Yeah I never patronize those things. I doubt those people take care of those horses like they're supposed to.

I think I did once and the whole time Im thinking 'this seems like animal abuse'

I may have said it out loud and the driver got really defensive like 'I treat my (*malnourished* *overworked*) horse very well, thanks'

Like sure buddy....Lets attach a cart to your narrow ass, put blinders on you, whip you, then ride you around all day n night till your feet hurt for the enjoyment/entertainment of simple-minded humans....see how you like that?

I went on one once, on a date. I didn't realize how bad it was for the Horse. I do now, but I didn't then. I mean looking at the stars and everything. It was pretty romantic. But, thinking about it now. That Horse should be running around free in the southwest. Not pulling some cart for two Daters!

Sorry, but I’m going to be the dissenting voice here.

As someone who is very familiar with horses, if the horse didn’t show any apparent injury, yes, I would’ve continued on and have done the vet check when the horse was in a pen, rather than waiting there for hours for a vet to show up. Animals fall. There has been a long campaign waged against carriage horses - largely by people who know fuck all about horses - and this article just feeds into that.

The use of the word collapse implies the horse was worked to exhaustion, when the truth probably is he slipped. Given the state of what passes for reporting, one is forced to wonder it the reporter is stupid, a liar or both. I am inclined to conclude both.

It probably hit an icy patch and slipped. If a couple celebrities speak out against something like, say, NYC carriage horses - and especially if there’s one who did themselves an expert because they own a horse even though all care and upkeep is done by their staff, TMZ is going to parrot that.

what if it was injured (like a broken leg or some non-visible internal injury) as a result of the fall? And why would they have horses out on the icy pavements? Wouldn't they wait for better road conditions before putting horses to work?

    Just wondering -

It seems like those things won't ever be banned. Must have a strong following.

I personally think it's cool IF the horses are taken care of and its for personal use NOT for entertainment n profit because those people may get desperate and start putting profit over the wellbeing of the horses.

Horses aren’t cats. If they’re injured, they’ll convey that to you. And horse people… know horses. If the horse had a leg injury, they’d know it in the first couple steps the horse had taken afterwards. I’m sure the driver felt on the horse’s legs for abnormalities and aberrations before loading the carriage back up.

It’s not uncommon for horses to fall, nor is it uncommon for experienced horse people to actually know what they’re doing, and much more so than whoever wrote this fucking article.
