Very little in science and medicine are certain. It is all varying degrees of probability. Some probabilities being so high as to be almost certain. While not "long term" , I have argued that we have seen that kind of probability with the various Covid vaccines.
Probably not forever, but certainly longer than a handful of months. We can also agree to disagree on the value of time in terms of assessment data and the accuracy/completeness of reporting. There simply isn't any practical downside for my kids in holding off until the vaccine's medium term effects are better understood.

What prevents me from simply agreeing to disagree with eagle is his use of melodramatic one-off articles, like they are the norm, and goofy characterizations of folks with differing viewpoints, all sourced of course from rags that heartily feed his confirmation bias. When one is going to rationally discuss a complex issue with a diverse group of people one needs to be better than that.

But in light of Lovely's last post, I will leave off here as it would be a shame to make her feel like she has to retreat to Ladies Only because of a debate amongst some blues.

    Wtf? So fucking annoying.

    ANYHOW....

    Back to covid *** news***

Hospitalizations and cases in my state have been increasing due to the Delta variant. Today my city reported over 500 new cases.

I was going to go to LA for a concert this weekend. But not really feeling it. I've been hearing about fully vaccinated people having breakthrough infections and although I most likely won't die from covid, that doesn't mean I'm ok with getting it.

Ok. Back to Ladies Only I go, where we don't have to incite debates to get attention or siphon fuel from others...
That's bc you have adults acting like spoiled little brats when told to mask up to prevent spread and mutation. For fuck sakes... ppl are hard headed. Now this shit keeps mutating bc of lack of responsibility. They can't even mask up, so the hell with the vaccination with them. My fear is that this thing can mutate stronger than a vaccine bc of stupid selfish assholes.

    Hey Rick,

Two young healthy ppl that my friend knew in Brazil died of covid and one healthy 28 yr old has a messed up lung and another issue with one of her organs(I forgot which one). The two dead was a healthy 25 year old and the other was a healthy 39 yr old mother. Fucking sad.

A good quality well fitted mask will help. The data is clear that what will really make a difference is if more people get vaccinated.

Now we have to deal with the canard that Fox News is encouraging vaccine resistance. It's not. Even if it were its prime demographic are the people most likely to be vaccinated. Folks over 60 have a a full vaccination rate well in the 80's.

As I have posted the mutations or variants tend to get weaker. While the Delta variant is highly infectious it is not as deadly as earlier variants. There are questions : 1. Is it less lethal because those with Delta are overwhelmingly young and /or 2. Is it because a lot of its victims were vaccinated. At least in part.
Or most likely 3. A combination of both coupled with better care and treatment . The High Priest of Covid has said "Yes" to "2" with his usual hemming and hawing and presumably with his fingers crossed .

I do not have data on the Lambda and Epsilon variants. I know they are out there and spreading but do not know who is getting infected and how sick they are getting. It looks like they may not be as infectious as the Delta variant but that is admittedly an educated guess. If anyone has data , please post it.

I repeat my call for calm and maintenance of perspective. Without trying to minimize it , the Delta variant has NOT resulted in hospitalizations or deaths that are out of control. Quite the contrary. So far , our hospitals have been able to handle the load. The positivity rate is now back up over 2 % but all that means is that the tested person was exposed to Covid. The death rate is LOWER than with prior variants

Well said, Vyanka. This is exactly my fear as well.

And the gentleman in the Twitter link makes a great point.

I think too many people are subscribed to the false reality that covid won't happen to them. Like they think they're special or something.

DJ, in all fairness he did spend the bulk of the thread accusing people who didn't agree with his view as "lacking intellect", blindly following conspiracy theories and/or irrationally operating under a variety of influences. That of course was when he wasn't slapping around labels like "anti-vaxxer." I'm sure that I don't need to connect the dots considering that I'm obviously one of the people who doesn't agree with him, as I'm sure are some others who are reading this (which would definitely include some pinks). IMHO a grown man discussing a complicated issue on any diverse forum has to be better than that.

Nonetheless I of course would never have said that to one of the pink participants, but that doesn't mean that I was justified in taking that shot. I definitely could have communicated better on this one. A big mea culpa from me.

Not to speak/type for others, but a quick search of this thread shows: no instances of the word "intellect" (let alone "lacking intellect") except from you, nor any instances of the phrase "anti-vaxxer" except from you. There was the phrase "anti-vaxx" to describe a nurse (i.e. not you), and "non vaxxers" from someone else (i.e. not eagle2). It seems you are justifying your posts (at least partially) on events that simply didn't happen. Carry on.

LA recently issued a new mask mandate for all indoor public settings, due to millions of people there not having been vaccinated.

    https://www.nytimes.com/2021/07/22/u...k-mandate.html

Perhaps with this mandate, it will be safe to go to a concert.

Hope you'll continue to come here too.

Times like this call for multiple streams of income. If one line of work doesn’t feel safe then having a backup can ease those fears and help to stay healthy.

With the amount of times I’ve gone inside somewhere and some nasty joker started coughing, I’m glad I had my mask on AND I move away from them.

Im not discreet about that anymore. I assume they have bubonic plague and move accordingly.

If you're concerned about how safe your club is, would they allow you to wear a mask while you're working?

Perhaps you could wear a disposable medical masks for protection, and then something stylish over it. Maybe something like this:

Thank you eagle! I didn't know LA recently issued a new mask mandate. Glad they did. I will probably wait until the band I want to see arrives in my neck of the woods this October. I just feel that right now isn't the right time to do concerts. Between the delta variant and the fact that my car needs a new timing belt and water pump, I will probably sit this one out this time.

Glad to hear LA is doing this, though. Hopefully they will do it in my city too.

I won’t make money babe. I’m vaccinated though. I’ve been told by other dancers wearing a mask significantly effects earnings. It’s mostly Republican men that come in, so because masks are politically charged I can’t. I’ll cam from home if I have to, but so far the vaccines are holding up.

I don't know if this is feasible for you, but if you're concerned about the virus being spread at your club, would you be able to travel to a state that doesn't have a lot of new cases? Here's a map I posted earlier, showing where the breakouts are happening. Right now it looks like the NE has a low level of new cases.

Again, if you're fully vaccinated, you should be okay, but if you have the option of dancing in an area where there are fewer cases, you're far less likely to even be exposed to the virus.

YUP. I must be really bored, because I went through this entire thread...and dpackrkk is spot on. Eagle hasn't said any of those things. Let's refer to post #68 (Rick's post). Oh, look...a screenshot! There's also another member in this thread who keeps using the expression "You know who." And no, that's not eagle2 either.

I try to stay with the science but this delta variant has me and everyone else rattled. I have two Moderna, but it is breaking through apparently. I'm in Eurasia now but when I get back I am going to cancel travel for two months.
