Skull Missing girls in new Orleans

Ladies, this is just a reminder to be safe...so far one dancers body has been found, several have gone missing in the last few months and one girl from barely legal club went missing last night. Do not go anywhere outside the club with customers, use your safe calls and your intuition. Always have a bouncer walk you out. The suspect for at least one of the murders was a former door man for the club so keep your head straight and be cautious.

omgosh, how awful. And to think it might be a former club worker who was supposed to be keeping these girls safe. Scary and sad!

I know about Jaren Lockhart who was the dancer from Temptations. Mickey Shunick, a college student in Lafayette Louisiana was reported missing but has not been found. There was also Nicole Jefferson from Mandeville, whose body was found along Interstate 12 last month. The last two are not dancers. The abductions and killings may have been done by one person or they may be unrelated. Please post the links to the other missing dancers when you can. I couldn't find any info on any other missing dancers besides Jaren.

I'm in Nola. There is a very disturbing lack of info or news on this. The ONLY reason I've heard anything on the most recent girl from Barely, is because a friend working that night texted me.
Nothing in the news. My friend said they wouldn't tell her anything except 'another one is missing'. We're simply told to 'be careful'. OF WHAT??? (well, besides the obvious)
Then again, our politicians love to bury shit like this. Our joke of a local paper was directed to keep any non-tourist-friendly headlines off the front page, by a public-image group hired by the mayor. And paid with our insanely high taxes. Nice.
We don't even know WHO is missing. It may be a friend, I don't know. Given how strong the French Quarter Gossip Grapevine is, I'm impressed how little info is available.
I'm disturbed that a possible pattern isn't being investigated.
The suspects in the Lockhart case are in custody. The male suspect was a bouncer @ Stilettos and a registered sex offender from North Carolina (brilliant!) Jaren Lockhart disappeared from Temptations, the clubs are owned by the same company. They may have known each other.
Either the wrong people are in custody, or it's unrelated and there's more than 2 people killing chicks that work on Bourbon.

Thank you for this info. Please keep us posted on the missing dancers because the media is certainly not doing a good job of it. I didn't hear about the girl from barely legal. Do you know if they suspect foul play is involved with that case?

I also heard all this info through managers and other girls. They haven't released the last girls name yet or that's what I've heard....when they do I will update. I also saw a missing girl poster up in visions, not sure of the name. Also, likely unrelated but crazy timing....the new Orleans based non profit Women With A Vision, made up of current and former sex workers trying to make shit legally more fair and just and fighting police harassment, was torched last week. Thier files and resources piled up and set on fire. It was declared arson by the da.

I'm so glad you ladies in NOLA are giving us updates..... Please let us know as soon as you hear anything...... I lived and worked down there for a couple of years, I am so scared of this happening to a girl I know..... it's fucked up that there is a lack of public media coverage on this, I'm grateful for you girls.

Lady_lazurus: I hadn't heard about the arson incident. I haven't read the paper every single day, but I doubt I would find a damn thing within it's pages.
I would imagine that the poster you saw was for Mickey Schunick. Her family printed up TONS of them, and they're everywhere. Shockingly (sarcasm) I haven't heard a peep about her recently in the news, but I hope she turns up soon, safely.
In fact, the ONLY thing I've read in the news was an article today (back in the B section) stating that the female suspect in the Lockhart case, Margaret Sanchez, had bail set at $250,000.00 for harboring a fugitive sex offender. I would LOVE to post a link, but I can't find one on any of the local news websites I know of.
And that's the ONLY thing I've heard. Wanna know what took up the majority of today's front page?

    Elephant pictures.
    The circus is in town.

    Fuck you, Times Picayune.
I am absolutely furious that our grapevine is more reliable and thorough than one of the city's major news sources. In situations like this, I'm deeply ashamed of my city.

I haven't been following the case, but why are they just now searching the Whiskey bay area when they found her bike in the water three weeks ago? Are they just now releasing the information about finding the bike?

i worked at barely for the first time in months on saturday...didnt hear anything of the missing dancer. and ive run into a few barely dancers at various bars a few times since then. does anyone know who it was? if you do, could you PM me?

anyway, yea the fq grape vine is the only source i know that is giving any sort of info. trying to find stuff on the internet or in the papers is useless.

I talked to a couple of cops at my other job a couple of days ago... both the cops i talked to were dismissive and said something along the lines of "it was specific because of the lifestyle she chose," obviously not realizing i am an ex dancer. keep in mind though, a couple of weeks back an undercover lieutenant warned 2 of my female (non dancer) coworkers to keep a very sharp eye because there was some weird stuff going on that was abnormal, even for new orleans.

from all that i have heard, the couple arrested sounds pretty guilty. and if they arent guilty, they almost definitely know who is.
The best thing i have heard in a strip club to date:
customer: we should get married right now! we should get a shotgun marriage!
me: uhh... i think you are misunderstanding what a shotgun marriage means. A shotgun marriage means you knock me up and my daddy shows up at your door with a gun and forces you to marry me and raise the baby. You mean elope.
customer: hmm... nah actually i will take the shotgun marriage. At least then we would be having sex.

There have been so many stories recently of women disappearing; I'm beginning to think it's a underground or black market ring of illegal prostitution which is being covered up by the secret service. Remember the hit on the Colombian prostitute by Obama's Secret Service Agent? He was only reprimanded! Seriously ladies, these men have NO respect for women - be careful.

This is all I've seen today:
    http://projectnola.com/the-news/news...r-slain-dancer

I haven't heard word one about the missing BL girl, except for the text I got when my friend first heard of it.
There is ALOT of victim-blaming going around, even among people in the industry. It pisses me off, but I think it's a fear reaction. Nobody wants to ponder that they, or someone much closer to them, may be next. They want to firmly believe "This happened because she was a 'ho. I'm not a 'ho, my BFF isn't a 'ho, so we are safe. I can protect myself by simply not being a 'ho"
They want to believe it can be prevented and they are safe, (as long as they follow the rules) and they're doing it by group-mentality name-calling.
Even though I see where it's coming from, I worry it will create a false sense of security and possibly fatal missteps will be made.
Whenever I can, I blow a hole in it by reminding them that the male suspect in custody was a doorman for the SAME company as Jaren Lockhart. It's entirely possible she KNEW him, and thought she was leaving with a doorman she knew and believed she was safe. She MAY HAVE been following the 'rules' in this instance.
The quarter is a relatively close-knit (if disfunctional) group. Everyone knows everyone else, by about 5 degrees of separation, not 7. I would NEVER EVER EVER EVER leave with a customer for ANY amt of money, but I would not see a problem if a doorguy who worked down the street (WHO I KNEW) happened to be in my club and offered to walk me to my car. It's pretty common, I've done it many times, and felt perfectly safe doing so. So now we have to even give the people we know the hairy eyeball until they decide to give us more info???????
I am absolutely DYING (hopefully not literally anytime soon) to know exactly what "weird" things have been going on that the undercover cop told your friends! If it's described as weird for this town, that really IS something to be concerned about!!!!!!
And are we all supposed to sit around and be 'serial killer fodder' until they decide to warn us all on WHAT it is exactly we should be wary of?
'Cause I am already extremely careful, almost to the point of paranoia, but........
As long as we keep getting told "just be careful out there little girl (pat on head) and no, I won't tell you anything else", every woman in the Quarter, dancer or not, is in danger.

Shit, I wonder if the Quarter Rat would be willing to print any coverage on this, and put the Times Picayune to shame by doing so.......

Wow, I just realized that part of my normal life routine may have to be shelved. I like going to the 24 hr gym pretty late at night, due to major social anxiety. My gym has an all-glass front and the only parking is directly on the street out front. It's super easy to drive past and see how many people are in the building. It's unstaffed after 9pm, which I usually like. It's surrounded by cemeteries, which I usually use to make myself work out harder (ya know, zombie preparedness and all)
Then I thought that would be a great place to go lady-snatching. And now I'm all worried about it.
Err on the safely paranoid side and get a goddamn escort or go in the day? And feel like the 'terrorists are winning'?
    Or be stubborn?

Wow. I checked this forum today for the first time in a while after dancing for the first time since maybe February Wednesday night. I had not heard that the male suspect in the Lockhart case was her former co-worker. I admit to indulging in a little "well, temptations is a dirty club, and I never leave with customers, nobody will murder me because I'm smart and clean, blah, blah, blah." Not out loud, of course, but it's really easy to tell yourselves these things in order to avoid thinking about big scary societal problems, especially when you've decided going back to dancing is probably the only way you can afford to leave town for a couple of weeks in August.

Many clubs on Bourbon pressure you to leave with a male co-worker. If the guy assigned to me wasn't somebody I knew fairly well, I've often been the bitch who says something like "my bike is less than two blocks away, and the sun is up. I prefer to be alone after a night of professional socializing." I still have no idea whether that made me more safe or less safe.

I guess I don't really have anything to add to this thread. I just wanted to say that I'm also here, also scared, and very happy that this was the first thread I saw when I re-visited stripperweb.
