Default Possible pre-med student thinking about camming

Hello everyone, this is probably my first thread on here and im really excited to meet and talk to you all.

I wanted to ask some of you; particularly some of the veteran camgirls or camgirls that have full-time careers in their daily lives and just use camming as a way to make extra money on the side (or just anyone who would like to respond really) , Is it possible to be a lawyer/doctor and have a career while being a cam model or sexworker??? I am pursuing a career in medicine as a physician. I've asked people in my personal life and have gotten 50/50 answers about this. I currently work 2 jobs, one of them I really want to quit, and I am doing this to make a potential side income. I also wanna note that I am a faceless cam model and don't show my face, upon some other things, so I already know I'm not gonna make a crap ton of money but I want to be able to make enough a week where I am comfortable (im pretty new to camming). I have also thought about doing OnlyFans and have been trying NiteFlirt and looking into phone sex companies and am a faceless on those websites too. What do you guys recommend? I read a post on here saying "any field that requires "public trust" you shouldn't touch camming even with a 10 ft pole". This may be true, but would I have some more privacy especially when I dont show my face? No? Please let me know.

On a final note, I also know the risks of camming and have done my research. I know that you can be recorded and uploaded, which was a big one that I had to accept, But I have accepted this by now. I honestly think the biggest fear I have is taxes (background checks, what if they see "phone actress" or "webcam model" on your taxes, etc etc after employers do a background check).

Any advice is welcome (I feel you guys are gonna say "yeahhh...no." *sobs*)

I know a male cammer that became a well paid lawyer who was outed. It very much did affect his career.

There is a law suit going on in Washington State over discrimination from a former porn star who was failed out of nursing school by the admin.

Yes, it will and can affect your career and haunt you forever. Then any male with any kind of power will use it to sexually harass if not assault you & potentially end your career. A degree not matter which college you go to can protect you from sexual harassment & sidelining your career.

Performers who hide their face rarely make good money. You will be hounded by men on cam & which ever sites you work on to show you face. Then turn around & publish it every where. They will be ruthless about it. Everyone get's outed cause men want to punish us all.

No one can predict how much money you will make. The ability to market on social media greatly increases your chances of making money, which marketing/social media pretty much can be a full time job itself.

You will need to decide what do you want more to be a doctor or a sex worker. Even with showing your face, chances that you will make money has the odds stacked against you. The competition is strong & lots of them. While it seems to be fast easy money with hours you can do at any time. It will still be more work than you think it will be.

OnlyFans requires you do drive all your own traffic to your page. It requires lots of content and if you post like crazy on sites like Instagram & Reddit for several hours a day, you might be able to pull in good money with it.

When not showing the face your body best be on point and your personality off the charts. Some get in this biz & do awesome right off the bat, while there are many who don't. Something I would not consider unless you want a real career in it.

There is always ways to build up & make money on youtube, tiktok, gaming & such without any risk to your current pursuit of a degree and career. Takes the same amount of work, creativity, sales, looks & talent. There is no such thing as easy or fast money.

i'll chime in specifically about your "fear of taxes." i don't think this should worry you much. you don't have to (and frankly, IMO, shouldn't) literally write out that you are in the adult industry on your taxes. if you do webcamming, you can use the industry code for "internet publishing and broadcasting" which is broad and relatively nondescript, and still technically accurate as it includes "internet video broadcast sites." the websites that issue you 1099s also tend to have very generic non-adult sounding company names. the IRS cares much more about you paying your fair share than what your job title is. no need to draw unnecessary attention to yourself by calling yourself a webcam model or phone sex operator on your taxes.

Depends where you are from and how good you will be at your job. In eastern europe I doubt it will affect you. Not because it won't come out but because if you are good, people won't care. We are in great need of good doctors and nurses here as most migrate in west european countries. I highly doubt that a good doctors career will end if they find out it did sex work. His reputation migh fall, have less patients for awhile. A lawyer tough, unfortunetly sex work industry is seen bad and reputation means a lot to a lawyer, that impecable image. Oh also, where I am from, they do not have a code for beeing a sex worker so you have to use "customer service", "telecommunication", "enterteinment" LOL ! Mostly because religious reasons and the church, they do not wanna accept offically that the job of a cam girl is a job. They do not wanna make it ilegal either cause the industry brings tons of money for the state in taxes.
Sam said it good, try first some other online jobs which are not so bashed as we are. If that does not work, do it and pursue your dreams and figure it out one day at a time. There are risks but it is better than regreting your whole life that you didn't try to pursue your dream and have "what ifs".

I did another form of sex work way before camming where I only showed my face from the mouth downwards in my photos and still managed to get recognised. I was very secretive about my work then, almost nobody knew. It caused me a hell of a lot of grief, as people talk. I wasn’t ok with people finding out so it was very distressing.

I really think that if you pursue a career in the adult industry that you have to be somewhat OK with sticking around with you for the rest of your life in some way or another.
If this is only a temporary venture for you, will it be worth the long term implications it could have on your medical career? I think it’s naive to think people won’t find out. Especially when a background check can easily be conducted, only for someone to find you’ve received payments from the adult industry.

If you’re ok with the risk then go ahead, but if you’re not really ok with it but naively thinking you could get away with it without it coming back to haunt you, you’re probably asking for trouble. If you’re not fully at peace with your decisions and the risks you’re taking, you could cause yourself a lot of paranoia and inner conflict. That’s just speaking from my experience.

I live a very different life now that I am 100% ok with what I do and the decisions I have made etc! There has been nothing more freeing than having total peace of mind in that way!

Jenna is absolutely right, there's always a chance it's going to come back to haunt you. Many years before I cammed I used to escort and a tabloid paper ran a story on me without my permission. It was largely complimentary but that's besides the point, over night I went from having my own private business to my whole family - grandparents, uncles, teenage siblings - knowing more than i ever wanted them to. Also, several years later i bumped into a previous client in a corporate set up. He was thankfully discreet.

I work in healthcare and would feel awk about one of my patients recognizing me. I think it would change the nature of our session and how they would interact with me and how receptive they'd be towards my treatment. My need for anonymity is why I'm more drawn to PSO than cam. If you're not going to share your face anyway you probably won't reach max earning potential--if you must do adult work I would stick to PSO with a content character. I'm not sure doing adult work would prevent you from getting a position as an MD however as we need more doctors--especially in areas like geriatrics vs pediatrics.

Holy crap, thanks to everyone that replied. I have looked at other forums pertaining to this topic, and almost everyone was rude and disrespectful to OP. It made me really sad and not hopeful for this world, especially the world of medicine.

I read every response, and honestly, I think I wont do it. I have thought about being a PSO however, and have thought about creating an online blog about sex education, relationships, beauty and fashion and getting it monetized. hopefully the plan will all go well. Pertaining to my previous machinations.. I have sent others nudes before, but never with my face in them. I've only ever had one nude picture of me with my face in it from a fake sugar daddy that threatened to blackmail me if I didn't send him money (I was hella more naive and dumb back then, also desperate) . Hopefully it wont spread once I'm a resident. I still love sex work and the liberating feelings that come with it, I also enjoy supporting my fellow sex workers , so I will always support you guys.

I'm sorry you had a bad experience elsewhere; I know just what you mean, people can be hostile AF. You'll get realness on SW, but I don't often see people being unnecessarily unkind. I'm going to echo much was said before, especially gbjenna's post, it's just a lot to risk and stress over, unless you're making more than a side income. I did just that in the past, and it wasn't worth it for me. Only became worth it when I treated it like a full-time job and stopped worrying about exposure.
Mind you, the idea of using stock photos for PSO is definitely a good shout, as you clearly have an interest in the industry. On Niteflirt you can also use the chat feature which, when you encourages tributes, can actually build up pretty quickly, especially alongside calls.

    Best of luck.

Donít do it! LOL camming is hard. Iím in nursing school, but I had to to this because I danced pre covid-never took pictures or posted on social media when I danced. Itís not worth losing your future career over
Focus more on what you want than on what you donít want

I don't know if you're in America or not. But if you're American...just do PSO work and call it a day. Also, don't use stock photos as some people suggest..use license content from content sites. You can find them on gfy.com marketplace.Camming would effect your medical and legal job prospects in America. Subscription sites like Onlyfans are slightly better but I wouldn't take that chance if I was in medical or law school.
