Default Brunette to red, how do you do it?

My hair is medium/light brown with some highlights, last coloured a month ago. I want to go copper red. All the salons in my area are fully booked as we go back into lockdown on Thursday argh!!! So I bought bleach, developer, toner, and 2 boxes of copper hair dye, I've also got gallons of coconut oil. I've been watching videos on bleach washing but I'm scared! I don't want to put the dye straight on without lightening first as it probably won't take and will be a waste. But I'm worried about bleach eek.

All you natural brunettes, esp if you have some colour treatment in already, how do you do yours when you want to go red or blonde?

I have natural dark hair & went from royal purple to red at one point. I definitely would not do it myself, but my stylist had to lighten it significantly first.

What level developer did you get? I'd use a lower level like 20 or 30 max on a test area (like, underneath by your skull base maybe) and see how long it needs to stay on to lighten appreciably. With red you will likely have to touch it up really often so if it doesn't come out as vibrant as you want there's always next month

Stay away from shampoo with sulfates to keep the red in longer.
