    Default Why is alot of walking doing this to me???

    So I've been in NYC for the last month now & been walking min of around 2 miles a day. Why the hell are my knees & ankles so freaking sore & achy after I sit and rest for a few hours?!? I am still a bit heavier than I used to be in my stripping days. IS it bc I am so out of shape? I was hoping to be acclimated to all of this walking by now but no.

    If I may, I walk a lot and I live in NYC, I got the same effect until I got good walking shoes. If you walk in regular shoes, you are beating your feet up. I bought good shoes with comfortable fit and large cushioned soles, the Skechers foam shoe. I get new ones every 6 months. Now I can walk 5 miles a day if I want.

    The other day I walked in my leather shoes for half a mile, and my feet were already hurting.

    Im sure your body will get used to it and your probably lose weight. Im from London Uk and moving to Texas and hardly walking I put on weight.

    Get those Dr. Scholl's gel inserts for your shoes and get some Epsom salt. Soak in an epsom salt bath or at least put your feet in it. Before Uber and Lyft days when I was first on my own after my ex, I had no vehicle. I had to walk to work, the grocery store, the bank, etc. My legs and feet killed me at first but eventually you get used to it and it'll likely help you lose weight too. I lost 25lbs in 4 months in that time, just from walking everywhere.

    Some gel inserts feel really uncomfortable to have and "in the way"..

    Roadrunner Sports has this device where you walk and it tells the correct type of shoe for the way you personally walk and put pressure on the floor. The employees tell you which shoe type is best for you. It's so cool! I think the closest one is in new jersey though .

    Brooks GTS running shoes are amazing! I ran my ass to a last minute appointment back when I was in New York and they're super comfy!

    Ohh yes there is a shop like that here in UK. They get you walking on a treadmill and fit the shoes around your walking. It's cool x

    I put Dr. Scholls inserts in these new shoes I got for my bday & they work like a charm. Too bad i'm still sluggish though from dam pms blah LOL
    I feel the weight coming off me just not quick enough. I've barely used my car here in nyc lol

    When a joint is causing you problems, you usually look up and down the chain, it sounds like your feet need strengthening (and ankle and hip and glute probably!).
    Using inserts may make you feel more comfortable for a while, but long term you are weakening your feet further and it will make it worse.
    Feet have 29 muscles which influence them, it is important to strengthen them. Start with simple calf raise variations, paying attention to thinking about pushing ankle forward over toes and slowly lower in the eccentric element, spend lots of time barefoot toe spreading etc, think of your feet as hands!

    I'm glad your feet are feeling better! It's not abnormal for your body to react that way. I just got back from Disney and I was putting in 25k steps a day and after a year of being sedentary my body was not used to that. My feet swelled up nearly twice their size and even my ankles were swollen, and I was wearing orthopedic sandals too. I'm thinking your body will adapt once you get used to walking so much again.

    If you have access to a treadmill, walking on a treadmill puts less stress on your feet than walking on concrete. Also, you don't have to worry about missing days because of bad weather.

    I don't walk anywhere unless I have to here in NYC. I rarely drive my car bc of parking issues so I'm on foot mostly. I feel more acclimated than when I wrote this thread.
