I don't know why you keep saying people who had covid have better immunity than people who were vaccinated. Covid has killed approximately 900,000 Americans. Why would anyone want to get immunity by catching covid, rather than getting vaccinated? According to the CDC, people who have had covid before and haven't been vaccinated are twice as likely to get it again as people who have had covid and were vaccinated. There is no reason not to get vaccinated, unless you have a medical condition where getting vaccinated could be harmful.
Eagle , if you don't like the latest from the CDC please take it up with them. That is what THEY said . AFTER other infectious disease experts and studies in other countries were saying it for quite some time.

We have discussed this. Most of us have had Covid. Most without knowing it because they had no or few or mild symptoms.

I am not and have not argued with you that vaccination is a GREAT idea. Most people hospitalized are unvaccinated. Vaccination protects against getting seriously ill. I have NEVER said otherwise. I think people should get vaccinated and have said so. Repeatedly. Now please stop trying to paint me as an anti-vaxxer when I am nothing of the sort.

And since Rick made it clear he was not calling you a dictator or equating you with same please put on your "Big Boy pants " and apologize for insulting him , me and our church.

No, that's what you said. I didn't see any links.

    Here's what the CDC said:

    https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019...nes/facts.html

MYTH: The natural immunity I get from being sick with COVID-19 is better than the immunity I get from COVID-19 vaccination.

COVID-19 vaccination causes a more predictable immune response than infection with the virus that causes COVID-19. Getting a COVID-19 vaccine gives most people a high level of protection against COVID-19 and can provide added protection for people who already had COVID-19. One study showed that, for people who already had COVID-19, those who do not get vaccinated after their recovery are more than 2 times as likely to get COVID-19 again than those who get fully vaccinated after their recovery.

All COVID-19 vaccines currently available in the United States are effective at preventing COVID-19. Getting sick with COVID-19 can offer some protection from future illness, sometimes called “natural immunity,” but the level of protection people get from having COVID-19 may vary depending on how mild or severe their illness was, the time since their infection, and their age.

Getting a COVID-19 vaccination is also a safer way to build protection than getting sick with COVID-19. COVID-19 vaccination helps protect you by creating an antibody response without you having to experience sickness. Getting vaccinated yourself may also protect people around you, particularly people at increased risk for severe illness from COVID-19. Getting sick with COVID-19 can cause severe illness or death, and we can’t reliably predict who will have mild or severe illness. If you get sick, you can spread COVID-19 to others. You can also continue to have long-term health issues after COVID-19 infection.

You don't know that. If it's true, then it proves your statement about the effectiveness of natural immunity is wrong, since large numbers of people continue to catch the virus.

I know you've said you're in favor of vaccines, but here's what you said in your last post:

Likewise, vaccination does nothing to stop or slow the spread of Covid. As we have posted ad nauseum , it only protects the recipient. And the CDC has FINALLY recognized that immunity from prior infection is superior to that created by the vaccine.

These are anti-vaxx talking points. Why did you say this?

I don't know his intent, but I found what he said offensive, and there's no basis for equating vaccine mandates with murderous dictatorships. Again, people were outraged when RFK Jr. publicly made similar statements.

Heart problems aren't solely caused by sugary snacks and fast food joints, and hospitals were never filled to capacity and turning people away because of patients with heart disease.

You don't speak for anyone but yourself. Most people do take the threat of covid seriously. It's true there is a certain percentage of people who aren't afraid of covid and aren't willing to take any precautions, and these are the people who are filling up hospitals and are dying in droves. Most people are sensible enough to at least get vaccinated. Over 80% of adults in the US are vaccinated. When I go shopping, most people in the store are wearing masks, even though it's not required.
Eagle, if you think I'm just speaking for myself then you've been obviously ignoring what's happening in state and local elections (including school boards) around the country. People are getting increasingly fed up, especially now that a vaccine is readily available. People are not wired to live in a state of emergency forever and more and more people are questioning why they must when they have already been vaccinated. In response most places have quietly done away with mandates and restrictions, even as Omicron numbers remain high. Also you must go shopping in a place with some hyper-risk averse people because around these parts masks are few and far between outside of medical offices and public transport.

As far as your comment about hospitals, whether a particular illness stresses hospitals is irrelevant. Once we use the potential for self-harm as an excuse to regulate personal behavior, we go down a very dark path.

I am sorry for posting facts that you don't like.

Your CDC link is out of date being from December 2021. The latest CDC report published January 19 , 2022 clearly said that natural immunity was 6 times stronger than vaccination against the DELTA variant. Dr. Benjamin Silk of the CDC said : " looking at the summer and fall of 2021when DELTA was dominant surviving a previous infection now provided greater protection against subsequent infection than vaccination ". The CDC study was echoed by the latest study from Johns Hopkins. Dr. Marty Makary evaluated the CDC data which he says shows that natural immunity was 2.8 times as effective in preventing hospitalization and 3.3 to 4.7 times more effective in preventing DETECTABLE Covid infection i.e. the presence of active virus. The Hopkins study looked at 295 UNVACCINATED people who previously had Covid. Antibodies were present in 99.9% of them up to nearly 2 years after infection. It also reduced the risk of infection with Omicron.

The CDC study focused on California and New York. Covid rates among the unvaccinated and previously infected was 29 times lower in California and 14.7 times lower in New York. The people with the MOST protection were previously infected and vaccinated . Their Covid rate was 32.5 times lower in Cali and 19.8 times lower in N.Y. Dr. Makary said that the CDC study confirmed more than 100 OTHER studies on natural immunity. The largest of these was from Israel which showed that natural immunity was 27 times as effective as vaccination in preventing SYMPTOMATIC illness.

Eagle - If you don't like the results of these studies please go to CDC.gov and hopkinsmedicine. org and take it up with them.

The latest Johns Hopkins study reported today , February 2, 2022 claims that the lockdowns and school closures had "little to no " effect on pandemic deaths in the U.S. , U.K. and Europe. Especially when compared to the social and economic costs of same. The authors claim that at most Covid mortality was reduced 0.2 %. Border closures reduced Covid mortality by 0.1 %. They claim that they looked at 19,590 global studies and whittled them down to the 24 with the most reliable methodology and broadest intake of data. Two cautionary notes : 1. this study was done by economists not medical scientists and 2. it has not yet been peer reviewed.

As for personal attacks jeopardizing an otherwise useful and informative thread it was not Rick and it wasn't me who injected abortion and pedophile priests into a discussion about Covid . I think I have previously posted that the Catholic Church's cover-up of pedophile priests caused me to be a recovering Catholic around 2000. I'll never forget the Monsignor of my parish asking me when I was coming back to mass. I said : " When I hear you condemn sexual abuse by your brother priests and more importantly the coverups by Cardinal Egan and other poobahs and honchos." He didn't afaik and I stayed away. I've been drifting back ever since Francis became Pope. I had no use for Benedict whatsoever and it turns out he covered up sexual scandals in Germany before he became Pope. I'm back to going to mass. Not as often as I used to but I go every now and then. And I started supporting Catholic Charities again especially Covenant House.

That said, it is apparent that Eagle honestly doesn't think he said anything out of line or that he was somehow justified. I read and re-read what Rick posted and there was no personal attack directed at Eagle. More's the pity . Even if he's not big enough to apologize I say to him : Peace be with you.

That's good. I think I'd read that Walgreens was giving out free masks too. I'm getting my Pfizer booster shot there on Sunday (Reserved my Uber ride, which I didn't even know you could do that far in advance!), so I'll see if this particular location has free masks that day.

I'm still waiting on those free Covid tests in the mail. I had bought two of them from Wegmans a while back ($9.99 each), and let my son have one of them when he went back to his college dorm.

I posted what was on the CDC site, and unlike you, I included a link. Whatever is on the CDC site represents their position. It does not matter what the revised date is. If their position were to change, they would update their site. According to the CDC, you're better off getting vaccinated than getting covid, and even if you've had covid, you should still get vaccinated. That is what is says on their website. Therefore that is their position. If their position were to change, they would change their website. It doesn't matter if their last revision to the page was made in December.

You also repeatedly denied Donald Trump is a racist. I do not trust your judgement at all on what is appropriate and what isn't.

The intent of this thread is to provide useful information on covid to the members of the forum, not to endlessly argue over politics or anti-vaxx talking points on natural immunity. It doesn't matter whether or not you've had covid before. The CDC recommends getting vaccinated. If you didn't have covid, the CDC recommends getting vaccinated, rather than getting covid to acquire immunity. This is common sense. Approximately 900,000 Americans have died from covid. Why would anyone rather get immunity by catching a deadly virus rather than get a vaccine that is safe and effective?

Since you seem to want to keep arguing and baiting people, I'm not going to read any more of your posts in this discussion.

    Point taken.

Everyone is free to go to the sites I mentioned and read the LATEST reports for themselves. Both have been widely reported in the media as well.

They really are! LOL. My grandmom had some sent here for me and my son, and I'd taken a pic of myself wearing one (And shared it to Facebook)...and I was laughing at how the thing is damn near bigger than my face.

While I was waiting for my clothes to dry at the laundromat yesterday, I went into Walgreens and went over to the table where they had the free masks. It was a limit of 3 per person, and they're white 3M N95 masks. You have to put one of the elastic straps right on top of your head, and the other elastic strap is resting along the back of your neck. Definitely a strange mask, IMO, compared to the KN95 mask that I'm used to just putting the straps around my ears. But hey, they were free, so I figured why not. When I go back to that Walgreens tomorrow for my Pfizer booster, I'll grab 3 more if they have any out again on that table.

The N95's are so different with the double strap plus they are super tight and it sucks if you're wearing makeup since it rubs off and they are bright white (Wish they would make them gray colored for reuse). They definitely take time to get used to (I got mine off of ebay a long time ago and lost it). Not sure if the mask has been changed.

Lockdowns Prevent Only .2% of COVID Deaths: Study

    https://www.webmd.com/lung/news/2022...d-deaths-study

Feb. 4, 2022 -- An analysis from Johns Hopkins University says lockdowns during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic did little to reduce the number of COVID-related deaths and should be “rejected out of hand as a pandemic policy instrument” because of their devastating effect on the economy and society.

Lockdowns in the United States and Europe reduced COVID-related deaths by only 0.2%, and shelter-in-placed orders reduced deaths by 2.9%, the study says.

    Told you so lol.

New York City is offering free home delivery of Covid antiviral pills, though supply is limited.

The pills, which require a prescription, are prioritized for those who test positive for the coronavirus and are at higher risk for severe illness.

I'm annoyed bc supposedly here in NYC they've lifted the mask mandate and yet this bakery was making me wear one the other day. Yet there are no signs saying I had to. I'm sick of wearing them since I'm triple vaxxed. If it's lifted they shouldn't be requiring us to wear one.

I'm tripled vaxxed too now (Got my Pfizer booster last Sunday), and this is gonna be it for me with all these shots. I'm also gonna talk to my doctor about me going off the Depo shot, because after my surgery next week I probably won't even need to be on it anymore anyway (I wasn't on it for sex purposes). The Depo shot causes bone loss, and as a result I have to keep buying Vitamin D3 (which I'm now going on like Day 3 or 4 without, because I forgot to buy some the other day while I was out).

Anyway...I don't like all these hormones in my system. And lately it feels like my blood pressure is raised, my hot flashes are more frequent, and I've been having headaches and nausea. I'm over it all. I want to be done with all these shots and swallowing pills. The only thing I wanna be left with is just having to take my Zyrtec allergy medicine once a day, and that's it.
