    Default Is this legal??

My best friend signed up for some movie extras thingy a while back- it was online with a casting company where you put your profile up and execs or whoever can go through it. Anyways, she got a call a few days ago from this man who is opening up a private gentlemen's club. It isnt a strip bar- it's a kick back club for men, with a "massage" area, and drinks are served. The dude asked my friend if she was interested in serving drinks and flirting with old men. She's only 18.... is this legal? I'm definitely no prude, I'd do it in a minute if it was offered to me, I just don't want her to get in trouble. This is in California.... just letting you know because i know it has to do with state laws...

Sounds fishy...depends on what is going on in the "massage" area...would need more details in order to know if its legal or not

Well I'm assuming that the massage has a happy ending. But they didn't ask her to do that. Just serve drinks. I thought that one had to be at least 21 to serve alcohol...

You only have to be 18 to serve alcohol.

Sounds like a hostess club. From how you described it, it sounds legal. I once knew a hostess, but I never talked with her about work. Sorry, I can't offer more.
We all imagine ourselves the agents of our destiny, capable of determining our own fate. But have we truly any choice in when we rise, or when we fall, or does a force larger than ourselves bid us our direction. Is it evolution that takes us by the hand, does Science point our way, or is it God who intervenes keeping us safe.

So much struggle for meaning, for purpose. And in the end, we find it only in each other. Our shared experience of the fantastic. And the mundane. The simple human need to find a kindred, to connect. And to know in our hearts... that we are not alone.

Thats not a club where they serve Hostess Twinkies and Devil Dogs, is it?

    Personally, I prefer Ho Hos.

I've heard of hostess clubs in California. Even had some customers tell me about how they prefer those to regular strip clubs. These guys never want dances, just to hang out with a pretty girl, talk and have a good time - and they tip well for the time. Could be totally on the up and up.

I agree that this probably IS on the up and up. After all, if this was simply an overgrown massage parlor the owner would not be going to the trouble of researching the appearance of his staff through casting companies.

Actually, this sounds very much like the "hostess clubs" which are somewhat common in Europe. These "hostess clubs" employ only the best of the best looking girls to provide time & company plus classy entertainment for upscale customers. This might also be a clever businessman's attempt to get around the (watered down) L.A. anti-dance club ordinance.

If she is only 18 and the club serves alcohol I don't think that it would be legal for her to work there. I agree with Melonie that it sounds like a great idea to get around the stupid CA strip club laws. I wonder if they would have specific rules on payment for amount of time spent with a hostess. I also think that she might be in for a pretty big shock when it comes to having a bunch of old men hitting on her. I would assume that these older men would probably want more than conversation with an 18 year old girl. Yes, I said girl because an 18 year old is still a teenager even though she is old enough to vote or go to war.
Doing lap dances is a great way for all women and teenage girls to keep a mental distance from these guys. Personally I think that a hostess bar could be more of a rough environment than a lap dance club.
I do admire the guy for trying to get around those dumb strip club laws though.
