I think the waves of Covid are gonna be like the cold/flu in the winter months and be more normalish in the summertime. They will most likely have a medication for it soon instead of us having to keep getting vaccinated every 6 months.

I think they do have anti-viral meds effective against Covid.

My dad honestly roared with laughter when I told him my state is mostly populated with anti-vaxxer senior citizens. He's seen some things in his lifetime and to him...this Pandemic has been an epic thing to behold.

The morbid silver lining to this Pandemic is a lot of people are cashing on on inheritances sooner.

I for one am depressed that science denying is a leading trend of our times but....."it's a free country." Believe what you want to believe.

The senior citizens that are anti-vaxxers just boggle my mind. They are old enough to have lived through the devastation that polio caused and to have seen the victory of smallpox being wiped off the face of the earth. If they were all like that back then we would still have iron lungs, smallpox deaths and children walking around in braces with shrunken, polio-damaged limbs. I just don't get it.

    last smallpox case

I feel like we could be declaring victory over Covid too if this had been handled correctly.

This is kind of Covid related, I guess. Maybe I'm missing something, but can someone (who currently uses Uber) explain to me WHERE exactly I'm supposed to find this so-called "Get a free Uber ride to your vaccination appointment" offer? I'm logged in on the Uber app, and I don't see it anywhere on here. When I type the offer into a Google search, something comes up that makes me think maybe this free offer was just for NEW Uber customers (first time signups). And if that's the case, then they should've advertised it that way. I've had a very stressful day today that resulted in me having to pay out of pocket for prescription ear drops for my son, and now I'm left with fucking $14 on my card. And that is not enough money to get us to AND from his booster shot appointment this Sunday. His college is requiring this booster shot, and spring semester starts in a week.

^Nevermind. I see that the free offer ended July 4, 2021. *Sigh* Well that'd be nice if they weren't still advertising it as if it still applies. Even the Walgreens website (when you make the booster appointment) prompts you to reserve your free Uber ride.

COVID positivity rates are now declining around the country, including here in FL. Looks like Omicron is a flash-in-the-pan event, though one that hopefully makes the population much more resistant to future variants.

These links cover CA, NY, TX and FL, which together house over a third of the U.S. population. Positivity rates have peaked in all four states and are now declining sharply in 3 of the 4. They are still high, but many experts believe that Omicron has peaked.

I wish I had consolidated national numbers but for some reason the CDC is not publishing nationwide trend data, but I've read reports about other states (PA and NJ to name two) where a similar phenomenon is in play.

I understand your confusion though as these reports are not easy to find. Every reporter and talking head squealed for several days when COVID numbers jumped again, but I guess that falling positivity rates aren't as sensational.

I've been look at worldometer for state figures. Not all states provide their numbers every day, but I periodically check it to see if the numbers are going up or down.

Every person getting surgery done at the hospital is required to do a Covid test two days prior. I informed the surgery scheduler lady that I HAD Covid a few weeks ago, so she said I have to come in to do a PCR Covid test then (Doing that Monday morning). *Sigh* I believe she said if the test detects antibodies (and shows positive), that means I WON'T have to come back for that Feb. 23 pre-surgery Covid test. Then I can just come back Feb. 25 for my surgery. If the PCR test comes back negative, then yeah, I have to take another bus trip out there on Feb. 23 for that second Covid test. It's a pain in the ass, and I hope they can stick with that Feb. 25 surgery date, and not have to reschedule it AGAIN because this is ridiculous.

The week prior to surgery, I also have to make another trip there to have them do my bloodwork all over again.

^^ Geez, what a hassle! The hoops ppl have to jump through now...

I ordered my free covid tests. Hopefully they'll arrive soon.

All the Starbucks around here are either operating at reduced hours. Or they just have the drive-thru open. Too many employees getting sick and they don't have enough ppl to work.

This virus is going to cause businesses to close whether we have another formal lockdown or not.

WHO says: "The World Health Organization offered "plausible hope" for an end to the pandemic, saying that vaccinations and natural immunity through infection meant “stabilization and normalization.” The spread of the omicron variant has failed to disrupt society to the extent that prior COVID-19 variants did, offering hope that subsequent waves wouldn't require lockdowns or similar measures. Both WHO and Dr. Anthony Fauci, President Joe Biden’s top COVID adviser, encouraged continued vigilance, including increased levels of vaccination, to suppress transmission and new variants.

Fauci , the CDC and the latest numbers all have cases going DOWN. Way down. Despite some silly stuff from Aaron Rodgers and fake info from John Stockton about healthy athletes supposedly dropping like flies from getting vaccinated , getting the shots is still a good idea.

He believes he's entitled and that the rules don't apply to him, and he whines and complains like a karen.

Right, because we should never question or challenge "the rules." No doubt the rulers of Cuba, China, Venezuela, North Korea and a number of places would very much agree with you.

Though actually I'm not sure how you came to that conclusion in the first place. The NFL did not require 100% vaccination, but rather simply set team level vaccination requirements and harsher ramifications for teams that did not meet those thresholds as well as unvaccinated players. The team was aware that Rodgers was unvaccinated yet kept him on the roster and continued to play him.
