Default How to get period blood stains off of your favorite surfaces

The other day I got my period, but I was just chillen not worrying about it. Usually it doesn’t really get going until day 2, and I had put a fresh tampon in about 4 hours prior. It was even a super size, so I didn’t think I had anything to worry about. My uterus was being fickle that day though! I had been sitting for a couple hours and when I stood up I had bled through my favorite pants and even stained the fabric chair!

In a panic I washed my pants in the sink with hot water. It got some of the blood out but there was still a dark ring all around the outside of the stain. I called my mom and she told me that hot water doesn’t work for blood stains. She instructed me to make a paste with baking soda, apply it to the stained area, and keep it in a bag for 12 hours to keep it moist. Worked for my pants and for the couch cushion!

Also, does anyone else get blood everywhere sometimes when they take out a full tampon on a heavy flow day? I’m talking about I’ve found it on the walls across the room before...happens fairly often actually. I have to be careful to check all surfaces when I change a tampon in a work bathroom!

Cold water would have immediately removed it completely. Even with the chair.

Oh man! One time at work, I bled through a supersize tampon. Took the tampon out, and blood was dripping everywhere! I even got some on my sneaker and was tracking it through the bathroom at work! It was soooooo disgusting. Not to mention there were clumps of blood (that's pretty common with my body and has been since I was younger). So now I double up on pads and tampons so I'm not gushing all over the place.

I didn't know about the baking soda trick, but my mom taught me to use hydrogen peroxide. I put that on my underwear, work pants, and everything else-totally eats blood stains away!

I still get a lot of blood all over the place when it's my heavy flow day. I threaten my husband that I'm going to make him eat me out, but that fucker just asks for crackers to go with it.

^^ I remember when I had a raging fibroid that was the size of a grapefruit. Before I had that thing dealt with at the hospital, I would probably go through 1 Super Tampon PER HOUR because I'd bleed so freaking bad. I had to take iron supplements because I was so anemic and tired. It was a hassle at work because I looked slightly pregnant, but here I was bleeding all over the place. I would bleed heavy for the first 2-3 days and then be done with it. Ugh so glad all that is over with and it's in my past.

Cold water and soap always helped with accidents. White vinegar helps too. It also gets out BO.

@Jennifer I had clumps too, it was like I was losing an ovary or something.

I got period blood on my car seat.

I completely soaked a panty liner because the stupid menstrual cup keeps sliding down

I go out to clean it and my dude is like “where you going? I’ll go with you”

    Um…. No sir!

He is too nice (or what seems like nosy) for his own good.

Anyone else here have "period underwear" like I do? Cheap, cotton, Forever21 panties that you wear just for that special time of the month? Sometimes I won't even wear a tampon or pad. I'll just wear my designated period panties and bleed all over them instead.

^^ I have designated period panties too. Ditto on the baking soda paste and cold water. Heat seems to bake stains into fabric. I've ruined many panties, pants, and sheets from not fully getting stains out in the washer and then the dryer sets the stain permanently with the heat. Ugh.

This thread is a goldmine. So much knowledge, I need to take notes because my period lasts for weeks. I got heavy flow, blood goes right through even the thickest maxi pads I can find.

Perhaps a menstrual cup, but I really want to find a menstrual cup that works. I don't know if it's my body that's weird or what's happening but menstrual cups always leak on me and don't hold a thing no matter the brand, despite following the instructions, emailing them for customer support, etc. UGH. They seem cheaper long term and hold more blood too. On my heavy days I have to wake up every hour and change a tampon including into the night which is exhausting and if I oversleep it's too late.

^ Omg! I wish that a menstrual cup would work for me. I've tried the Instead cup. My anatomy is tipped backwards and after a painful, disaster experience with getting one stuck inside me, I'm scared to try one again. I've been having my period for 8 days now and I wish the fucker would go away because I'm legit sick of wearing black shorts and ugly period panties. Did you try the sea sponge tampons?

Same here about my anatomy and its placement. One or two times of trying to use those Instead cups was enough for me. Yikes. I have memories of crouching to "bear down" (As they tell you in the instructions) and sweating, really struggling to remove it. I remember having Mom drive me to the ER, where they had to remove it with forceps. I got a $200+ hospital bill for that, and hospital staff were poking their head into my room because I guess I was the talk of the ER that night.

I went back to using pads after that, and I always get them unscented.

yeah I never had problems with the disposable ones.

me trying to cut costs decided to use the reusable one and it’s just not as good IMO because the ring isn’t as firm as the disposable ones so it keeps slipping down n creating leaks

But when it’s in securely I like how it can stay in for up to 12 hours

You can even have sex with it in. I never tell my dude this cause I don’t want to be hit up for sex all the time. He’ll never know lol!!!

I'm so annoyed they made menstrual cups seem like they work for everyone.

I use sea sponges you can buy off of amazon (I cut them based on the level of my cycle) and wash them with soap under super hot water for work appointments. I reuse them for months but on an daily basis it made my vagina sore from stuffing it in and cleaning it all the time...so I'm stuck with the tampons for normal life for now.

I've been using cups for about a decade now, and the instead ones are shitttttt. never ever worked for me and hurt like hell when trying to insert them. They never would get positioned right. I've tried the Diva, Lunette and Lena cups, and the Lena has been my favorite so far. The Lunette leaked a little more for me than the other two but I may have needed the other size option. The Lena has never leaked for me though or slid down unless I forgot to empty it and it got too full.

When inserting it (for the non-instead kind), it helps if you can rotate the cup for a few rotations and then run your finger along the outside rim to ensure that rim is surrounding your cervix. The rotating helps it pop fully open.

I've never used the cup. To be honest, the only time I used tampons was at work. Now that I'm retired, it's period panties for me! Freedom!

I can feel my period coming on, and I am not looking forward to this....anyone else have periods that change in weird ways as you age? When I was 19, I would have to lay on my stomach to stop bad period cramps. That went away after a few years. Haven't had it in forever. Now, in my late 30s? Same fucking problem!!

Yeah. I don’t bleed like a pig anymore.

I used to soak through super plus tampons in like 3 hours

I use a mixture of hydrogen peroxide and cold water, then sprinkle baking soda and scrub the stain out with a toothbrush before washing immediately if possible. I wear a menstrual cup and I think it does help. You can still leak but I feel like it holds more blood than your regular tampon.
