me deal with the really weird obsessive thoughts I've had all my life.

Ironically Iíve got a book open today called Positive Thinking by Wally Amos I believe itís the dude who had that cookie brand.

Anyways that and like you said yoga and learning executive functioning (aka organizing/efficiency/etc) would help you with what you want to accomplish

We can only shift our vibration a little bit. My coach calls it shift by shift. You aren’t going to go from anxiety to bliss. So just try to do one thing that will make you feel better. Could be taking a bath, logging a few hours on cam, or doing some chores.

Even if we aren’t aware of it, subconsciously are sympathetic system is being triggered by the political, financial, and health crisis. We can’t expect to be positive and productive most of the time.

My life coach had me write 5 things on a list and keep the focus on those five things. Then when you get them done write five more things to focus on. Our thoughts aren’t true they are just data we’ve been downloaded with by the outside world. We can observe our thoughts and feelings instead of reacting. Easier said than done in a pandemic. I think only a zen master could do that effortlessly right now.

i can’t stay out of the rabbit hole either. Sucks. I also got in touch with pineapple support they do sliding scale therapy for sex workers. I’m gonna get some extra support.

I feel you. I’m gonna cam and just try to distract myself with making money.

Oh and gratitude journals! I found one at Walmart for $10.

You have to constantly look for things to be grateful for. Bananas! You know how awesome bananas are!

Thank you-I am trying to find a therapist or counselor for cognitive behavior therapy-I found a few that offer sliding scale rates.

Thank you. I have been having my panic episodes for a few weeks now. I know how to calm my thoughts down. When it is happening-I get calm and can focus-then again I get panicked. It was bad last night. I managed to tell myself that I've been through this before-I've made it through many times. I listened to some Buddhist chants on youtube and I was able to get a decent nights sleep. I will check out pineapple-I have not heard of that but I will find the info. I appreciate the info.

That's awesome! I read some books about it too, hopefully something like that could help in the meanwhile. You've got this!

They got back to me right away and I offered a donation of $30 per session because I’m not making consistent money yet.

I think they also have 7 cups with peer to peer support. I think it’s free, but I don’t know?

Oh yes-I've heard of 7 cups--another thing I can try while I'm seeking a counselor/therapist. I been in therapy before-sometimes I have to stop when I'm not making enough money--thank you!

I took advice one time & wrote down things that are positive in my life. THen when things are bad I read it. Sometimes it's easy to forget about the good things when you're going through a bad time

Dealing with a few curveballs right now. I made a list of things to do but when it really hits hard, it's almost impossible to remember to even look at the list. The worst is when everything is completely out of your control and there's nothing you can do.
I don't know how to get my mind off something; it just seems to come back stronger. At times I really, really want a drink but I quit and I'm back to only taking my doctor-prescribed dose of benzos. I don't think they do anything.
I stick to my routines and keep healthy.

This is going to sound strange, but lately in life what gets me through day by day (and some days are definitely not great) is- just looking forward to the small things to enjoy. I prefer the company of my dog over most people, I treat co-workers like they only exist at work, and I try to keep life simple. Taking life one day at a time, or even one task at a time, is the only way to do it when things are grim, or overwhelming.

One of my curveballs just hit like a truck. My little list seems silly now. I still think I can stay away from drinking, but I see no way of staying positive. I just have to survive it.

How about some healthy coping mechanisms? I can never think of any when I need them.

    Hydrate
    Funny animal videos
    ???

What has been working for me lately is just yelling (randomly, not at any person or animal) and keeping myself busy. Don't do anything to foster distressing thoughts.

I've gotten in the habit of talking to myself. When I'm alone, of course. Although no one could tell through a face mask.

I've heard through several sources (Not medical advice) that talking to yourself is a healthy coping mechanism that provides self comfort.
Sometimes you are your own best company. Wishing you well!
